When I received My Ubby for review, my brother was visiting. Allergic to all things baby, I was taken off guard when he grabbed the newly unwrapped package and settled in on my sofa for a nap. And that I had to wrestle it back from him. That is the kind of effect My Ubby has had on all resident and visiting members of our household.

My Ubby refers to a custom made blanket, or as its Kansas based makers describe it: “a blanket-friend that will always be by your side. Soft and warm, ubbies can also be used as a tissue, super hero cape, or sun shade. An ubby will never run away but sometimes hides. An ubby never gets mad or complains. A true companion for life”.

The last sentence rings particularly true for us. I find that there are very few things that come into our lives these days we know from the outset will become a family heirloom. Our family values our family valuables, meaning we have many treasures that have been passed down from the generations. While many of them may not be worth much money, we hold them dear to our hearts and look forward to passing them along to my daughter when the time comes. With its monogrammed detailing and the love that goes into all of its cuddling, I am positive that My Ubby will forever live with Genevieve.

You can imagine how upset we were when, on day three, Genevieve spit up her lunch all over My Ubby. Having had lots of experience with strained carrot stains, I was fairly certain that our new keepsake had suffered its first battle scar. But I simply threw My Ubby in the washing machine, used cold water, tumble dried on low – and to our surprise the blanket came out as good as new.

I have been known to abandon a website that is not user friendly in pretty short order. In fact, I am sure I hold the world record for fastest abandonment of a non-user friendly site, even if I really want the item in question. To my relief, ordering My Ubby was a simple task, laid out in five clear steps. Each level of the ordering process guides you with clear instructions, prompting careful selections along the way. A tally of your order amount is kept in plain view while a picture appears to the right of the order screen, so you can have a visual of your finished ubby as it is being built. If you happen to change your mind about colour, fabric selection, monograms, stitching or graphics (or if you wish to play with their different selections), the program allows you to easily switch back and forth without making you lose your mind.

Our result was an original two sided ubby (one sided versions are also available), measuring in at 35 x 45 inches. The company also offers the Itty Bitty Ubby, which measures 15 x 15 inches. Our ubby has a cream sateen edging with butter cream coloured fabric. “Butter cream” is an apt description for our ubby, given how smooth, soft and yummy the microfiber plush is to touch.

Do you have something in your home that everyone wants?  Before I received the Slanket, everyone in my home wanted to sit on the rocker recliner, now everyone wants to sit on the rocker recliner with the Slanket.  What is a Slanket?  Well, it is a fleece blanket with sleeves.  Sounds simple, it is pretty simple, but it is so comfortable, and so warm.

Gary Clegg created the Slanket while in university.  How many times have you been all cuddled under a blanket and had to pull your arm out from under the warmth to change the channel with the remote?  Greg had had enough of that experience, and cut a hole in a sleeping bag to change the channels.  Thanks to his Mom, a prototype was created, and then it manifested into what it is today.

The Slanket comes in 12 different colours, we received one in a deep red.  The Slanket is extremely soft, a generous size and just so comfortable. The holes in the sleeves are very large so anyone’s arms can fit into it.  The Slanket is also long enough to cover  my neck way past my toes.  The upper portion around my chest gets all bunched up  because I do not have a long torso, but what’s what makes this blanket so versatile, one size fits all.  If a larger person were to wear the Slanket there would not be as much bunching.

I actually wear the Slanket 2 ways, the way it was intended with the blanket covering the front of my body, or like a bathrobe as well.  Sometimes I like the extra warmth around my back and wrap the front of the blanket around myself (it’s big enough to do this).  Either way, it’s great to be able to have my hands free while still being all wrapped up and comfy cosy while changing the channel to the tv, or blogging!  Yes, I can wear the Slanket while typing on my laptop.  The sleeves are a little long, but once I get my hands in the right spot, they stay in place, and I am free to type away on my laptop keeping my body, and arms toasty warm.

My mother and husband both like the Slanket as well, and it fits both of them too.  My suggestion would be to get a few Slanket because if it’s anything like my house, everyone will want to use it.  This is even in the spring season, I can only imagine what it’s going to be like in the winter when it’s actually cold out. The Slanket also comes in children sizes as well.

