I’m not overly protective with germs, but there are a few things that I will not touch in public.  Washroom doors, escalator railings, and especially bedspreads at hotels.  Another thing that I always knew carried a lot of germs, but really had no option but to touch is shopping cart handles.  There really is no option other than to push the shopping cart by the handle – so I would always make sure to wash my hands after a shopping trip.  Now that I have a little one, I am a little bit more protective with germy things than I used to be.  Thankfully, there is a solution to the super germy shopping cart handle, the cart cozy!

bamboobabygear2Bamboo Baby Gear specializes in bamboo cart cozies.  The shopping cart cover goes right over top of the seat area  and has 2 little holes for legs, and a safety clip as well so your child will not come out of the shopping cart.  I received a cart cozy from Bamboo Baby Gear in a super modern dots fabric on one side and a chocolate brown on the other.  The cart cozy has an elastic all the way around perimeter, so when pulled over the cart it stays in place and does not move around.  The holes for the legs were positioned at the perfect place from my daughters legs to go through and the best part is, the strap hooks around the front of your child, and then passes through the back side of the shopping cart, and the clips actually meet in the back so there is no chance of your child getting to them.  We all know how smart kids are these days so with the clip in the back, there is no chance of them getting their fingers to the clips to unhook the safety strap. The cart cozy also adds a little bit of padding on her bum too.

I love shopping with Genevieve in my Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy.  It makes me feel like a very responsible parent.  Shopping carts are one of the germiest things our hands will touch in a day.  Sure us adults can fight off the bacteria, but little babies aren’t as strong as we are.  When I see other children in shopping carts with drippy noses, drooly mouths and disgusting hands, I am so thankful that I have a cart cozy to keep Genevieve safe from all the grossness.  I also get a lot of compliments from people who admire the Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy.

The Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy also works in restaurant highchairs as well.  The elastic around the cozy allows for the cozy to fit over different sizes and different shaped items.  I’m sure highchairs in restaurants are just as full of germs as shopping carts.  The Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy folds down into a package, and the clip that keeps the child in the cart becomes the clip that keeps the cart cozy folded together.  It is a little bit large, but I just keep it in the car so it is ready any time we go shopping (which is almost everyday) or go to a restaurant.   There is also a little pocket in the front and a little attachment to clip toys onto. The Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy also comes in its own little bamboo handbag so it could be stored in there too.  It works out great because when I pull the cart cozy out of the bag to be used, I instantly have a reusable bag for shopping.

bamboobabygear1The Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy is made from Bamboo, it is a nice soft material, and has extra layers of bamboo and cotton inside as a lining.  Another great thing about Bamboo Baby Gear is that the items are all made here, in Canada!  Bamboo Baby Gear has some really fashionable materials that will make you and your little one look great while out and about.  I feel like a responsible and fashionable mom while shopping with Genevieve with my Bamboo Baby Gear cart cozy.

I am so impressed with how soft bamboo is, and how nice it feels on my skin. DreamSacks clothing and accessories are all made out the finest bamboo, which makes their clothing really comfortable, light weight and the best part of all – environmentally friendly.  DreamSacks has clothing for men, women, expecting mothers and children, bedding, towels, and  travel sets – which includes some really soft looking blankets and pillows.

dreamsacksI received a DreamSacks t-shirt in a light baby blue in a size medium.  This shirt is by far the softest shirt that I own.  It is very lightweight as well which is great for the summer months.  The t-shirt has the DreamSacks logo on the front and back, and I have to admit it not a shirt that I would wear out and about on a regular day.  However, this is the most comfortable shirt that I own, and I wear it around the house and bed almost every night.  It is way more comfortable than any jammie set I own.  I was also surprised that the shirt did not shrink in the wash.  It almost feels like I have nothing on when I wear my DreamSacks t-shirt.  I can not believe this is what bamboo can feel like.  It is just amazing.

dreamsacks2I also received a long sleeve shirt and pants for Genevieve.  The top and pants set are just as soft as the t-shirt I received.  I know how great I feel in my DreamSacks t-shirt so I can only imagine that Genevieve feels just as nice.  The shirt is a nice light baby pink, and the pants are a bright white.  Both are very very light weight.  I frequently put the long sleeve shirt and pants under some of her sleeveless dresses.  Because the clothing is so light I know that she wont be over heated – not even in the summer – that’s how light these items are.  The pants are size 12 months and have a bit of a stretch to them so they fit over her cloth diaper easily and are easy to take off and put back on.  Both items have been worn and washed a number of times and have not shrank in the wash.

dreamsacks3DreamSacks products are all made of bamboo, a renewable resource.  I don’t believe there is anything in the world that can regenerate as quickly as bamboo.  Buying items made from Bamboo is a very easy way to make a big impact on the environment.  I can tell you I was a bit hessitant to try clothing that was made from bamboo, but since I received the items from DreamSacks, I would be willing to buy and try any bamboo item.

