Learning while Laughing

Isn’t it simply amazing to watch your children learn a new skill? As soon as they exit the womb, each and everyday they are learning; from crawling and eating all the way to algebra and calculus our babies become toddlers, tweens, teens and are continuously learning (hey, they are even teaching their parents new skills … such as patience).  With a spread of nearly 4.5 years between my two girls, it seems like our learning spectrum is from one side of the scale to the other.  The baby is just learning to crawl and first words (she finally says mama), while my oldest is in school learning her letters and how to spell.

The Laugh & Learn Toys have been a part of my kids lives since they were born, including the Interactive Storybook Rhymes, Stride to Ride Lion, and the Musical Towers, each of these toys teach the kids songs, colours, shapes, letters or other simple learning basics.  But… (and this is a BIG but people), there has never ever been a toy that both girls have enjoyed as much as the Laugh & Learn Crawl Around Car.  Yes, both girls absolutely adore this car (which makes me love it too).

Laugh and Learn Crawl around Car

The Laugh & Learn Crawl Around Car has thought of everything to entertain a wide age limit (my kids are 9 months & 5 years).  I couldn’t even get the car together before the kids jumped right in to play.  Once it was set up, I had to nearly peel the 5 year old away from the car for a few minutes so her younger sister could have an uninterrupted turn.  Eventually, the two were about to play together and Princess Teacher (5 year old), was helping her little sister with all the gadgets.  It truly was a beautiful sight.  One of those moments you just want to hang onto forever.  Thank goodness for cameras.

The car introduces baby to those “firsts” in learning: letters, numbers, colors, first words and signing.  It also helps with mobility (not that I’m encouraging it right at this moment).  While Princess Driver enjoyed pushing herself around the house, pushing buttons, singing songs, matching up the shapes to their containers, moving the “alphabet wipers” and just all around enjoying the car.  Each morning before school, she spends time in that car just playing around, either by herself or with her little sister.  Even with the age difference the Play & Learn Crawl Around Car targets their different interests and keep them entertained, together and alone.

Laugh & Learn Car

Learning can be difficult, but with the help of some clever and interactive toys, learning can be fun (the kind of fun when the kids don’t even realize they are learning), this is exactly what the Laugh & Learn Crawl Around Car introduces – simple, fun learning.  They think they are playing, I know they are learning.  Win/win for everyone.

This is my top Christmas pick for 2013 for any kid, or anyone with more than one kid, no matter the age spread. You will be thanking me!  I say, “you’re welcome”.

Finish Challenge

Finish logo

I try to throw everything into the dishwasher.  Literally, everything – if I could put the kids in there… well… maybe not, but I hate washing things by hand when I know I can get the maid to clean them (the maid is what I call the dishwasher).  My husband on the other hand is a bit smarter than I am (shhh.. let’s keep this a secret).  He knows there are just some things the maid can’t clean, and so he does it by hand in the sink.

I love a really good challenge, the healthy kind that makes you smile when it’s complete.  I love a really good challenge even more when it works out in my favour.  I was recently sent Finish Jet-Dry to test out on my dirty dishes. I wanted a good challenge to see how the maid would do with the dirtiest of dishes.

I figured left over spaghetti sauce  (cooked in the microwave) would be a good challenge, but when it was all dried up, I wasn’t happy.  The sauce just didn’t seem to be big, bad, and dirty enough, so I threw in some shredded cheese and stuck it in the microwave for a minute.  The crusty, burnt cheese was much more satisfying.  I was thinking to myself “Ha, try this Jet Dry”.  I even put my concoction in a perfectly see-through dish so I was sure to see any left over burnt cheese.

I added the Jet Dry to the Maid and it did it’s thing.

A few hours later, I opened the door and pulled out my glass plate.  To my surprise and pleasure the glass bowl was spotless – but not just spotless … completely spotless – no kidding.  Because the bowl was glass I could see through it perfectly and there was not a single spot of crusty cheese or pasta sauce anywhere.  I really was surprised, because this would typically be a bowl that hubster would have washed by hand.  I on the other hand would have put in the dishwasher and quite possibly thrown in the dishwasher over and over again until it eventually got clean.

Before and After Finish

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend more time cleaning than I have to and I know my husband feels the same.  So, anytime I can save him from standing in front of the sink cleaning a dish that just wont get clean, is a good thing.  Old habits die hard and I’m sure hubster will continue to wash some things by hand. I, however, will continue throwing everything into the dishwasher and will continue to smile when my dishes don’t have to be washed twice.

