My husband and I were ecstatic to find out we had finally done it, we were going to have a baby.  The anticipation of waiting 9 months was too much to bear, we could hardly wait to meet our new addition.  We wanted to prepare as much as we could and so decided to go to UC Baby to find out the gender.  Here in Nova Scotia, they wont tell you if you are having a boy or a girl at your regular 20 week ultra sound, and they don’t even give you a picture of the ultra sound.

Being pregnant was such an incredible time for my husband and I, that we wanted to capture and treasure the moments as much as we could.  We are so happy that we did decide to go to UC Baby.  Not only were we able to share the UC Baby experience between ourselves, but we were able to bring in 6 members of our family, and my husbands family watched over the Internet from Winnipeg.  Up to 4 email addresses can be added to watch the show happen live.  So, when we got the news that we were having a girl, everyone celebrated at the same time.  It was an incredible feeling to have everyone there, we all found out together.

Many people would say “Don’t you want to save the surprise for when the baby is born?”.  To that I say “My in laws would have missed that amazing experience and they got to share that experience with us now”.  Also, I did not want my baby wearing yellow, or have a yellow nursery.  Otherwise, my husband would have painted twice, once before the baby was born (yellow) and once after the baby was born (pink).

The staff at UC Baby were amazing.  As we waited for our turn to go into the ultrasound room, another couple had just completed their ultra sound and found out they were having a girl and were beaming from ear to ear. We were given a little form to fill out, and waited anxiously.  Finally, it was our turn.  The ultra sound tech was actually a nurse that has over 20 years of experience working with ultra sounds.  We felt very confident in her experience.  In less than 1 minute, she had the heartbeat and the sex already figured out.  She took almost 100 pictures of our baby girl.  She took pictures of everything.  Her face, legs, feet, hands, and the pictures look absolutely amazing.

I had seen other 3D ultra sound pictures before, but my mother and father could hardly believe the quality that the ultra sound produced. It’s not like those old ultra sound pictures when you can’t tell heads from tails. You can see a baby, you can see the ears, the nose, the eyes, even the tongue – everything.  We could watch in real time as the baby moved about and was opening and closing her mouth and swallowing the amniotic fluid.  It was like being right there with her.  It was so amazing to be able to show my husband what I was feeling living inside my tummy.  All the times before, I would say “feel the baby, she is moving so much.”  As soon as he would touch her, she would stop moving.  But now, he could see her moving about.

There was not a dry eye in the room, or over the Internet for that matter.  It was just the most amazing experience.  I would suggest everyone go to UC Baby, it is an experience you don’t want to miss.  If you don’t want to know the gender, they wont tell you.  You can just go to see your baby for 1/2 an hour moving about living in their little environment.

After the 1/2 hour session was complete, we headed back to the waiting room where the admin assistant walked us through all the pictures, like I said there were almost 100!  The CD of all the pictures was ours to keep, but they printed off 2 pictures right then and there so we could have something tangible in our hands to show people.  It’s instant gratification, no waiting for photos to develop, we had them in hand as we walked out the door.

If you do go, and the baby is not co-operating with the ultra sound tech, they will reschedule in for free.  You will get an extra session so they can get some good quality pictures of your little one.

Although the price may seem a little steep, there are a number of packages to choose from.  You can get a Teddy Bear with a recording of your babies heart beat, you can go just to find out the gender, you can get a package that allows you 2 different sessions.  Large or small budget, this is one experience you don’t want to miss.  Out of all the things I have done in my life, this experience is one of my very favourite ones!

If you would like to have this amazing experience, go to the UC Baby website to see which city is nearest you.  It is in 19 different cities across Canada.

You can also give a UC Baby package as a shower gift – you’ll be the coolest one at the party!

Giveaway is closed, but please write a review for My Pacifier.ca  in the comments if you have some!

My Pacifier was originally invented in Denmark when a Mom would pick up her son form Day Care and he would come home with a different pacifier.  Tamara Brancati from Barrie Ontario thought this was such a great idea, she brought them into Canada!  Thanks Tamara, as Canadians know, it’s very difficult to get some things here, and if we do get it shipped in, we have to pay large shipping fees and taxes and duty at the boarder.  Now, thanks to Tamara, we can get a great product right in our own Country.

When I first received the pacifiers (also known as sookies in our house) from MyPacifier.ca, I though, “Gee $20 for 3 sookies is a little expensive”. However, I have come the see the value in these personalized sookies while at a play date.

