As much as we all love large, plastic and shiny toys I was overwhelmed during the holidays at the amount of large, shiny and plastic toys there were in just about every single store I was in. They have their merits but at the same time I want to have some choice about the toys he plays with. Not only was I surprised by the very minimal collection of organic and wooden toys, what was available was often really, really expensive. I was so glad to find Dandelion Earth Friendly Goods and see their range of affordable and adorable products of earth friendly toys.

We received for review the Organic Cotton Sorter, the adorable baby Rhino and the toddler two pack of bowls and the toddler 8 pk of utensils. The organic cotton sorter has 6 sides; the bottom is solid, each of the four sides (two terry cloth, one is the softest velour and the 4th is canvas) has a cut out of a different shape which has coordinating blocks and the top side has a flap. The sorter comes with 4 blocks; a square that makes a crinkle sound, an oval that also makes a crinkly sound, a 5 sided plush that has a rattle sound when its shaken and the last shape is a triangle that squeaks and is the perfect size for his little hands. At 1 year old, my son shakes his sorter and enjoys pulling the blocks out but thus far hasn’t figured out that he is supposed to be learning to put each shape block into the sorters coordinating side. I am guessing that will come in the next little while, Mommy doesn’t like to brag but he is quite clever.

Dandelion Earth Friendly Goods has rattles and teethers, toys, plush,  table wear and totes. Their rattlers and teethers are subdivided into blankets, adorable animals (ducks, frogs etc). The developmental are divided into products that stack, sort and attach; perfect for the curious little minds and hands of small children. The plush line has two lines; the “Classic” and the “Believe”, the first features the Bear, Duck and Turtle in snuggly organic cotton. The Believe features the Rhino, the Polar Bear and the Elephant in big and little sizes; the mommy and baby.

We received the baby Rhino, it’s made of snuggly organic  terry cloth and canvas and it is amazingly cute! It’s bigger than I thought, and is quite soft and easily carried around by my son.

Although it looks and feels similar to conventional plastic the plates, bowls and utensils are made using bioplastic which comes primarily from corn. Yes, corn…Polylactic acid (PLA) requires significantly less fossil resources, and generates far fewer green house gases. Sounds like a good idea to me as every little bit helps our earth. The tableware from Dandelion should be hand washed only; do not microwave or put in the dishwasher. We use ours mostly everyday, I find the spoon is larger than our usual spoon which I found too small but I do have to careful not to overload the spoon as it holds more than a mouthful for my little guy. I like the spoons and have used it myself when the dishwasher is full. Our son is not using a fork yet but mommy has eaten a piece of his birthday cake with one and it picks up cake just fine.

A great company with heart and a conscious;Dandelion has recently donated the proceeds of its tote bag sales to the  American Red Cross’ Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

EarthLust is a My Wee View Fav of 2009!  Sure, there are lots of water bottles out there, but none are as pretty as the EarthLust I received for review earlier this year, you can read the review here.

This stainless steal bottle, keeps my water cool and has an attached caribbeaner that can hook onto the stroller so it is always close for a quick refreshing drink.  The bottle itself has the best drinking lip I have encountered in a drinking bottle.  I tend to have a hole in my lip, causing water to spill onto myself, with the EarthLust I rarely spill any water.  I know you are probably thinking – how can the lip on this bottle be  great?  Believe me, it’s a little different and it works perfectly.

Now, onto the part that I like th best – the style!  The EarthLust is just so stylish.  All the artsy creations have been done by Allison, the creator of Earthlust.  Allison and her husbands goal is to protect the world we live in.  Our landfills are filled with plastic bottles that will take forever to decompose.  With an adorable water bottle like the EarthLust, you will never want to buy another plastic bottle again.

EarthLust is a MWV Fav of 2009!

Giveaway: To Celebrate being a MWV Fav, one lucky MWV reader is going to receive a stainless steal water bottle of their choice.

Envirosax is one of My Wee View Favs of 2009.  These fancy reusable bags are an easy way to help the environment.  I find that when I use my Envirosax bag, I feel twice as good – I feel good about saving the environment 1 bag at a time, and I also feel really stylish. While others are using their generic black “Green” bags, I am using my  funky swirly Envirosax bag.  If you want an easy way to help the environment, use the Envirosax bags.  The bags are very easy to roll up, and if you want to get a few of them, they come in their own pouch which makes them even more easy to carry around.