Hawaiian Tropic Reviews by You

hawaiian tropics logo

Today is the last day of summer (insert super pouty sad face here).  But if we get more days like today (it was hot people), then there’s no need to complain.  Just because summer is “over” doesn’t mean you don’t have to put sunscreen on, trust me… it’s a must.

Earlier this season, some quick readers were able to review Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration & After Sun, and here’s what you had to say:

Carolyn R. Collingwood, ON – Thank you for the free samples. My kids and I are loving them both. We love the smell of the after sun so much that I caught my youngest licking his arm. I think he thought it was melted ice cream!
My kids also don’t mind the sunscreen on them. Some brands feel thick and sticky, but Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration feels great.
Hoping for more sunny days
Sarah R. Victoria, BC – Thank you for the sample of sunscreen and after sun from Hawaiian Tropic. I love the smell the after sun, putting it on is like a drenching myself in a yummy pins colada – almost worth staying out in the sun a little too long. I know I will be buying this product again and again. And the sunscreen is great too. It goes on smoothly, without feeling too thick. I can’t wait for another sunny day to try both products again!
Kelly G. Hare Bay, NL –  Hawaiian tropic silk hydration SPF 30 sunscreen lotion felt great to apply, its non greasy formula was just what I would look for in a sun screen, (I hate the feel of greasy Sunscreen and lotions)  I loved how it felt on my skin, it dried fast, and  it smelled great!!  The fact that it was non greasy was something that makes me definitely want to purchase this product!!Hawaiian tropic silk hydration coconut papaya after sun moisturizer is also a great product, felt great to apply after a day in the sun, it was also non greasy and dried fast which is something I would definitely want in these types of products.  The scent of this product was a little stronger then I would like, I would prefer if it was a milder smell.

Rachelle T. Toronto, ON – Love Hawaiian Tropic’s Silk Hydration sunscreen lotion! Feels like lotion, not a greasy/sticky sunscreen like the ones I’m used to. Light coconut scent. Dries quick and non-tacky. Broad spectrum (UVA&B protection) and water-resistant. What is there not to like? I would definitely purchase this.

Really like Hawaiian Tropic’s Silk Hydration After Sun moisturizer. I wanted to sniff my skin all day; it smells so good! I tan really easily so don’t suffer from redness or burns, but on my skin it was refreshing and so I can imagine it being very soothing for sunburns.
Joanna C. Thorold, ON – I had heard a lot about the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30 Sunscreen lately and was pleased to be given a sample to try and review. The very first thing I noticed when using it for the first time was the pleasant smell it has. It does not smell like any sunscreen I had ever used before. What a great start. It went on easily and didn’t involve a lot of rubbing in order to get my skin to absorb it. It also did not feel greasy as most sunscreens tend to do. My 7 year old daughter gave it a try as well. She has very sensitive skin, particularly on her face and ended up with no issues when using the product. Other sunscreens have given her small rashes on her face before but not this one. We have spent a few hours outside while wearing the sunscreen and faired very well. I was quite pleased with the results. It certainly is something I would consider buying. After spending time outside we gave the new Silk Hydration After Sun Moisturizer as try. It was nice to find it had the same pleasant coconut smell as the sunscreen. It also went on nicely without a lot of rubbing and did not leave any greasy residue. Although I did like the lotion I just don’t know that it is something I would purchase. I just don’t find my skin dries out too much in the summer as I always wear lots of sunscreen and never get a burn. I do however see it as being a useful and soothing product on skin that got too much sun.My only suggestion for Hawaiian Tropic would be to make the Silk Hydration sunscreen available in a spray bottle form. My usual brand of sunscreen I purchase comes in a spray bottle which makes application so much easier, particularly when applying on an impatient child, as it does not need to be rubbed in. If this product could be made into a spray application with that same pleasant scent, I would switch to Hawaiian Tropic in a heartbeat, even if it meant paying a little extra for it.

Cheryl G. Richmond Hill, ON

I LOVE the new Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration lotion!

I used it with great hope that as a fair skinned person it would work for me. I first used it on both arms as I burn while driving the car with the sun coming in the window. IT WORKED! I then tried it on an outdoor outing on my arms, legs, face etc.

I love the LIGHT, NON-GREASY feel of the lotion on my skin. I did not feel like I had to rush and wash my hands after applying it to my body as I usually have to do after applying sunscreen. That is very important to me, I hate the feeling of being all greased up and feeling like all my pores are clogged….like a melting ice cream!

The scent is great, a light tone without being overpowering. Nothing to strong that would attract bugs.

