Jolly Rancher Heart Cookies

by Mommy on February 10, 2013

I really love Pinterest, it makes me feel crafty just looking through photos!  ”Look at all the super east things I could do that look so awesome”

Once in a while, I try things!

I spotted these Jolly Rancher Heart cookies on Pinterest, and just had to try them out for myself.  They looked easy and pretty impressive.

So, Princess Baker and I made some shortbread dough, cut out hearts, unwrapped Jolly Ranchers and stuck them in the oven.  They literally took about 7 minutes to cook and they actually worked – hurray!  BUT…. just because something looks great, doesn’t mean it is great.

While these cookies look incredibly amazing, like a stain glass window, they are way too weird to eat.  The combo of cookie and Jolly Rancher just doesn’t work.  The Jolly Rancher maintains it’s extremely tough chewy and sticky consistency.

Jolly Rancher Heart Shapped Cookies

This isn’t the first time something from Pinterest hasn’t exactly worked out.  Well… it looks like it’s suppose to  (we just added sprinkles), but as for eating, don’t let it’s good looks fool you.

What are your experiences with Pinterest?  Have things worked out for you?

I tried something called Aussie Bites. Those worked great. So did these no bake protein balls. My kids loved those.

The thing that didn’t work at all was drawing on ceramic with Sharpie and baking it. By baking it, it’s supposed to stick. My oldest son drew something he liked, we baked it and it washed right on off. I grew celery stems in water. That worked, then it started to mold. That wasn’t a true success either.

The the cookies are a great idea. It’s not about how it looks, but rather how it tastes.
I am absolutely addicted to pinterest. I love all the craft ideas, clothing ideas and recipes. Most of the stuff from pinterest worked out pretty well for me, but I also pick things to try if I think they are more or less fool proof.

That’s to bad. The idea sounds delicious but I’m not big on chewy either.

Jolly Ranchers are a nightmare on the teeth!

You’ll have to try making an apple pie and tossing some cinnamon hearts in it! They melt and make the pie taste super good. (Not from Pinterest — but from an old cook book!)

Rats! I’m looking at the tasty looking picture and reading this, thinking yummy! That is until I got to the part about the jolly ranchers tasting like, well…jolly ranchers. I wonder if you could use some other candy, like cinnamon hearts? These look like they should be awesome!

Your cookies are so cute, too bad they didn’t work.

The first sentence in this post is exactly how I feel :) I love all the pictures and ideas, but don’t think I would try anything from there unless it’s from one of my favorite blogs. But then, I would see it on the blog first anyway. What I love to use are the recipes on the packages and booklets. In my experience they always turn out great, because the manufacturer knows how much it means if the customer loves the recipe from the first try and puts a lot of effort in developing it. A lot of unusual for me products became regular in our house because of the recipes attached to them.

Too bad they didn’t turn out as expected but they do look yummy though!

Hahah! That is sooo me – pinning like a mad man, but not actually TRYING what I pin :-)

I have also found a lot of dud recipes/crafts while pinning.. but hey, the actual fun process can be worth the dud result!

This looks like it SHOULD be delicious… maybe eat around the Jolly Rancher until the cookie part is done and then eat the melted candy part by itself at the end?

Kathleen February 18, 2013 at 2:31 pm

They do look great. It is too bad they didn’t taste great.

They do look like a work of art and ya, like a stained glass window. Sad that they didn’t turn out the way that you expected :(

Those look delicious, never tried anything from pinterest for baking I don’t think. I’m not that experienced LOL.

Those cookies are beautiful. I second what you mean about looking nice and tasting great. I did a similar thing last year with shortbread cookies, by putting crushed strawberry candy canes in the middle (I had a surplus post-Christmas). The strawberry part ended up with much the same consistency as you describe.
