I must admit, I’m enjoying my second baby much more than my first for many reasons.
- Baby 2 isn’t a crier, she usually enjoys sleep and is all around pleasant.
- I’m much more relaxed as a parent; I’m much more confident and not at stressed.
- I pretty much have everything I already need for a baby, clothes, accessories and even cloth diapers. There are some things however that need to be purchased once again.
We had our children 4 1/2 years apart, so by the time baby 2 came along, we needed a new car seat. There was no question in my mind which type of seat I wanted – it was Britax. These are known for their safety features and good quality. Here’s a little story:
Baby 2 was born in December, at just a few days old my oldest daughter had a Christmas party. I took baby 2 with us to the party, she was maybe 10 days old and probably close to 5.5 pounds (pretty darn small). There was another Mom there with a baby and she was oogling over my little angel. When the party was over, we were packed up and I put Baby 2 in her new Britax car seat. The other Mom made a comment like “WOW, that is the Cadillac of all car seats”.
I hadn’t really thought about it, but she was right and to be honest, I think my little princess deserves a Cadillac. There are many reasons this car seat is a standard above other brands. One thing I noticed when it first arrived was the little insert in the back of the seat which accommodates my itty bitty baby to make sure she’s in her seat really snug and tight. Once she reaches 11 pounds (which should be soon), this insert can be removed.
Another safety feature is in the base called the anti-rebound bar. This bar fits snug against the seat of the car and if we were ever to get into an accident, the base will not be able to tilt forward as the bar wont allow for any movement. Let’s hope I never have to experience how well it works, but I do have faith in it.
With my daughters previous car seat (a non Britax) the straps had to be manually moved from one slot to another as my daughter grew. There were periods when they were either too low or too high. I’m not sure how safe this was, but there would be no other option. With the Britax Chaperone, the shoulder straps move up and down easily with 8 different positions at about a cm at a time (most others have about 3 positions). This means the shoulder straps fit perfect at all times.
The car seat clicks into the base easily, but I find I have to squeeze the handle extra hard to get the car seat off the base – which isn’t a bad thing. That seat is not coming off the base inadvertently.
We’re extra pleased with the Chaperone, there isn’t too much more important than safety when it comes to babies, especially in a car. And don’t you think this little doll is worth keeping safe? I sure do.