Although I usually apply an SPF 45 and up< i found that this sample of Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30 did the trick. Much to my like, I DID NOT BURN!!!!! That is big for this light skinned freckled girl.

I also like the added option of using the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Moisturizer after I have been in the sun. I like the feel of the coolness on my skin. It left my skin soft and silky and I did not feel like I had been in the sun with my skin being dried up all day.

I feel protected, and I safe in using this product out in the sun!

I would definitely say this is a win win combo by Hawaiian Tropic! You have definitely hit the mark and provided the market with something new, unique and very effective! I love it and will continue to use it and buy it when I need to purchase sun lotion.

Really want to take this new lotion to the Caribbean with me!

Mary J. Brampton, ON – I was beyond excited when I was asked by My Wee View and Hawaiian Tropic to review two products. I had the opportunity to try the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydratation SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion and the new Silk Hydratation After Sun Moisturizer.

As I spend a lot of time outside, I always make sure to apply a sunscreen in the morning. I put Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydratation SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion to the test while gardening for few hours. It worked so great that I decided to put it to the ultimate test, a day at the beach!

hawaiian tropics

This is definitely a formula that protects longer and better compared to other sunscreens. I also really enjoyed the tropical fragrance and how my skin felt moisturized and non-greasy. The Silk Hydratation After Sun Moisturizer was such a treat after spending so much time under the sun. It is refreshing and soothing.

Both products are amazing and I highly recommend them!

 Nancy T. Keswick, ON

Packaging for Both
I love that I can see the colour of the product with the ‘hydrating ribbons’ visible through the container.  The hibiscus flower on the front makes me think Hawaii.
DELICOUS! The smell reminds me of sun filled vacations and the wonderful tropical smells!  We tried out this product at our local splash pad this past weekend.  My two girls and I met up with a friend and her two girls.  I told her I was testing out the product and the first thing she did was take off the cap and smell the product, then quickly got out her camera to take a picture of the sunscreen.  She’ll be buying this the next time she’s at the store – on scent alone!
After Sun
DELICIOUS again!! I can really smell the Papaya with an undertone of Coconut!
The product is light and goes on very easy (not too thick) with a refreshing feel to my skin after application.  There is no greasy feel or look once Hawaiian Silk Hydration Sunscreen is applied.  And again the scent is delicious!!  The only downfall is that this isn’t a waterproof sunscreen.  We did try it out at a splash pad so I made sure to reapply on both of my girls every 1.5 hours (we were there for 4 hours).  With how easy it goes on, it made for a quick reapplication and they didn’t have to miss out on any fun.
After Sun
The product is light and refreshing.  I’ve used after sun products that are mostly aloe and it leaves your skin with a tight sticky feel to it.  With the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Moisturizer there was a small sticky feeling however once the product had dried only a refreshing cool feeling was present.  No tightness at all!  And of course the smell left on your skin is delicious!
I missed a few spots on my back when applying and those were the only areas that got a bit too much sun.  The SPF30 was able to withstand the UVA/UVB rays in 36C (before humidity was factored in) weather.
After Sun
I applied the After Sun Moisturizer on my girls and I and the product really works well.  It leaves a cool refreshing feel to my skin.  My skin was soft and felt well hydrated even hours after application.
Overall I really liked both of these products and would definitely purchase them in the future.
Cassandra H. Calgary, AB – When I opened the sunscreen And smelt it , I thought it smelt wonderful, I applied it to my kids on a sunny day an it wasn’t to greasy to apply on and went on smoothly. Didn’t leave that much of a greasy feel on their skins, and not much resude, it seemed to work effectively as well. Kids didn’t get burnt. The after sun was also very wonderful I usually use aloe Vera lotion . So trying something else was a pleasure.I happened to have burnt my shoulders that weekend so this was perfect timing. It smelt great, went on smoothly. And the cool sensation was wonderful on my burn. I liked the cool sensation it was very pleasurable on my burns. After a couple applications of it on my burn it started to fell better. I think I’ll be buying this after care as well.
I am not sure of the prices but if its around the others ill be purchasing it. Good product and will be suggesting it to others. Especially the after sun one.

