The best part about the Holidays is the wonderful feeling that seems to enter in to my heart long before Christmas comes and stays into the New Year.  Many of those feelings are due to the warm comfy atmosphere that the Holidays tend to bring with them in the malls, at work, at restaurants and along the streets.  The mood usually includes lights of red and green, music, a nice warm drink of some sort, and of course good company.  To help bring that cozy feeling into your home Glade has introduced a Holiday Collection.

Christmas Gift Idea for Babies and Toddlers

Its been a long been a tradition in our family to give everyone a nickname, they usually are quite ridiculous and start quite earnestly. My son, at the tender age of 9 months has become “Hudson one sock”. As previously stated, quite ridiculous and quite earnest. I am sure all babies lose their socks, its just that he always seems to lose one…and its always the same foot. If I had a nickel for every time during the day I’ve put his socks back on him, I think I could take a years vacation. To be fair, its not just socks…its a few pairs of his shoes as well. I am delighted that he is so mobile and so eager to scoot around the floor, I just worry his little feet are going to be cold. Our place is more than warm but we like his toes to be cozy.

I received for review a pair of Baby Booties Soft Soled Slippers, a matching terry cloth backed bib and and beige fleece beanie from BePe Baby. While quite cute, I was a bit skeptical about slippers for a baby. Hudson can’t keep a pair of socks or shoes on so how can he keep on slippers? I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they did stay on as they are very snug. The slippers are made from a snugly fleece, with a slip resistant bottom (love this) and have an elastic across the front of the foot and around the back to secure on your baby’s foot. The fleece is really warm, great to keep baby’s toes warm while cruising around. We found they were so cozy they would have been too warm to sleep in the entire evening but they were just perfect for daytime.

The bib has a quilted cloth front and has a terry cloth back so its fully reversible. The bibs from BePe Baby are larger than average and we love this because our son often gets more on him than in him and this has saved several of his little shirts.

The bib has a velcro closure and fits snugly so no food gets in between his neck and the bib. One wouldn’t think this would happen often but my son has a knack for getting his food everywhere.

Christmas Gift Idea for Anyone Special

I have to admit, I have a lot of things on my plate, I work full time, I am a Mom to a busy 16 month old, I have a full time blog, and I am a wife too.  With all the extra things that seem to pop up in my life, I don’t have too much time to get creative – but lets be honest here, even if I did have time, I would never be able to create anything close to what I received from Memories Wow.

Scrapbooking is HUGE right now, and the end results for those that are good at it, is a priceless book of memories that you and your children will enjoy for a lifetime.  For those of us without the time or creativity, there is an opportunity to have a professional book of memories made for you by Memories Wow.

I received a book from Memories Wow for review, and honestly, this is by far the best personalized item I have received to date.  I have not been impressed by anything as much as I have been impressed by this book.

To have the book created, Mary, the creator of Memories Wow took pictures from our family’s personal website which has some of our favourite family photos.  That’s as hard as it was.  The website was already set up with over 100 pictures, and all I had to do was send Mary the link to our site and then wait.  Once the book was created, Mary sent me a sneak peek by email to get an idea of what the book was going to look like.   Once I saw the sneak peek, I was very excited to get the book in the mail.

The hardcover book is 12″ x 12″, and has 20 pages with 65 pictures of my daughter and our family.  The outside front cover is a picture of my daughter with her name on it.  Each page has a theme such as Christmas, Birthdays, and Halloween, and looks like a scrapbooking page (with all different themes as well).

This is something that I will treasure forever, the whole entire book is made just for us.  No two books will ever be a like.  This is so much better than having all our special photos in a photo album that you just flip through the pages from picture to picture.  When people look through the Memories Wow photo book, they really take the time to look at things and make comments about the cute pictures and the quality of the book itself.

This would be an excellent gift for newlyweds, new parents, grandparents, or whoever.  It was more than simple on my part (which I loved), and the end result is better than anything I could have even imagined or created on my own! Leave these type of projects for the professionals of Memories Wow.  Believe me, you will be MORE than impressed.