DreamSacks has so many great items made from bamboo, they not only have clothing, but also have bibs, bedding, towels, and blankets.  DreamSacks also carries a full line maternity clothes – I can only imagine how wonderful these nice light clothes must feel in the middle of the summer at 8 months pregnant.

DreamSacks is currently having a grad and dad sale, so make sure check out the great sale prices.

Like many of us, Sharon Chai  is a mother that is concerned about the environment, especially for the generations to come, like our children.  Bamboo is a natural resource that is practical and not damaging to the environment or to humans.  Sharon had been using bamboo for many years, and has now decided to share some of her creations with the rest of us lucky parents.  So Bamboobino was created, and now the rest of us can enjoy Sharon’s great products.

Sharon is very particular about her products and where they come from,

The bamboo is all their products are Oeko-Tex 100 certified, and their bamboo and cotton are all OCIA & USDA-certified.  Their products are also made in Vancouver, Canada.  Bamboobino is living by these 3 “P” objectives : people, planet, and profit!

bamboobino12

I really like to see how serious and passionate Bamboobino is about the environment and people.  This makes me feel very confident in their products.  I received a super soft bamboo after bath hat from Bamboobino.  This cute little white hat, comes complete with a little panda bear on the front.  Which is inspired by Sharon’s daughter who sleeps on her tummy with her bum in the air!  I thought that was a very sweet touch by a loving mother.  It is always  nice to incorporate your own children in a business as much as possible, it brings a warm family friendly feeling and is a reminder to the owner why they have the products in the first place!

This cute after bath hat is the first thing I grab and put on my daughters head after a tub bath.  My daughter doesn’t have too much hair, but I am so paranoid about her getting cold, that I always make sure to dress her warm and get her dry right out of the tub.  Before the hat, I used to wipe her head with a towel, which is fine as well, but I really had to push down on her head and do some fast rubbing to get her hair dry.  With a soft spot on top of her head still I really had to be careful.  The after bath hat does all the work for me and I don’t have to worry about rubbing too hard or fast.  I can leave the hat on for about 1 minute and all her hair is dry.  That is how absorbent bamboo is.

I received a hat in size 6 – 12 months (it also comes in newborn – 6 months), my daughter is now 8 months, and the hat is still a little bit too big for her.  I have to roll up the brim, but the effect is still the same – her hair gets dry.  I would say this hat will probably fit her until she is 18 months or so. She is between the 25th and 50th percentile in head circumference, so please take this into consideration when making a purchase.  Even after washing the hat remained the same size. Although a little large, It still looks adorable on her.  The crisp white really does something fantastic against her olive coloured complexion.  bamboobino

I love that the products at Bamboobino are all white, it just has such a clean, fresh and pure look to it. Some other great products that they have are a Bamboo Hooded Enclosed Wrap for Baby, this looks great for a baby coming straight out of the tub.  They also carry bamboo washcloths, which if they are as absorbent and soft as the hat, they would feel really great over sensitive skin.

Happy Earth Day everyone!

We are finally beginning to realize that we are running out  of natural resources, and that not everything is renewable.  If we want this world to be here for our children and our children’s children, we really have to start taking care of the world that we live in.  Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows very quickly.  Some types of bamboo can grow up to 1 meter per day. Some have even said you can “watch it grow”, it grows so quickly.  I have to say a few years ago when I first heard about things being made of bamboo, I thought the items would be rough and itchy, kind of like a burlap sack.  It’s hard to believe that clothing and other material made out of bamboo which is a wood, can actually be very very soft, and be just as functional as cotton or terry cloth, but be even more absorbent. As a mom with a small child, I really appreciate any company that is working hard to keep this world a better place for my daughter.

Bamboosa makes all their products out of bamboo, they have items for babies, and moms and dads too.  They have clothing, cloths, towels, blankets, bibs, along with quite a few other products all made from bamboo!  I dealt with Mindy at Bamboosa, she was delightful to work with. Shortly after our first contact I received a beautiful package from Bamboosa.  The packaging from Bamboosa was top notch!  Everything was made from reuseable materials, the paper, ties, tags and inserts are made from recycled paper as well as the Bamboo tissue paper.  The ties are made from hemp!  I love detail, and I was very pleased to see the amount of effort that Bamboosa has put into their packaging.