Lynsay F. Wallaceburg, ON –  Sunscreen is a must in our house being a red head and having a red head means we go through and try a lot of different brands of sunscreen. That being said i think his is the best one i have tried so far i love it, so smooth,  great smell and works well in water . The after sun lotion was excellent as well i love the cool feeling after it is applied.
Chantal D. Kingston, ON – I love summer and I love sitting out in the backyard reading a good book and taking walks in the summer . I try to be outside as much as I can in the summer so I use sunscreen and after sun lotion a lot. I hate that some are greasy and I am really picky when it comes to the scent .Over the years I have tried many different brands and I admit there aren’t many out there that I would even want to buy but I always loved Hawaiian Tropic so I was so excited to try the new Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen & After Sun . I am still in love with this brand. I love the smell and I love that it isn’t as greasy as some other brands i have tried . It moisturizes my skin which is always a good thing . It might be a little bit more expensive than some other brands but I think it is worth the price.Joy M. Kanata, ON – I love this product!  First of all, I am in love with the scent. I really enjoy lotions that have a pleasant smell, and this definitely does! That is my favourite thing about it!

My second favourite thing is the way it feels, and the way it absorbs so quickly. It doesn’t take a long time to rub in, and doesn’t make me feel greasy afterwards.

The third thing I love about them are that they look pretty J The ‘dual ribbons’ are so attractive, and especially the pretty colour of the after sun moisturizer.  A pretty bottle always entices me to use it!

I would definitely buy the sunscreen again. I am not sure if I would buy the after sun moisturizer (unless it was on sale, or I had a coupon!) This isn’t something I normally use, although it does feel great on sun-kissed skin!

Thanks for the chance to try our Hawaiian Tropic! It was fun to try something new, and I really enjoyed this product!!

Michelle D. Kitchner, ON –  We’ve had some sun peek through the clouds so I was able to give it a try. I’m very happy with the sunblock. I was outside for 3hrs that day and applied the sunblock once before going out. I tried the after sun lotion once I came in and washed up. It has a nice creamy feel. Smells great. I really like this product. My skin felt great. I could even see the difference in my skin. My skin looked youthful. I will definitely be purchasing more of these products for the days to come.

Thanks for giving me the chance to try it. Greatly Appreciated

Jenny M. Sarnia, ON – Thank you very much for sending me these samples! I loved them! The sunscreen goes on silky and smooth, not greasy like other brands. The after sun moisturizer leaves the skin feeling fresh and hydrated!

Judy C. Dashwood, ON – The Hawaiian Silk Hydration has a nice, light tropical scent that I really liked. It’s light, making it easy to apply. No more rubbing to get it to absorb, it does the job quickly and relatively cleanly. I was outside longer than planned and forgot to reapply it but I never burned so I love the fact that it has a longer wear time than a lot of the sunscreens out there. I also love the fact that it provides moisture and hydration to my skin. Even after a day in the sun my skin felt smooth and not dried out. Love that it is a relatively inexpensive sunscreen and one that actually works!

The Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Lotion is a great after sun skincare product. I have always use aloe vera but since trying this out I am going to swtich. I love the smell of it; it smells so good. I have not used it on a burn yet but it is nice to put on after a day in the sun and it left my skin feeling smooth and silky.

Haylie L. Edmonton, ON – Received these in the mail last week and had perfect opportunities to use them as we’ve been outside every day enjoying the beautiful sunny days. I apply the sunscreen lotion in the morning before leaving the house and the smell was amazing! I reapply later in the day and again smelled yummy lol. Get home and check myself out, no burn! I’ve applied the After sun moisturizer a few times after our days out, and I wasn’t too crazy about that. It felt sticky going on, though it smelled just as good as the sunscreen. It took several minutes for the stickiness feeling to go away but it made my skin nice and soft after half a day spent outside in continuous sun.

I’m definitely going to be looking at buying the sunscreen, not too sure about the after sun lotion.

There you have it!

Calling all Octonauts

The Octonauts have literally come out of nowhere and are a huge success.  These little sea saving creatures have easily become one of my daughters favourite shows, and I have to admit, I like them too!  They’re songs are catchy and they teach children (and sometimes adults) facts about sea creatures.  My daughter recently told me that male seahorses give birth to babies.  When I inquired as to where she learned this info, it was of course the The Octonauts. (D’uh Mom)

Fisher Price sent my daughter the Octonaut Octopad play set.  I don’t think I’ve seen her so excited to open up a toy as when this one arrived in the mail.  She knew exactly what it was and along with her friends, Barnacles, Kwazii (and her dad), they were off helping sea animals.  I think the most common phrase in our home was “Creature Report, Creature Report”.  The Octopad itself has many Octonaut phrases and sounds, creatures in need and a rescue kit to help save the animals in need.