Christmas Gift Idea for Children 5 and up

I am a self proclaimed geek; while other kids were busy playing tag and red rover and all other sorts of physical activity, I was playing school. Yep, that was me;  anything involving books, maps and science was fascinating to me. Truthfully,  I still am a bit of a geek now, I still love learning, reading and asking questions! Its not that I am nosy, I am just really interested in so many things in this world around us.   I have a book in every room in my home that I am part way through and I love to learn new things; to create and “do” things captivates my interest. In my 30 odd years, I have learned that I love books for entertainment as well as information, however,  I learn by doing.  Anything that is ‘hands on’ is rated high on my list of fun and it’s a bonus if its an educational activity and I can learn something new.

The Magic School Bus is an award winning book series based around Ms. Fizzle and her ordinary school bus that transforms into a flying bus during any of their exciting field trips. In the series, the bus has become a space ship, a weather machine, submarine etc and is filled with exciting learning adventures for kids. Ideally suited for kids ages 5 and up, the Going Green kit is one of the many available by the Young Scientist club. The  mission of the Young Scientist Club  is to “offer children quality, science related products that will fascinate them with the wonders of scientific discovery and spark their interest in future scientific discoveries”.

The Going Green kit is an exciting way to spend hours of creating and learning about our environment by teaching kids about the 3 R’s; reducing, re-using and recycling. This is a great opportunity to discuss larger issues such as global warming, pollution and endangered species with your children.

Christmas Gift Idea for Children ages newborn – 5 years, and Moms

One of my favourite items that I had a chance to review this year is Dilly Dally Bibbies, you can read the previous review here.  This is such a unique item that all children, big and small can wear for feeding and fun time.  The bib that I received still fits my daughter, and she is now 16 months.  It’s been going strong for 8 months, and has yet to fade, and keeps coming out of the wash looking brand new (and believe me, it gets thrown in the wash a lot).  I use this bib nearly everyday!

I especially love taking this bib out and about in public, it’s so stylish with its pink and brown hues.  The bib is also reversible, the other side has an ultra mod paisley pattern.  I can’t even express the amount of compliments I get on this bib.  Most people think that it is handmade by a loving grandparent, because it does not look like anything you can simply buy at a big box store.   Only someone that is really special would have such a wonderful beautiful bib.  The bib is made with a quilted fabric, which makes it ultra thick (which keeps my daughters clothing dry underneath), and ties in the back (which keeps it on my daughter).

Christmas Gift Idea for newborns – age 4

I recently went shopping to find a pair of winter boots for my 16 month old daughter that she can wear in the deep snow that we are expecting any time now.  I went to all the popular places, and I could not believe that there was not a pair of warm and tall winter boots that would with stand the snow.  So, my hunt brought me to the internet, and sure enough, I came across a boot company for babies and toddlers that will definitely keep my child’s feet warm and dry this winter.

Lisa, the mompreneur of Stonz Wear is an active mother, and she (probably much like you and I), came across the same problem when trying to find real winer boots for toddlers.  She took matters into her own hands, and created a pair of boots that are functional and look like a lot of fun too.

For review, Stonz Wear sent Genevieve a pair of booties in polka dot brown.  The Stonz Wear booties stay on better than any other pair of shoes/boots that she owns.  This is due to the 2 adjustable pull toggles along the top and middle of the boots.  She is unable to loosen the tabs and take her feet out, so she is forced to keep her boots on at all times, which is wonderful, especially when we are outside.  It also means that there is less of a chance to come home with only 1 boot (thank you Stonz Wear).

The neat thing about these booties is that they can be worn with or without shoes underneath.  Much like an man will wear a protective covering in the wintertime over his boots or shoes, the Stonz Wear can act as a covering over shoes or slippers.  The booties sizing is very generous, and your children should be able to spend at least 2 winters in the boots.  This year,  we are putting the Stonz Wear booties over a pair of slippers or shoes that Genevieve already owns, since they are a bit big.  Next year, she should be able to wear the boots without anything underneath.

Stonz Wear booties can also come with a sherpa-fleece liner which will keep your child’s feet even warmer (bought separately), although the boot itself is lined with fleece they do keep my daughter feet very warm without the liners.  The outer portion of the boots are made with nylon, so they can be easily be thrown into the wash and cleaned (which is a bonus).  The bottom of the booties are soft (no real “sole”) and made with a bumpy rubber which gives some really good traction for little ones learning to walk on slippery surfaces.  The boots are also super adorable with  the pink and brown dots, and the shape of the boots are very unique, so they stand out.

