Paula H. London, ON We have not had any good weather to justify the use of sunscreen, finally this past Saturday we were able to test it out! I was a bit disappointed to find that it does not have a scent, although some people prefer no scent, to me it’s part of the summer experience! Not to worry, I wasn’t about to let that get in the way!
This sunscreen is incredibly thick! It took me a bit of work to rub it in as my son is darker skinned but this also makes me feel that it’s got superb protection! This sunscreen repels water like no bodies business! Water beaded off my son like I hope the UVA/UVB rays did! I did notice a whitish haze on my son especially when he got wet. Not sure if that’s because I didn’t rub it in well enough but it is a thick product. We spent the entire day in the sun at the splash pad and I reapplied once. I noticed it was easier to rub in during the 2nd application
I can also attest to its claim of being year free and sting free as trying to apply it to a squirmy 23m old is quite tricky and he did rub his eye a bit when he had some on his hand but it didn’t bother him and he didn’t even cry when rubbed over his scratched elbow and knee from a fall a few weeks ago!! My son has got reactions from other brands of kids sunscreen and he had NO reaction to this one!! One thing I will caution is that it does stain clothes/towels so use with caution!
Would I recommend this product?
Absolutely! Although i will always choose an organic formula any day… It is more cost efficient then the other one we were using last season and no pimply reaction on my sons sensitive skin is all it takes to convince me!
Nancy T. Keswick, ON It’s been overcast & rainy here in Ontario and we haven’t had much of a chance to use it since we received it. We’re heading to Wonderland today & it’s a perfectly sunny day to try it out. I’ll send another email after today to let you know how I feel about the effectiveness of Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen.
Packaging – attractive packaging with ‘natural’ and SPF clearly indicated. Love the green colour – gives a first glance impression of a natural product.
Scent – light scent that is not overpowering. Smells fresh and clean with a very light scent remaining after application.
Feel – I love how thick the product is. I’ve used some sunscreens that don’t stay where you put them running down due to how thin the product is. Once applied there is no ‘greasy’ feel like some other sunscreens. It did take a long time for the product to absorb however the coverage on my girls & my skin was full coverage.
The real test will be my skin – not my girls. My husband is Armenian/Syrian and the girls have olive skin that doesn’t tend to burn – even without having a lot of sun, both girls already have a tan even with wearing sunscreen when we’re out. I on the other hand tend to burn if I’m not wearing sunscreen.
Francine F. Toronto, ON While the weather hasn’t been the most conducive to a review, I have been trying out this product. I really like it! I love that you don’t end up smelling like a tropical cocktail, and I love how thick it is – a little goes a long way. There’s also no greasy feeling like I have found with other sunscreens – it’ll be Banana Boat Natural Reflect for this house from now on!
Christy M. Oakville, ON It rubbed into the skin very easily and absorbed well. I do not usually purchase such a high SPF because in the past it felt like I may as well be using something as heavy as straight zinc! I loved that it was unscented, as we have bee/wasp allergies. Overall, I felt like I was using a daily moisturizer. Love it!
Laurie B. Ottawa, ON I was so excited to try the Banana Boat Natural Reflect for kids.We went out on a fairly sunny day to the park and prior to doing so we tried out the SPF 50 UVA/UVB protection. I am not a big fragrance person and there was surprisingly no smell. When applying, it rubbed in very nicely, and was not greasy like other water resistant products. The kids were out in the sun for over an hour and we came home with no sun burn. To my surprise, their skin was so soft, and my hands were as well. I love that it is tear free/ sting free. Great product, I will definitely be recommending this to my fellow parent friends.
Erin W. Surrey, BC I was really excited to be one of the lucky readers who got to review this sunscreen. My daughter is 16 months, so last summer she was too young for sunscreen. I had no idea where to start to find her one this year! My sunscreen came at the perfect time, as we have been enjoying some pretty awesome weather here in Vancouver. First, I love that it’s SPF 50 and PABA/Paraben free, 2 very important factors for me. It comes out nice and thick, which makes it really easy to see where it’s been applied to the child’s skin. My daughter loves playing with the hose in the backyard in nothing but a diaper, so sunscreen is a must. After using the sunscreen everyday for a week, my daughter’s skin isn’t at all pink, and is so smooth. There has been no irritation to her skin. All in all, I give Banana Boast Natural Reflect 5 stars, and I will definitely be buying more when I run out!
Ivy P. Seven Sisters Falls, MB First I have to thank you for giving me this opportunity to try this sun screen. I really like trying new products and this one is a new one for me.