The show is so “basic”, it’s really easy for kids to recreate episodes and make their own episodes up.  A creature is in need and it’s up to the Octonauts to save them.  It’s easily hours of fun and adorable listening to the kids play.  When I asked my own princess what she loved about the Octopod, she said “Saving animals”.  Maybe she will be a marine biologist or veterinarian when she grows up.

Jake and the Neverland pirates Tiki

Another really popular show in our home is Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  This Peter Pan spin off is really popular with both boys and girls. Fisher Price sent my little pirate the Jake and the Neverland pirates Tiki Hideout.  At a recent playdate, I noticed the boys gravitate to this ship.  While playing Jake and the Neverland Pirates is without a doubt a blast, it’s the magical “tiki” that is a star of this show.  It’s a small “wooden” cylinder barrel with a push button that rotates.  When this barrel is placed on different parts of the ship, doors open and “things happen”.  For example, Jake get hoisted up to the very top of the ship. This was by far the most favourite toy, even if it wasn’t hooked onto the ship.  The kids just loved having the little barrel in their hands and spinning it around.  It was so beloved, that the kids (ones that didn’t live here), wanted to take it home, and nearly refused to leave my house if it wasn’t going with them.  Let’s just say, they REALLY loved that toy.

Jake and the Neverland pirates Tiki

Overall, these are a few toys that the kids can use their imagination with, get creative and reenact some of their favourite shows.

Monsters U & Kinder

Monsters university and kinder

Earlier this summer my daughter and a few very special cousins went to the movie to see the hugely anticipated Disney film Monsters University.  At only 4, my daughter is completely clueless as to what movies are in theaters but the 12 & 8 year old girls were eagerly anticipating the movie.  After a night of treats and entertainment, I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or the adults.  We were all laughing. Disney always does things “right” and Monsters University is no exception.  Prequels (a movie made after the original that is before the original) are no easy task, but it shed light on the relationships of Randall, Mike and Sully … although I have to admit I really missed Boo (that adorable little girl in the original Monsters Inc.).

Monsters University Stickers

monsters university toys

I’m sure your kids are loving Monsters University too and now they can find their favourite Monster toys in Kinder Surprise.  I (and the kids) are really surprised with these toys.  It’s amazing what can be placed in a small egg and transformed into a toy the kids love.  Not only are there collectible toys like Mike, Sully and Squishy, there are also stickers and bag tags.  My daughter knew right away these toys were from the movie she had just watched a few weeks ago, and she was excited to share Kinder Eggs with everyone to see what toy they would open up.

As for the chocolate, I really want to make chocolate chunk monster cookies, but I can’t seem to bring myself to break open the eggs and steal the eggcitement from the kids.  Maybe if Kinder has a factory of broken chocolate morsels they could ship me, I wouldn’t feel as guilty.  I generally love the chocolate, but in the heat of the summer they can melt so make sure to keep them cool.

I anticipated that this movie may make Princess Scardy Cat a bit uneasy, but it didn’t at all.  It gave us lots of chances to talk about monsters not being real and that Mommy & Daddy are in the room next door if she is ever afraid of anything.  Lately, she’s been sleeping like a trooper and there’s been very few night time wake up calls. Amen!

And if you’re looking for ways to keep your own monster busy, sock monsters are easy to make and to keep the kidlets entertained, while making them with googly eyes, and then afterwards while playing.  Let their creativity flow.

Countdown ’till Tub Time

Tub time is one of my favourite times of the day.

We tried our best to have a routine for our first baby, Princess Crier.  Right after tub time, it was time for bed, and we couldn’t wait to get some reprieve from the bundle of crying we called baby.  Some days when she would wake up at quarter to something ridiculous in the morning the “count down till tub time” would be begin.  “Only 14 hours till tub time ” ugh, on those days, I didn’t think I’d make it through breakfast.  Tub time was usually set at 7pm, but I contemplated pushing it up by an hour or two (ok, sometimes I was wising for tub time 15 minutes after she woke up).  Tub time was my absolute favourite time of the day.

With Baby 2, I also anxiously wait for tub time, but there’s never a count down.  Baby 2 is a pleasant treat that is mostly always happy (as long as she’s fed and not sleep deprived). So, why do I love tub time so much with Baby 2?  Because SHE loves tub time.  She kicks, splashes, laughs and smiles the entire time she’s in the tub.  It’s such a joy to watch her enjoy herself.  We had to switch her from a baby tub to the big tub recently because she was making such a mess.  I spent more time cleaning up after tub time than actually cleaning her in the tub – there was something wrong with that picture.