Christmas Gift Idea for Girls

Tutu’s aren’t just for ballet class anymore, younger and older girls are wearing them to the mall, parties and just out and about.  Why?!?  I think it’s because tutu’s make a girl feel good about themselves.  They are light, bright and just plain fun.  It’s amazing that at only 16 months old, my little girl can already have a Diva personality (I wanted to say attitude, but chose the word personality instead).  She may be young, but WOW is she ever feisty.  There is something about a feisty girl in a tutu that really puts a smile on my face.

We received a tutu from Little Diva Tutus for review in Bubble Gum pink for our little princess. The tutu came in a flat box, which kept all the material from getting too crinkled.  Once taken out of the box, I just combed through the layers of the tutu with my fingers to straighten and puff them out.  The tutu is made with 2 layers of pink tulle, and has a satin bow in the front.  I ordered a size for an 18 month old, but I believe Princess Diva will be able to wear this for a long time to come as the waist band is a very stretchy, thick elastic.  The tutu that I received from Little Diva Tutus is brand new to their line, and it included rhinestones on both sides of the tulle, so there is no right or wrong way to wear the tutu – makes getting dressed even easier.

I can see a change in attitude in our little princess when she is wearing her Little Diva Tutu.  She will run around on her tip toes, and just prance around like an angel.  In my eyes, she is just the most adorable thing, and with her tutu on, she can do no wrong (I am sure she knows this too).   The tutu looks fantastic with a long sleeve onesie, and tights or with a turtle neck and over a black pair of pants or just over regular everyday clothing.  I have even seen young girls at the mall wearing their tutus over jeans – just to be wearing a tutu, and they do look sweet.  The rhinestones have held on, and the tutu remains puffy and looking great.

It’s getting cold out there, finally in December we can say we are having a winter. As much as we love a good beach day, my husband and I both love the crisp air that the fall brings and I love the sound of the crunch of snow underneath my boots. Having a child has made us rethink all of our outdoor trips, when we take him out there is a whole list of items he needs and now that the colder weather is here we have a new list; hat, mittens, blankets, boots and of course his leg warmers. Leg warmers? For a baby?

Absolutely! We received for review a ridiculously cute pair of leg warmers in the funky avocado/brown stripe and the most snuggy chocolate brown onesie you can imagine from Nifty Knees. Let’s begin with the leg warmers, Nifty Knees has over 80 styles to choose from which are conveniently subdivided into categories according to style (pattern, stripe, argyle, seasonal, etc) so there is a little something for everyone. We use our leg warmers almost daily; inside and outside. They are perfect for putting on our little dude when he has only his onesie on. At 10 months he is crawling everywhere and because we cloth diaper we find it challenging to find pants to fit him properly so more often than not he has  just a onesie on. With the Nifty Knees leg warmers, he stays warm and doesn’t get any carpet burn on his tender little knees and  it’s so easy to do a bum change. No need to worry about taking off the pants, doing the bum change and then trying to put the pants back on, that’s a huge challenge in our household, he doesn’t sit still long enough. The leg warmers stay on really well, unlike his socks and they are so unbelievably cute. In addition to wearing them inside the house, we love them for keeping his legs warm when we go outside. The leg warmers  from Nifty Knees are great as  they cover that little space where the socks end and the pants start, especially when he is in his sling, there is about a two inch gap and that be quite chilly on his little legs. Not anymore, with the leg warmers, we don’t need to be constantly tugging at his pant legs to cover up his legs.

The second item we received for review from Nifty Knees is a chocolate brown long sleeved onesie with the words “Rock Star” on it. We ordered a size12-18months and its just a wee bit big as he is only 10 months but it will fit him perfectly in the coming months as I knew a 6-12 month would only fit another few weeks. If mommy is one thing, it’s practical. The Nifty Knees onesie is made form very thick 100% cotton and it’s really, really soft. I love that it is longer in the body, as I’ve mentioned we cloth diaper so we like clothes that are nice and long in the body so the snaps aren’t straining. We were so pleased with our onesie we wore it on our dude right away. The onesie has double stitching and it washes incredibly well, it’s really thick cotton and we love it. The decal is really cute and quite

honestly the website photos don’t show how really high quality his onesie is, you must feel it to know how amazingly soft it is. Christmas Gift Idea for babies, Infants, and New Parents