A few weeks ago I introduced all of you to a very creative jewelry designer Colleen Ash.  A few years ago, after Colleen’s son was born, she transferred some of her creativity from jewelry making to wee ones.  She has started  to make bibs, booties and taggie blankies for babies.  Colleen has been more than a pleasure to do business with and she has just created a new children’s line called This Little Piggy.

Colleen sent me a few things from This Little Piggy to try out.  The first is a taggie blankie.  The blanket has about 16 different lengths and thickness of tags for babies to suck and chew on (great for my teething toddler).  The blanket is also made with a super soft fleece on one side and a cotton on the other so the fabric feels nice on tiny hands.  This Little Piggy also included some little teething rings on the taggies, I thought this was a marvelous idea, it gives Genevieve one extra thing to bite on.

I also received a bib from This Little Piggy, the bib is hand made, and had a thick terry cloth on one side and a cute jelly bean pattern on the other side.  The bib is very absorbent, and has a very lengthy velcro tab so the bib can be quite small or rather large.  It will fit around every babies neck and double chin, big or small.  The bib is not super huge, and fits Genevieve’s chest area.  This is just a classic bib that any child can wear, and is easy to bring with you for an outing.

The last item that I received from This Little Piggy is a pair of booties.  This little booties were made from polar fleece (but there are other options as well). I’m not sure if any of you have worked with stripped material before, but it is so hard to get the pattern right, especially when you have to make 2 identical items. This Little Piggy has made the shoes identical even with the stripe pattern.  The shoes have a elastic around the heel so they stay on just as well as any other shoes do.  While sitting in her car seat, Genevieve can take them off herself (a new trick she learned with all her shoes), but while busy like jumping and crawling around the shoes stay on.

This Little Piggy is just starting out with children’s items and is on their way to a very successful line of handmade items.  The prices are very very fair and Colleen is just a pleasure to deal with!

I am so excited to tell you all about Sammy G*s.  Maybe it’s because Samantha Graff has been a pleasure to do business with and very easy to get along with.  Of course, her products are great too!  Samantha Graff is a succesful Real Estate agent by day (and night), but on the side, (where does she have the time) she has an online store that makes personalized items for children and parents alike!  The items at Sammy G*s are very posh. There is a lot of time and effort put into making each item personalized.

Samantha is very personable. I had the pleasure of getting to know her a bit by chatting over the telephone.   Her bubbly personality makes you want to get to know her, and makes you feel comfortable during a business transaction. Just a few short weeks after my first contact with Sammy G*s, I received my parcel in the mail.  I received a cute little package from Sammy G*s, that included my own little personal note from Sammy G*s herself.

The first item I received from Sammy G*s was a “Savvy” blanket by Sammy G*s.  While placing my order with Sammy G*s, I knew I had to try out this blanket.  It just looked and sounded so amazing.  I chose a pink blanket with my daughter’s name.  I was able to pick from 6 colors of velour and 16 thread colours for the personalized name.  I had first chosen the colour dark chocolate brown.  I talked to Samantha about it, and she suggested the Caramel brown instead, and guess what, she was right.  Caramel brown is the colour I was looking for.  Sammy G*s has a really user friendly ordering system.  There is no direct check out through the site, it’s simple to put your order in, and then add any comments you would like and Samantha will respond to your order before making any payment.  This is a great system, because if any of you are like me, I can change my mind a hundred times before I actually decide on something.  So, it was nice to talk to Samantha before settling on a design.

This ultra soft blanket is 35″ x 28″ and is made of  a velour fleece knit on top and cushy cream colour velour fur on the bottom.  This blanket is the softest thing you will ever lay your hands on.  I wish there was a word for super soft.  It feels amazing against my body and my daughter’s.  The generous size means this blanket can be used for just about everything.  We used it on holidays a lot, as a stroller cover, a jumping pad on the floor, a play mat, and at night for sleeping.  This blanket came around with us everywhere.

