Less Banking, More Good Times $2000 Giveaway

There are so many things I love to do with my free time, drink wine, lunch dates with friends, organize those pesky closets. With 2 kids at home and a never ending long list of errands, it’s not often that I’m really able to do any of those fun things (yes, I do enjoy organizing, it means time to myself). Oh, I also love vacations, I love the spa, I love going to the movies, I love shopping…. this list could be endless it seems.

The good people over at President’s Choice Financial® recognize that we have enough to do in our day and banking should be short, sweet and complete in no time flat. Who wants to spend their valuable time at a bank? “Not I”, I say. PC Financial® recently launched the Less Banking and More Good Times Contest. The contest is easy, simply visit the Facbook page and let them know what you would rather be doing other banking.

The best part? 40 people will win a prize valued at up to $2,000, to make their wishes a reality.

To be eligible, you have to have a President’s Choice Financial® MasterCard® or a PC Financial No Fee Bank Account. I have had both a chequing and savings account for nearly 10 years with PC Financial, and have yet to pay any fees. In fact, they even pay me interest for all my savings. ChaChing.

So, why don’t you start thinking about what you would rather be doing than banking? How about lounging by the pool with a Piña Colada? Or squishing your feet in white sand listening to waves crash? That would be the ultimate way for me to spend all my free, non-banking time.

While you’re thinking about it, make sure to enter for a chance to win and maybe your dream could become a reality. Contest Ends November 30th, so spend less time dreaming and more time entering.

Quiet Book

You may have noticed it’s been quiet around my little blog lately.  I was in Mexico for the beginning of November to celebrate our 10 year anniversary (post coming soon) and with only 1 month left of mat leave I’ve been sulking around the house and using my time to do all the things I need to get done before I start my regular Monday – Friday work week.  I also have been addicted to making these quiet books for the girls.

Warning, before you read on, these are time suckers.  They look amazing, are lots of fun, and easy to complete, but they take up all your free (and not free) time.  With both kids asleep by 7 every night (finally), I thought I would have more time to blog, but then I saw these quiet books on Pinterest and well, just like crochet, it’s taken up all my evenings.  I’m happy to say, they are finally complete.

Here’s a look at the finished projects:

Big Girl (5)

Quiet book

Pages include

  • Car Track
  • Lady Bug Snaps and zipper
  • Flower Buttons
  • Heart and button lace through
  • Heart Weave
  • Cupcake numbers
  • Ark Finger Puppets

For the Baby:

Quiet Book for baby

he pages include:

  • Car Track
  • Frog zipper and snaps
  • Farm puppets
  • Button Hearts
  • Mitten
  • Peek-a-boo owl and baby

I also have a page with different textured hearts, but must have forgotten to snap a photo.

These were all easy to make, they just took time… a lot of time.  It’s a lot of small little detailed work with felt and embroidery thread.    I also added Love Mom on the back cover, as you can see, it’s not straight, my handy work is far from perfect and I’m not creative, but I was still able to pull this off… it’s that easy.

I think these would make an amazing Christmas Gift for a child that you love very much.

So if you find yourself with countless of hours with nothing to do (’cause you know… that’s exactly how I was feeling?!?) then this is the perfect project for you.

Have fun.

Imaginext

There’s something special about watching a child play, learn and be creative.  As an adult I seem to have lost all my creativity and imagination.  While I may make a few things here and there, they are all very easy and don’t really use any of my own imagination.  This is why I love to see kids get creative because they truly have no filter when they creating and playing.

vacation

We like to travel to warm places, so when Princess Vacation is ready to pack her bags and use her imagination to go on a trip, I can be pretty sure her vacations include the beach.  She’ll pack a lunch, her bathing suit and of course you can’t forget the sunscreen when you’re on the beach.  I have to admit, I often dream about beach vacations as well, so I have very little problem playing this adventure, especially during the cold winter months.  I just wish her imagination could also come with the reality of warm weather.

Imaginext wants to help your kids to go on their next adventure with their amazing giveaway.  With the newly launched webisodes of Ed Venture and his friends you can follow along as they discover new worlds.

Monsters University DVD & Blu-Ray

MonstersUniversity3DBlurayComboArt

Monsters University is the Prequel to Monsters Inc.  It’snot very often a sequel is ever as good as the first and it’s even less often than prequel is even worth mentioning.  Last Spring Monsters U came out in Theaters and now, just in time for Christmas, it’s out on Blu-Ray & DVD.

The movie is set back a few years before Mike and Sulley are working in Monsters Inc.  They first meet in scare school and are ultimately both kicked out.  Mike is a hard studying student while Sulley is the son of a famous scarer and believes he will just float through school.  The enter a contest, known as the annual Scare Games, to get back into the scare program with a few unlikely friends in their “fraternity”.

The relationship between the two and Randall is exposed (as to why they dislike each other), and many aspects of the movie bridge to realization why things are the way they are in Monsters Inc.

I have watched this movie a few times with Princess Scarer.  We actually saw it in theaters last spring.  I usually like to screen these kinds of movies first as I wouldn’t want her to have nightmares.  But, since it was in theaters and a few family members were going I thought we would just enjoy the night out and I would sit close in case I had to cover her eyes.

There are a few scary parts to this movie.  The whole concept is that monsters come into kids rooms at night to make them scream to give the Monster World energy.  Aside from that there are monsters in the movie, some looks cute and cuddly, but a few monsters do look scary.  Fortunately, Princess wasn’t scared of the movie and she actually really enjoyed it.  She was exited to watch it over and over again once it came out on Blu-Ray & DVD.  I found the movie to be really funny, there were a few words I didn’t care for, but overall it was a decent show for the kids that even parents can enjoy.  I’m not sure if it’s as good as the original, but I would say it’s a very close second.  I would recommend this movie for kids a little older than preschool.

There are a few printables available on the Monsters University website, such as Student ID cards, Spot the Difference, and Pin the Tail on the Scare Pig.

#MexicanFiesta Twitter Party

Winter is on the way.  Each passing day the mornings and evenings are colder.  Have I ever mentioned how much I despise winter? I’m sure have have once or twice.  I actually try to spend as much time possible south during those freezing months.  Florida, Cuba, Dominican and Mexico are some of my favourite warm destinations.

I’m actually leaving for Mexico tomorrow for a week of fun in the sun.  I love everything about Mexico.  I studied there back in 2002 and fell in love with the people, the culture, history, food and of course the weather.  You may not be headed to Mexico this week, but you can join some of my  Twitter Friends for a #MexicanFiesta Twitter Party to help you get into the southern mood.