I like the fact that it doesn’t have a strong smell, and that it has a SPF of 50! I applied some onto my
kids the other day and I have to say that I think I have found a sunscreen for them that I like and will be buying once
this bottle runs out. Another thing I like is that it’s tear-free/sting free. Nothing is worse than having my kids accidentally getting some into their eyes and having it burn. Overall I would give this product 4 stars out of 5, and would recommend this product to all my family and friends.
Gizele F. Moncton, NB It was really thick and if you put too much on at once it was a bit hard to soak in. Once it was all rubbed in it made your skin nice and moisturized. We went out a few times in the sun for about an hour at a time and did not burn. I really appreciated the fact that it did not have much of a scent. Thanks for the opportunity of letting us try it. It is a great sunscreen.
Narathip W. Abbotsford, BC First of all, I like that it is SPF 50. The more, the better to me. Living in Abbotsford, we don’t have a lot of sunshine. So when the weather is good outside, we will not be inside. I am worry about my daughter’s skin. I don’t want she to get burnt by playing in the sun. For SPF 50, I think it is great! What I like the most is, it is 100% Naturally sourced Sunscreen Ingredients plus it is as mild as water. (Only this, already win me.) When I put on her skin, I did not smell a lot of fragrant which I think it is good. Even though I love the smell of sunscreen but I think for kids’ skin, the less chemical, the better. After I submerge my daughter with the sunscreen, we had fun at playground in Mill Lake park. She did not get burnt and had a great time out there.
Angela M. Beaver Bank, NS Last week I was lucky enough to test out the Banana Boat natural reflect kids sunscreen. I tested it on my two children , who are 8 and 2 1/2 years old. The first thing I noticed was that there was no strong scents, actually there was so scent at all. It was very easy to apply , it absorbs quickly and leaves no oily, sticky residue behind. I loved this product and will be using and recommending it to family and friends.
Andrea A. Calgary, AB I was very excited to be chosen to receive a tube of Banana Boat Natural Reflect for free to test on my children (and myself). Its been beautiful and sunny most of the week, so we have put it to good use!! Because of my sensitive/allergic skin, and how fair I am, I have always used either baby or kids sunscreen on myself, so I used this not only on my youngest 3 sons (ages 3, 4 and 5) but on myself as well.
What I liked:
SPF 50. I know that after about SPF 30 they say that its just over kill, but being extremely fair/pale (actually pasty white) I like to use a really high SPF, and two of my son’s are also pasty white, and we all burn very easily, so in my view MORE SPF is better.
Unscented. This feature sells me. I am allergic to all perfumes and fragrances/scents, so to find a sunscreen that has no scent is an enormous selling feature for me.
After applying, our skin was non greasy, and I didn’t feel the urge to go and wash my hands like I do with regular sunscreen.
It works. After using the sunscreen, the boys and I have no signs of burns or redness. The kids normally burn QUICKLY, especially the backs of their necks and their ears, but currently they show no signs of redness at all. I’m impressed.
What I didn’t like:
The cream was thick and hard to rub in, and was similar to the diaper cream I use on my youngest. Obviously this is caused by the zinc. It went on really thick and white, and it took quite a bit of time (much more than using regular sunscreen) to get all the cream to rub into the kids skin, plus my own. So it was time consuming. Took me almost a full half hour to get all three kids and myself ready to get outside. The first day we used it, we ended up running 15 minutes late because of this. I adjusted our start time for getting ready on subsequent days.
The verdict: Would I buy this product? Absolutely. The texture will take some time to get used to, but I really liked that its more natural on our skin. I LOVE that there is no fragrance, and that it did not aggravate the kids eczema, and I did not break out in hives. But most of all, I loved that this week we didn’t get sunburned, not even a little, and I feel great about using something with less chemicals and additives on our skin compared to traditional sunscreens. Thank you so much for letting me try this out! I will definitely buy another tube when its time to buy more!
ShaRhonda C. The first thing I noticed about Banana Boat Natural Reflect Sunscreen Lotion for Kids was the smell. Not your typical “suncreen” smell. There is absolutely no odor. I use to think the only time you applied sunscreen was when at the pool/lake/beach. Wrong. Just playing/working out in our yard can result in a nice red tint to our skin. I don’t always want my kids smelling like a tropical island at home, especially in my house. Thanks for making a product that doesn’t smell. Love it!! Bonus, tear and sting free, and the coverage is amazing.
Annette S. Victoria, BC I Received this product today! so excited and hesitant to try it as a result of my 5 year old son having terrible rashes and hives from children’s coppertone sunscreen. So, once I received it… My son was already out in the sunshine playing… perfect timing!