What people really notice about this blanket is the large personalized lettering on the right hand side corner – genevieves name, in all small letters (so cute) in a dark caramel brown.  The accent on top of her third “e” was even included.  This blanket really stands out! It’s rich and luxurious all in one.

This blanket is washable, and usable and will stand the test of time.  You will have this blanket for years to come and will be satisfied with the use you get out of it.  I use it every night to put my daughter to sleep with as it’s very warm.  She takes a little corner and puts its close to her cheeks when she is tired.  It’s so cute to see her with her Sammy G*s Savvy Blanket.

There is also a Savvy blanket for Adults as well -it’s called a Lux blanket and one side is suede.  If it’s as well made as this one, you will absolutely love it.  I use the Savvy blanket to curl up in whenever my daughter does not have it.  My Mother loves this blanket so much, she even wanted to be included in this review and says, “that blankie is one pretty blankie, that’s all I can tell you”.  In other words, there are no real words to express how wonderful this blankie really is.  But as a reviewer, I have done my best to tell you how great it is.  If you are looking for something as a gift, or something for your own child, this personalized blankie will be something that you will just love to give or love to have.

I also received a personalized set of My First Scrubs from Sammy G*s.  This is just the cutest outfit a baby can wear.  Sizes range from 12 months to 8 years, and come in blues, pinks and greens.  (not all colours are available in all sizes).  These scrubs are then personalized with your child’s name on it.  But, it’s not just their name, the word “dr” is put in front of the name.  Once again, all in lower case letter which keeps it looking very cute.

I chose the green scrubs with hot pink lettering.  Since my daughters name is 9 letters long (sorry Genevieve, I’m sure you will regret this when you are learning to spell it), I opted for something a little shorter since there is only a small space on the left hand side of the shirt for a name to be written.  Genevieve doesn’t really have a nickname yet, but I am trying to teach her some words.  The words are “mama” “papa/dada” “caca” (poor Cammy), and “bebe Gigi”.  I say these words to her probably 100 times a day, and I’m so excited to announce, just today she started saying “Da da da da da da da”. But,  I’m getting off topic!  So, I decided on having dr. gigi written on her scrubs.

This cute little outfit is perfect.  It’s so light weight – it was great for the warm weather down south, Genevieve’s body was covered from the sun, and the  light fabric meant  she would not over heat in the warm weather. Which makes it great for the up coming summer months. The bottoms were very easy to take off  and put back on.  There is an elastic band around the top of the pants, but there are also little strings sewn onto the front which makes it looks like the pants are kept on by a draw string – how cute is that?

This outfit gets a great reaction from people.  First they realize that it’s a doctor’s outfit, then they see that her name is on it, then they read the name and see that it’s actually dr. gigi.  It gets a great laugh every time, and people are quick to strike up a conversation about the cute outfit.

Although Genevieve is only 7 1/2 months right now, these 12 month old scrubs fit her quite well, and I suspect she will be just be able to wear them until the summer months are over.  So, if you have a 12 month old, I would suggest getting a larger size so your little one can get the most wear out of their scrubs.

The last item I received from Sammy G*s was a lion hand puppet.  Once again, it has been personalized, and I chose to have gigi written in hot pink letters.  This cute little lion never fails at making Genevieve laugh!  We used it for the recent photo shoot she had at Sears.  The photographer at Sears had a number of toys that just weren’t cutting it.  Genevieve was looking at the photographer like “You are crazy lady, and not funny at all”.  Thankfully, I had her lion in my diaper bag, and she just couldn’t resist!  She was smiling from ear to ear for the rest of the shoot.

My husband loves to play with her lion.  He pretends the lion is going to kiss her and she giggles and squeals!  It’s just so cute to see them playing together.  I think the lion gets tired of playing before she gets tired of the lion.  The lion is made out of a soft material that feels so nice on her face and hands.  Genevieve explores the soft material with her hands. It’s great to watch her explore.  The hair on the lion is also another material that she likes to touch and feel, but it does stick to her clammy hands a little.  So, I just have to make sure she doesn’t grab too hard and then bring the hair to her mouth! For only $15 this personalized lion will make any baby or child smile.  How impressed will they be to see their name on a special toy?