To help with the transition to the normal tub, I like to put a hand towel in the bottom of the hard surface so baby isn’t slip sliding away or banging her head on the fiberglass.  I also put only about an inch or two of water in the bottom.  She does however still manage to make a bit of a mess, but the tall walls for the soaker tub catches most of it.  I think we all laugh just watching her having the time of her life in there – it’s a beautiful spectacle to watch.

Johnsons has recently launched a new Natural line of bath products which are paraben-free, dye-free and phthalate- free.   I’ve tested these out on the baby, and she giggles while I later her up and get in all those creases (especially the neck creases – there’s a whole meal that can hide under there sometimes).  The products were soft on her skin and just have a slight scent.  Since she is still nearly bald (at 7 months) I like to use the Johnsons Head-To-Toe.  It lathers up nicely and there’s no need to use a different soap for her body, when you’re this small “all in one” is the way to go.  The lotion is also silky smooth and I’ve used it on the baby and even my own body with no problems what-so-ever.

With every passing day, I’m amazed more and more at how different two children can be.  I myself also enjoy a nice tub, especially when it doesn’t involve the door being opened and closed the entire time, with a 4 year old audience.  So, I suppose in a way, I’m still counting down till tub time, so I can then get both kids asleep and then enjoy a few peaceful minutes to myself in a nice warm bath without someone screaming “Mommy, Mommy, I need to pee” “Mommy, what are you doing?” “Mommy, wipe my bum”.

The joys of motherhood – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Movie Date with a Turtle’s Tale 2

A Turtles Tale 2 DVD

This summer has been an absolute hit or miss.  The days have either been raining or above 30 °C.  Today was a rainy day and while Princess spent the morning at camp we had a play date lined up for the afternoon.  What to do with a few preschoolers stuck in a house for a few hours?  A movie date was at the top of my list.  The movie, A Turtle’s Tale 2: Sammy Escapes From Paradise arrived a few days ago and was just waiting for a review.

Here’s a Synopsis:

When Sammy & Ray find themselves trapped in The Tank, an underwater restaurant/aquarium, they must hatch a plan to escape and reunite with their grandkids Ricky & Ella.  But they’ll have to get past Big D and his dopey thugs first.  With the help of some unlikely friends, Sammy & Ray find that when you work together anything is possible!

I wanted to make a Turtle themed “party” (without going over board).  I printed a few turtle colouring pages and a few pictures of Sammy and also picked up a few turtle treats (turtle gummy candies for the kids and Turtle chocolates for the adults).  I noticed how much Princess has picked up the hosting gene from me.  She also wanted a tea party for her friends and served up chocolate milk in a tea pot and placed each cup on the turtle coasters I had printed off earlier.  (the printouts were just suppose to be decoration, but she made them into coasters – is she a genius or what?).

A Turtles Tale 2

So, myself and my little hostess were ready to put on the best Turtle party ever!  Once the guests arrived she rushed everyone upstairs where all the magic was to begin.  So, we put the movie on….

Have things ever not worked out just as you imagined?  I’m sure you know what I mean.  You have amazing ideas of how things are going to be so perfect, but they turn out completely different than your scenario?  I think this could have happened to Princess today.  She sat and watched the film, as her friends were busy playing with all her toys.  She kept on saying “Guys, let’s watch the turtle movie”, but they kept on playing kitchen just catching a glimpse of the film here are there.  So the movie played, and they watched out of the corner of their eyes.

Now normally, this would be a major disappointment (to me).  I would want the kids to sit in front of the TV, quietly watch the film, laugh at the silly jokes (the movie has some cute adult jokes too), eat their turtle themed treats and colour their printables and rave about how much they loved the movie, dream about turtles and beg their parents for a pet turtle in the morning.  Thankfully I was ok to get my rose coloured glasses dirty.

The main point, the kids had fun, lots of fun they may not have sat down to catch every single moment of the film, but they enjoyed each others company and played for hours afterwards.  It was an awesome playdate.  When I asked what they thought of the movie they said “It was good”.  I asked if it was scary and they said “No”.  It was a bit suspenseful in some places.

I learned a valuable lesson today.  You can’t force kids to have fun the way you see fun, if they are having fun (and everyone is safe and the couch isn’t in flames) then it’s all good.  Princess wasn’t disappointed at all, even though she set up an adorable little turtle themed party, she just went with the flow and can’t wait to see her friends again – BEST. PLAYDATE. EVER!

A Turtle’s Tale 2 – Sammy Escapes From Paradise comes out on DVD July 9th.