Prior to having children my thoughts on having a child were incredibly naive. I had absolutely no idea what it was like to carry a child, give birth to one and not a clue how about the amazing feelings behind loving one. Since having a child, I think I could fill a book with the things I didn’t know. Each and every day is a learning experience and I am amazed at all innovative products to make life with a wee one so much easier. When our little dude was younger it was simply a matter of have boob will travel. Nine months later as we are slowly getting our social life back I am in awe of how much effort it takes to go anywhere. We used to just grab a blanket, diaper and soother and off we go. It’s a little more challenging these days; we need to plan ahead and see that we have packed everything he’ll need for a particular outing. It’s amazing how much planning is required for every little trip we make as we want to make sure we have all his gear to make sure each outing is as fun and stress free as possible and our dude is safe and happy at all times.

We received for review the blue Snazzy Baby My Baby’s Deluxe Travel Chair from KidSafe Inc. Home of several innovative products to make life with a wee one a bit easier, Snazzy Baby began in 2003 with their first product, Snazzy Baby knee pads. Since then they has created several great products designed to keep your little ones safe while making everyday life just that much simplier. Amen to that! The Deluxe Travel Chair is designed to be used as a soft high chair for babies and toddlers that can turn a regular chair into one that can be used as a temporary restraint system. Perfect for travelling; take it with you to the in-laws or friends place for Sunday dinner! So much easier than trying to pack a big high chair. Another use for the Deluxe Travel Chair is in restaurants and grocery carts. As much as it pleases me to see many restaurants offering high chairs for babies I find they are often not as clean as I would like and the buckles are often damaged, its just as easy to bring my own.

Our favorite use is in the shopping cart. Our little guy is just about busting out of his bucket seat but he’s not big enough yet to go into the seat in the grocery cart wagon without some sort of restraint system.  My Baby’s Own Deluxe Travel Chair is the perfect solution; it’s incredibly light weight and we were able to put it together in a minute. All we needed to do was secure the back straps around the cart and use the 4 point harness system (2 around the waist and 2 over the shoulder) and off we went to get groceries. It was great because I was able to fit the adjustable straps perfectly to his body without the worry of him going lopsided and it so much easier than taking the entire stroller every time we go to the grocery store.

Christmas Gift Idea for Children and Adults

A few months ago, I brought you all a review of an amazingly stylish and functional umbrella from Cheeky Umbrella, you can read the review here.  Nova Scotia has put this this umbrella to the test this fall – we have had more rain and wind than imaginable.  Despite the relentlessness rainfalls and world winds, this umbrella keeps it’s form (has not yet turned inside out), keep me dry – and looking good – which is most important.

Cheeky Umbrella is back on My Wee View – this time with a little something for the kiddies.  The new Cheeky Umbrella line features the same cute sayings that will brighten anyones rainy day, but are just miniature - so they are even cuter.

For review, Cheeky Umbrella sent us the “Still Cute Kids” umbrella.  The saying is “rain or shine, I’m still cute”, and yes Genevieve certainly is.  This bright white umbrella with pink flowers, rainbows and bunnies also features reflective tape along the edges, which is an excellent safety feature, especially this time of the year when it gets dark very early in the evening.  The children’s umbrella has a manual button for opening – which is probably a very smart idea considering children would probably poke each other’s eyes out with the automatic release on the adult umbrella.  The tips are also well rounded and plastic to keep eyes safe.  The umbrella is made with a  light weight fiberglass to stay strong against both the harsh weather and the wrath of children.

Genevieve is only 16 months right now, and although she can hold the umbrella in her hands, she can’t quite get it to stay over her head, however, I figure in a few months she will get the hang of it.  Despite not being able to properly use the umbrella over her head, she uses it as a walking stick quite well, and looks adorable using it around the house.   The Cheeky Umbrella has stood up to her banging (despite wearing dresses she is not a dainty girl).

My family has been very pleased  by the products at Cheeky Umbrella, both the adult and child’s umbrella have surpassed any expectations that one could have for an umbrella.  Recently while out with co-workers, my umbrella was the topic of conversation (yet again), and everyone agreed that it was the best made umbrella they have seen.  They were amazed that it was double lined and not turning inside out with all the wind we were having – not to mention how good I looked in the pouring rain.  The Cheeky Umbrella is something that everyone will enjoy and be proud to wear on a dreadful day.