Just yesterday while I was at play date with 3 other Moms and babies, I realized between 4 babies there were only 2 different soothers. What are the chances of that? Well, if you go to any big box store to buy your soothers, you will see that there is actually a REALLY good chance of that happening! Luckily my baby girl had her sookie on a clip holder so hers did not get caught up in the mix, but the other boys had their sookies in and out of their mouths, on the floor and everywhere in between. This brought me to the “a-ha” moment! These personalized soothers are just for this reason. By the end of the play date the other mothers were saying, “Is this mine or yours?” Who knows if everyone went home with the soother they came with. I get the hebejeebies just thinking about the germs floating around there!

I can really see the value of spending a few extra dollars to ensure your baby ends up with their own soother. This is the whole reason My Pacifier™ was created! If there were that many matching soothers just during a play date with 4 kids, I can’t imagine what it must be like in day care! So these personalized soothers are definitely worthwhile especially while your child is in day care.

Since MyPacifier.ca is located in Canada, there are strict guidelines that need to be followed by Health Canada.  Many soothers have been recalled but My Pacifier™ which is in 10 countries has never had a recall. MyPacifier.ca also has BPA free soothers, which is very important to us parents, we want to make sure we are protecting our children!

The neat thing about these soothers is that you can put whatever you want on them. In talking to some friends about these soothers, Dads were particularly excited about being able to make a little mini billboard with their babies soothers. You can put anything on the soother such as “Mute Button”, “Plug”, or even a sports team. It’s not restricted to just putting the babies name! You can make a statement through your baby. Also when you order these, you can pick the colour and type of nipple. It is a completely designer soother, so get your creative juices flowing.

If protecting your baby from others germs is a priority to you, you should invest in My Pacifier™ to ensure your baby always has their own soother! Even between your own children, it would be nice to know whose sookies is whose. Yes it’s important to share, but soothers are something that we should not be sharing, can you imagine sharing your toothbrush with someone? That makes me sick just thinking about it!

Tamara sent me 2 sookies, one that says Future Viewer and the other Future Reader.  I tested these to see how sturdy they are.  I put them in boiling water to see if the personalized part would remain and sure enough, nothing scrapped off.  The sookie is very sturdy, the nipple fits well in my 5 1/2 months old mouth.

In my house, the sookie has been a life saver.  I am nursing my baby and many times, she just wants to “hang out” on the boob for no other reason than to hang out.  Once in a while that is fine, but after sometime, it can become very tiring.  The sookie has made my life and baby’s life a lot easier.

The service you will receive from Tamara Brancati is amazing.  She is very quick with shipping, once you order your pacifiers you will receive them within days. She is also quick with email if you have any questions – even on the weekends.  Make sure to continue supporting Canada and order a few personalized soothers, because you always want a back up!

Giveaway is closed, but please write a review for Snugs Boutique in the comments if you have some diapers from Snugs!

Snugs Boutique cloth diapers are made by a Work At Home Mom (WAHM) in BC. named Andrea Thompson.  Not only are her diapers amazing, Andrea is a very savvy, accommodating business woman.

The diapers that I am reviewing are the pocket style diapers.  There are many colours to choose from and 3 sizes, small, medium and large.  The plastic snaps allows for a great fit around the thighs and the waist.  No wrap is required for these diapers and there is no leaking.  I do have to put an extra insert overnight, but in the morning everything she is wearing is dry.  My 4 month old has even had some explosive poops in these diapers and nothing has come out the legs or the back.  My baby also has a very smooth beautiful bum, the polar fleece rests against her bottom all day and leaves no diaper rash at all.  The insert, which is “green” sucks up all the moisture!

Dad and Grandma can even use these diapers.  They are very easy to put on, just like the disposable kind.  I am the one that does all the washing and I put the inserts into the pocket so they are ready to go for anyone to use.  My mother has a hard time figuring out how to use other cloth diapers with the plastic wraps, but she put the Snugs on all by herself the first time.

The best part about these eco-friendly diapers is the cost.  Snugs are just a fraction of the price of other cloth diapers and shipping is also reasonable.

Another great thing about Snugs Boutique is Andrea.  I have talked back and forth with her a number of times. I purchased 10 pocket style diapers and between my order and the shipment dates, the price had been reduced.  I contacted Andrea to see if she would throw in another diaper to make up the difference, and she said “YES”.  This is a testament to the great customer service that Andrea provides to her customers.  She agreed to this BEFORE she knew that I would be making a review on her product.

If you are considering cloth diapering your baby, Snugs boutique is a cost effective alternative to those pricey cloth diapers, and they do the same thing.
