Wordless Wednesday: Eye Check (w. Linky)

by Mommy on February 12, 2013

We all had our eyes checked this week.  Princess, I Want A Pair Of Glasses made out well, she did have a slight astigmatism, but at this point, the Optomotrist said it was nothing to worry about.   I made a Toddler Eye Test a few years ago when Princess I Can’t See was squinting to see the television. Check it out.

Myself, on the other hand… I’m at -10 now.  To put things into perspective, the giant “E” isn’t legible at -4.  I’m pretty much blind and will be serisously considering laser eye surgery.

Yes – My oldest is 5.5. She’s been 3x and now wears glasses. Since having my last kids my prescription has dropped from +5.5 to +4.5ish. Still can’t see that big E, but I’m getting closer.

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:53 pm

WOW, your prescription is better… that is amazing. Hoping mine will do the same :)

Marianne February 14, 2013 at 12:45 am

I didn’t think it was possible :P When I put on my new glasses it felt they were WAY underpowered (and that they were WRONG when they tested me). Now if I pop on any of my old pairs they make me dizzy.

I would love if they’d correct to the point where I can at least squint to see the alarm clock in the middle of the night/early morning on the other side of the bed.

Dominique Goh@Dominique's Desk February 12, 2013 at 10:36 pm

I haven’t had an eye check in ages.. So far my kids all don’t need glasses and I hope that it remains at that.

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:53 pm

lucky, I do think it’s genetic

Tammi @ My Organized Chaos February 12, 2013 at 11:01 pm

I take the girls about every 6 months or so, eyes are terrible in our family! That being said, I would love to have lazer surgery, but the thought of surgery on my eye freaks me out way too much!

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:54 pm

hubby is the same… he can’t go through with the surgery. I would in a heartbeat, but it’s so darn expensive for my eyes…

My 9 month old son’s going to his first Optometrist appointment next month. A little nerve-wracking, but I’ll feel better he’ll be getting checked!

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:54 pm

9 months? That is very early. DD went at 3. Hope all is ok with him

multitestingmom February 12, 2013 at 11:10 pm

My hubby, daughter and I all have glasses – my 7 yr old daughter’s script has changed 3 times in the past year! My 4 year old son somehow has been blessed with perfect vision and desperately wants glasses – you can’t win! :)

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:57 pm

WOW,, that’s a lot of changes in a year. I think it’s genetic..,. fingers crossed for your son! Weird how they all want something they don’t have isn’t it?

Tarasview February 12, 2013 at 11:26 pm

none of us have glasses… yet!

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:57 pm

That’s amazing Tara! It’s not too often you see an entire family without them :) Do you feed them lots of carrots?

Sofia February 13, 2013 at 12:06 am

I hate the part where they shoot air at your eye!

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:58 pm

YES.. that puff! Luckily, I passed that part too & they don’t do it with kids

Diana from Nanny To Mommy February 13, 2013 at 12:39 am

I’m considering laser eye surgery too. I’ve worn glasses and/or contact lenses sense I was 12. :/

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:58 pm

ugh… wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up in the morning and see?

Tara February 13, 2013 at 1:52 am

My eyes are stabilized now, my son gets worse every six months and my daughter will need glasses, just not yet.

Mommy February 13, 2013 at 11:59 pm

I’m hoping mine are done changing.. I’m nearly 33… next step should just be bifocals..

Deborah / Mom2Michael February 13, 2013 at 10:29 am

-10?? Wow. yes, I’d be considering the surgery as well. I’m about -3 ish I think. About to get bifocals. Sigh

Mommy February 14, 2013 at 12:00 am

ugh,, bifocals… those will come soon enough. thankgoodness for the ones the transition bifocals

Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? February 13, 2013 at 10:42 am

I’m at -5 and thought that was blind. My hubby was at -6 and did PRK..he sees perfectly now. So jealous.

Mommy February 14, 2013 at 12:01 am

AH… good for him. I’ll have to save my pennies.. I mean nickels.

Jennifer February 13, 2013 at 11:03 am

I need to get my middle dude in for an eye test soon!

Mommy February 14, 2013 at 12:01 am

is he showing signs of squinting? Try the at home test Jen :) See how he does

tennille February 13, 2013 at 12:11 pm

I really should do this. Put it on the to do list

Mommy February 14, 2013 at 12:02 am

It’s important and in most provinces, covered by insurance for young kids.

Monica February 13, 2013 at 1:51 pm

Awhhh, look at how good she is being, looking right into the machine and holding her little stuffed animal so tightly! Too cute!

Mommy February 14, 2013 at 12:02 am

YES.. that is Lady Bug Blood… what a name eh?

angela m February 14, 2013 at 11:48 am

My oldest daughter had her eyes examined when she started school.

Helga February 15, 2013 at 4:13 pm

Be careful, laser surgery has its risks!

Adina Holwerda February 16, 2013 at 9:16 am

My husband and I have glassses, so far the kids are good :)

courtney b February 16, 2013 at 8:12 pm

that’s early to get a seeing test! i hate those little machines where they stick the air in your eye!

Ari February 18, 2013 at 7:29 am

Your daughter is very brave sitting in that chair with her head in the right position and her eyes directed straight ahead. After being traumatized with the air-puff glaucoma tonometer test after repeatedly having to suffer through it for years, I refuse to get any kind of those tests done. I’m such a wimp, but I probably couldn’t hold still long enough for that test to be effective.

Kathleen February 18, 2013 at 11:30 am

My husband and myself are currently looking into lasik surgery. We think that more than likely both our children will need glasses at a young age.

Crystal B February 18, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Look at her! She is so brave. I am trying to picture my daughter there… she would be losing her mind.

Areta February 19, 2013 at 12:17 pm

Eye health is important!

angie smith February 21, 2013 at 7:08 pm
