Toddler Trunk

toddlertrunk logo2

My cousin had bought her husband a cute shirt, basically, it was a picture of a bum, with a hundred dollar bill sticking out of it.  The caption  said “My kids think I have money coming out of my …”!  You can’t really blame the kids, because let’s be honest here, children are expensive and we are always shelling out money for this, that and the other thing.

Before the internet existed, second hand stores and yard sales were the only places parents could shop to find deals, but it could mean hours spent going from place to place only to find nothing.  The internet has opened up the world of parenting, Moms and connecting in so many ways.  We can now shop, connect and get our questions answered all in the comfort of our own home (and even in our jammies if we please).

Toddler Trunk is an online parent community with saving parents money and sanity in mind.  The buy and sell website is specifically designed for parents to purchase or sell their gently used kids items.  They make it easy to get started selling and buying as you can log in with your Facebook or Twitter accounts.

What does your basement/garage/playroom look like? I don’t even want to show you mine, but there’s a huge spring cleaning in order.  If you have a few things to get off your hands or if you need to start filling up bedrooms, dressers and play areas because you have a little one on the way, Toddler Trunk can help.

Toddler Trunk also offers a very special “ruby” program.  Items can be given away in exchange for rubies.  Each Ruby is worth $10 and you get 5 rubies just for signing up, 2 rubies for adding an item for sale.  Rubies can be used in exchange to get the things you need!

Toddler Trunk is available in 21 cities across Canada including:

Alberta:

Build Your Perfect Nursery – Get 15% Back

sears babys room logo

Before my first baby was born, I spent hours (and hours and tooo many hours) surfing the net for that perfect nursery.  Eventually, we were able to turn my dream into reality and went for a pink, brown and white striped motif when we found out we were having a girl.  We used painters tape, a ruler and a chair railing to get everything just right!  I was incredibly proud of the beautiful room we created.  It was surprisingly easy once we got started!  We filled the room with a crib, dresser and rocking chair, it was the perfect little haven for my little angel that was growing bigger in my tummy each day.

With baby 2, my experience was a little bit different! First of all, I wasn’t expecting to become pregnant at all and had actually given away or thrown away all our baby gear.  Rather than getting a room ready early on I took on a new hobby!  I learned to crochet in September and was whipping up sweaters, booties, blankets, hats mitts – you name it, I was in full fledged nesting mode.  I should have probably been getting the baby’s room together. Thankfully, just before baby came we quickly painted the nursery, bought a new crib (and a van) and were ready for our new bundle of joy (the only thing missing? Curtains – which we still don’t have… oops!).

So what do you need for a nursery?  Crib, mattress, bedding, rocking chair, change table, dresser … chandelier (yes, we have one in Baby 2’s room)!  It’s a lot of stuff, and while babies themselves are tiny, their gear can come with a big price tag.  Sears currently has a baby  promo, if you purchase $250 worth of nursery gear (before tax), you get 15% back on a cash card which can be used for future purchases.  For example if you spend $1000 outfitting your perfect new room, you can have $150 to spend at a later date – bonus!  Purchases must be made between March 22 – April 3, and the gift card can be used from May 1 – May 31.

If I were to redo my nursery, I would get a white crib, and go all out with a theme.  I would get the complete full meal deal, rather than trying to piece things together.   My new favourite colour combo is pink and grey and I’m tempted to redo Baby 2’s room in the Emma and Jack theme pictured above – how cute is that?

What does your perfect nursery look like?

Celebrate & Save Coupons

Have you started Christmas shopping yet?  I’ve got a few things crossed off my list, but still have some special items to get for some very important people.  I’m a bit of a money saver, I like putting Pennines (which will soon be nickels) in my own pocket  before dishing them out to retailers.  I look online for deals, coupons and really love the weekly flyers to make sure I’m getting to best price out there.