The packaging of this product was very appealing, I love everything from the images and design, to the easy to use squeeze packaging… making it very easy to just squeeze it into your hand. As I put a quarter sized amount of sunscreen on my hand, I smelt it, and much to my surprise, it was nicely unscented and did not have that nasty sunscreen smell. That in itself was a selling point for me.
I began to lather it onto my 5 year son, he had previous problems with hives and sunscreen, no brand ever worked. I noticed that it went on a little bit thicker than other sunscreens I’ve tried, but it provided, amazing coverage. I felt like my son was properly protected and I was at ease once I sent him back outside in the sunshine. Better yet, after more than half a day and reapplying sunscreen every few hours… My son had NO rash!! this is such a great product, and I was happy knowing of its natural ingredients and 50 SPF was great! for long days playing in the sun!. This Sure gives mommy great peace of mind. I am very happy to say that I have found a new brand of sunscreen for my two children! So glad I got to try this product! thank you so much for the chance to review this!
Tara G. Burnaby, BC I received my product to review at the perfect time, we have had nothing but sun in the past few days and I have been on the fence about some sunscreens aimed towards children use. I was immediately impressed that Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen had SPF 50 protection when many natural kids sunscreens only go up to 30! Like a true Banana Boat fan the first test for me was the smell, I hate the smell of medicinal sunscreen and how it feels sticky on your skin once applied. I was impressed that while smoothing this over my 2 year old daughter’s skin it was thick enough to allow a nice layer but not so thick that I had to spend 5 minutes rubbing in each area. The smell was very pleasant and there was no sticky residue, in fact her skin felt softer after application.
We used a liberal amount on her face, avoiding her eyes and I liked that it was very water resistant and would not drip down into her eyes while playing at the water park. My daughter is very fair with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, we are always very careful about reapplying her sunscreen to ensure she doesn’t burn and we did the same with Banana Boat Natural Reflect, re-application was quick and easy and the coverage and protection was great! We spent 2 full days in the sun and she’s just as pale and protected as always. 🙂
Thank you for the great opportunity to test this product and to add it to our summer bag, this is definitely a keeper!
Julie G. Clinton, ON Let me just begin by saying that my husband and I have been using Banana Boat sunscreen for years, so getting a chance to test the Banana Boat Natural Reflect for kids was definitely something we looked forward to. Needless to say, we were not disappointed in it’s performance.
We look after our three grandkids one day each week while Mommy and Daddy are at work and our sunscreen arrived just in time for us to give it a good trial run.
Our big boy, 5 year old B. said “I like that it doesn’t smell girly. I don’t wanna smell like a girl!”
Miss Independent, 3 year old K. said ” I want to put it on myself.” and then shortly after “Oh no, I got it in my eye.” ( fyi, she helped Grandma put on the sunscreen – I’m not that trusting to let her do it all by herself.) The good news is it didn’t sting her eyes at all.
Teen tiny Miss L. is only 1 year old, so she didn’t have any comments to add to the interview, just a two tooth grin, but I was impressed at the ease of coverage on a squirmy, less than co-operative toddler. I also liked that it is SPF 50, since our threesome are all quite fair skinned.
Result – after an afternoon in the sun, no sunburns to report. Six little thumbs up from our munchkins and four big thumbs up from Grandma and Poppa. Well done, Banana Boat. Natural Reflect is a winner and a staple that will be in my cupboard this summer.
Erika B. High River, AB I was a bit hesitant and more excited to try this new Natural Sunscreen by Banana Boat. I have been searching forever to find an affordable natural sunscreen that Doesnr leave white residue and that actually does what it says its supposed to do! Well, my searching is over! My son loved this sunscreen, he played outside all morning with it on. He asked me once if he even had sunscreen on, because it disappears and you barely notice it at all. I am lucky I got to try this awesome sunscreen, because I now don’t have to stand there for 15 minutes comparing prices and brands of sunscreen. My kids skin is very important and they need a good product and this stuff does the trick!
Patti T. Mount Forest, ON My kids actually havent complained as much about using it. they say its not as sticky or “smelly” but like the smell instead! Both my kidlets are younger and fair skinned (and the boy one is usually shirtless) and have found that they sunscreen is protecting them and they are not even getting a tan! which is amazing, because they usually wear it off, but this has worked great.
Thanks to everyone who participated and sent in a review.
As promised, one of the reviewers is going to receive a $50 Gift Card just because they participated, and Julie G. Clinton, ON the winner is you!
