Before my first baby was born, I spent hours (and hours and tooo many hours) surfing the net for that perfect nursery. Eventually, we were able to turn my dream into reality and went for a pink, brown and white striped motif when we found out we were having a girl. We used painters tape, a ruler and a chair railing to get everything just right! I was incredibly proud of the beautiful room we created. It was surprisingly easy once we got started! We filled the room with a crib, dresser and rocking chair, it was the perfect little haven for my little angel that was growing bigger in my tummy each day.
With baby 2, my experience was a little bit different! First of all, I wasn’t expecting to become pregnant at all and had actually given away or thrown away all our baby gear. Rather than getting a room ready early on I took on a new hobby! I learned to crochet in September and was whipping up sweaters, booties, blankets, hats mitts – you name it, I was in full fledged nesting mode. I should have probably been getting the baby’s room together. Thankfully, just before baby came we quickly painted the nursery, bought a new crib (and a van) and were ready for our new bundle of joy (the only thing missing? Curtains – which we still don’t have… oops!).
So what do you need for a nursery? Crib, mattress, bedding, rocking chair, change table, dresser … chandelier (yes, we have one in Baby 2’s room)! It’s a lot of stuff, and while babies themselves are tiny, their gear can come with a big price tag. Sears currently has a baby promo, if you purchase $250 worth of nursery gear (before tax), you get 15% back on a cash card which can be used for future purchases. For example if you spend $1000 outfitting your perfect new room, you can have $150 to spend at a later date – bonus! Purchases must be made between March 22 – April 3, and the gift card can be used from May 1 – May 31.
If I were to redo my nursery, I would get a white crib, and go all out with a theme. I would get the complete full meal deal, rather than trying to piece things together. My new favourite colour combo is pink and grey and I’m tempted to redo Baby 2’s room in the Emma and Jack theme pictured above – how cute is that?
What does your perfect nursery look like?