Until December 31st, Fisher Price has some deals for you!  It’s Celebrate & Save time, $15 here and $10 there means extra money (to buy something for yourself or for someone else – of course).  Here are some deals you can’t go wrong with:

$10 off Jumperoo – I have one of these at home, well actually, it’s not in my home any more.  It’s been passed on to another family and then passed on to another family and then I think passed back to the first family that I passed it onto.  Needless to say, I think it’s been through 4 kids so far and will be on a 5th shortly!  You can’t get that kind of entertainment for only $89.  The Jumperoo with it’s lights, music and jumping action is a favourite for sure.  My daughter could spend hours having a blast in the Jumperoo and we have the adorable videos to enjoy now 4 years later.

$5 off Fantastic Gymnastic Dora – This is currently one of my daughters favourite toys to play with.  She’s had it for a few months and still pulls our Dora to do gymnastics.  She even uses a gym mat to do all of her gymnastic tricks.  She likes to be both Dora’s coach and a student copying Dora’s routine.  This toy is a huge hit in our home, although we have to watch where Princess Gymnast tries headstands and roundabouts.  Take advantage of the coupon, 5 bucks is 5 bucks.

The holiday season can be an expensive time of year.  Sure we like to spoil our kids (a little).  With coupons and discounts you can feel much better about yourself when your purchasing items for your loved ones.  Padding your pockets, but still making those that are special to you smile on the big day.

Check out Websaver.ca to check out all the Fisher Price coupons available until December 31st.

Sears The Baby Room – Everything Baby Sale

I could have never imagined I would become pregnant again.  I truly believed we would be a happy family of 3.  Well, surprise, surprise, here I am 6 1/2 months pregnant and despite being incredibly ill through most of it, I couldn’t be happier.  I also couldn’t have “picked” a better time to be pregnant with Princess # 2.

Last time I was pregnant it was early 2008.  We were through the roof to be pregnant (it “only” took 4 years,,,, like this time), and we were set on getting our house ready for our special arrival.  We did so much shopping – who know such a small person took up so much space in a house?  We spent a lot of time (and money) at Sears – who hasn’t?!?  This time around, I am incredibly fortunate to be a Sears The Baby’s Room Ambassador.  Sears has recently changed up their baby department and I will have a chance to check it out!  There are over 190 Sears Stores in Canada and only 22 ambassadors, so I feel incredibly lucky that both myself and the Halifax store have been selected for this opportunity.

Last week, I went into Sears to see first hand the changes sears has made to The Baby’s Room.  As I stepped off the escalator, my eyes lit up as I was greeted by the most adorable baby room, set up with a crib and a pink and brown decor – something I could picture in my home.  Being a Mom, we tend to lose our brain during this pregnancy stage, so physically seeing a bit of innovation, can easily give us ideas about what we can do in our own homes.  Yes, I need this innovation, with a 4 year old at home and a baby on the way, it goes without saying my brain is a “bit” mushy.  This is just one of 4 baby room displays laid out, there are other rooms with rocking chairs and change tables as well – something for everyone.

Other significant changes I noticed was the stroller section.  How many stores have you gone to where the strollers are physically tied down to the brick and mortar?  The Baby’s Room has a large wide aisle and all strollers can easily be moved around and tested out.

The car seats are also laid out by stages.  I know my fist time shopping for car seats I was a little overwhelmed as to what I needed when my bundle of “Never going to sleep the same again” came home.  It’s now laid out easily for expecting parents to make the right choices for the special day when their lives will never be the same.

I also had the chance to meet the store managers, Jim and Jennifer.  And over the next few months will have a chance to get to know them even better, as I visit the store regularly.

I was truly impressed with the chances made in the baby section at Sears.  It’s a huge improvement from how the store was laid out in the past.  Go check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.

Oh, and one last thing, before I forget (preggo brain, remember).  There’s a “Everything Baby Sale” on this week till October 25th, most items are 15% off and clothing is up to 40% off.

Enjoy!!