The products at Bamboosa are just as good.  I received a cute pink bamboo bib with a little panda bear cub picture on it.  The bibs are 80% Viscose from Organic Bamboo and 20% recycled polyester (rPET) – recycled soda bottles- I have never heard of that before! The bottles are sorted, shredded, then melted and spun into fiber. The EPA and the FDA has tested recycled PET bottle material for any harmful effects with the conclusion that rPET is of “suitable purity for food-contact use”. Recycling organizations and manufacturers have embraced this technology as a positive use of recycled material and alternative to landfill disposal.  How cool is that?

bamboosa4The bib ties around the back so I can always get the perfect fit around my daughters double chin. The bib is a generous size and covers her chest very nicely. The most surprising part about this bib is how absorbent it is.  For a very lightweight piece of material, it can hold a lot of moisture. My daughter is a very messy eater, I think more food gets on her than in her mouth.  It’s really hard to get the spoon in the right place when her arms are flapping about.  It’s like an obstacle course for me to get food in her mouth. I have to dodge her hands then I have to try to get the spoon into her mouth which she is moving back and forth.  So, in some cases, I am surprised that any food makes it into her mouth at all.  So as you may have guessed, most of her food makes it onto her bib or highchair tray.  Because of this, I need a really nice thick bib that will catch all the missed food.  The bib from Bamboosa is so absorbent, none of the carrots, or peas leaked through onto her clothes.  I was interested to see how absorbent this bib really was, so I ran it under water.  After about 30 seconds of being placed under a running tap at high pressure, water did start to soak through to the other side.  The weird thing was that the water did not spread to other parts of the bib, it just remained where I had run the tap.

This bib is lightweight and very easy to bring around in a diaper bag as it folds up pretty small.  These Bamboosa bibs come in pink, white. blue and green. If you are looking for a very easy way to help with the environment, a bib made from bamboo is perfect, they are soft, absorbent and these ones are cute too.

bamboosa1

The other item I was sent from Bamboosa was some washcloths.  The washcloths are made from the same composition as the bib, so once again, they are bamboo and recycled polyester. Babies have extremely sensitive skin so the softness of these bamboo washcloths are great for them.  The cloths are absorbent so it makes it very easy to wash their little bodies with.  I especially like using these cloths for washing my daughters hair.  I can just fill the cloth with water and pass the cloth over her head.  This eliminates me from having to pour water over her head and potentially putting shampoo in her eyes.  I can get enough water from the washcloth to remove the soap after just a few squeezes.  I like these cloths as well.  They are very soft and fluffy, and feel great to use.  These great washcloths come in packages of 5, but I can promise you that you will want more as they are ultra soft!  There are adult sizes as well, but I find the baby size is fine for me.

If you would like to make this world a better place for your children.  Please invest in renewable resources and recycled materials!  Bamboosa has both of these in their products.  I love that they are socially responsible and are thinking about the future.

This is the first bamboo diaper I have ever used.  I had heard a lot of great things from other moms about Bamboo diapers, so I was very glad to be able to receive one for myself to try it out.

Upon first receiving the bamboo diaper from Malou at Super Duper Diapers, I noticed how thin it was, even including the insert.  How could something so thin keep my baby dry?  Sure enough, last night I put the diaper on my 4 month old, with only 1 insert. This morning I could not believe my eyes (or hands) my baby’s bottom and jammies were dry as can be.  Not even a little tiny bit of dampness, she was completely dry.  I specifically save this diaper to use it over night now.

The great thing about the diaper being thin, is that my baby can wear jeans and other bottoms without her bum looking super big.  In this diaper she can wear clothes her size 3 – 6 months.  In some other diapers, she is already in 9 month old pants!

Another thing I noticed when I first receive the diaper from Malou is the clever design and velcro so the diaper can fit babies as small as 8 pounds, but up to 32 pounds.  I didn’t see how this could be, but when Malou showed me herself how to use the diaper, I thought WOW this is genius, and it would fit a very small and a very big baby.

There are 3 different rows of velcro, the smallest size is simply putting the two velcro ends together, and folding the remainder over top.  For a Medium fit, put the velcro tabs along the 1st row of velcro and fold the remainder down.  For Large, put the velcro tabs on the top layer.  (In these pictures, I folded the extra faric behind so you can see the velcro)

When my husband first put the diaper on, he was a little confused, he thought the diaper was going to be way too big!  Once I showed him how small the diaper could get, he realized that our girl already had to be on the 1st row of velcro.  She is 14 pounds right now, we have to fold down the excess cloth over the top row of velcro, but this also acts as another layer to soak up the moisture.

This diaper does need a wrap over top.  It is not very much more work to put a wrap on top.  True cloth diapers can last longer than All In Ones (AIO) because when washed, there is no outer waterproof layer that slowly loses its ability to keep moisture in over time.  Also, when washed true cloth diapers do become cleaner as the water and soap can clean the diaper on both sides, where AIO have one side that is waterproof so water only cleans one side.

This diaper did shrink in the wash, I contacted Malou to see if this was normal, and she assured me it was.  The diaper still fits my little girl just fine (maybe even better around the legs now).  We have had no poop leaks out the sides or the back, everything stays inside!

Although the initial price of these diapers seems steep, you would only need to make one investment for as many children as you have.  Most babies that are using cloth diaper potty train easier as well, so the 32 pound limit should be fine!

Bamboo makes for a great diaper and it is super soft on babies bum.  These diapers will be a great investment for you and for baby!

Contact Malou, in French or English to purchase these diapers.  You can purchase each one individually or you can order a package, with diapers, covers, swimmers and a wetbag.  A great way to save some money.  Also Shipping is free – you can’t beat that!