Due to their stylish nature and saving the environment one bag at a time, Envirosax is a MWV Fav of 2009!

Before I had my daughter, shopping on-line was kind of a novel idea and because I like to make sure that what I am buying is good quality (i.e. I like to touch it), I really did not do it that often. Now, with my schedule short on time, internet shopping is a necessity. Like any shopping experience, it takes some time to figure out what your likes and dislikes, needs and wants are. For example, I like on-line companies to have an easy ordering process, clear photos and a write up about the products they carry. I also really like to have a full selection of items, so I do not have to flip around from site to site gathering what I want and going through the ordering process for as many purchases.

safe toys from Oompa

Oompa toys is the on-line baby store for safe children’s toys and baby gear. If you need anything at all for your children’s playroom (and beyond), Oompa is the place to visit. Be prepared to get engrossed when shopping at Oompa; I recommend setting aside a few hours to look around. Their site is set up so that you can shop by brand, by the age of the child, toy and gear category (which is then further subdivided for easier shopping), where the products are made (I LOVE this feature!) and you can even create a shopping wish list for yourself. Oompa makes gift giving very easy with its gift wrapping and sensible ordering process. In case you have questions about the safety of the toys Oompa carries, they provide full product disclosure and even will keep you up to date on the latest toy recalls and US toy standards. As extra bonuses, Oompa does not charge tax, they have a 30 days return policy and offer a rewards program.

safe kid's gear from Oompa - rug from HABA

Take for example the Petite Lemonade plush toy from Blabla I received for review from Oompa. Shown at left, this toy is perfect for small hands and my daughter loves his ears, as she is very into tags these days. Blabla’s dolls are hand knit by Peruvian artists and are made of soft cotton, making them a great sleeping companion for your little one. As you browse through Oompa’s site you will see that this is the kind of craftsmanship and imagination-provoking product you should expect to find from them.

When I began my quest to de-plastinize (I may have just created a new word here) my kitchen last year, I never thought that it would be a challenge, especially with all of the information safety around food and plastics. At the time, I began to collect a range of glass and stainless steel containers, all the while attempting to find the perfect safe food storage system. Try as I might, however, I had the hardest time figuring out what to do with my beloved sandwich bags and wraps.

Abeego Flats reusable food storage

I spend a lot of time preparing food, especially around the holidays when I am up to my eyeballs with the seemingly millions of Christmas cookies I bake. This year, my Christmas preparations gave me ample opportunity to check out the Abeego Flats Reusable Food Storage Wraps and Abeego Snack reusable Storage I received for review from Better Baby Bums. Made of cotton and hemp, these reusables have been treated with beeswax to seal in any moisture in your food. This also means that the beeswax coating makes the surface tacky, so the wrap or snack pack seals when pressed against itself or another surface (like a bowl). The Abeego products are Canadian made and the flats come in a set of three (six, nine and twelve inch square); the snack pack seals by way of a string closure. In order to best preserve the Abeego products, you must make sure they never heat up (wash them in cold water, no using them in the oven or microwave and do not put hot food in them). The Abeego products held up great with repeated use and washed very easily with even my messiest cookie recipes.

Abeego Reusable Snack Packs

As their name suggests, Better Baby Bums deal with more than just reusable food wraps; they specialize in finding safe, healthy and practical products for baby’s bum (and beyond). Better Baby Bums carries a full line of baby gear that includes training pants, diapers, wipes, bottles, sippy cups, teethers, soothers, feeding accessories, insect protection, sun protection, skin care, laundry, baby carriers, toys and food advice. Better Baby Bums has added a resident Mommy Chef to offer up nutritional and feeding advice from pre-natal to post natal. The Mommy Chef takes questions from Better Baby Bums’ readers and answers them in a monthly format. Of course, you can also take the guesswork out of what to make for your children by purchasing cooking classes from the Mommy Chef on DVD (there are six classes and each class focuses on two recipes).

Better Baby Bums has recently expanded their business to cater to the US so stay tuned for more from them in the Future.
