Last November my family and I had the opportunity to test drive the Escape for 2 weeks. I loved it, there are so many features (kick open and close trunk, hands free parallel parking, camera/video for backing up…) to name just to name a few. But for my family, it was the bonus of having a second car that I absolutely loved the most. So much in fact, that right after those 2 weeks, we knew we needed to get a second vehicle.
My absolute favourite feature is the kick open/close trunk. Have you ever had a handful of groceries, shopping bags, kids and everything else while struggling for your keys to try to open the drunk? Yeah – so have I and it’s not pretty. I’ve evened up with a few bruised apples this way. The kick open trunk is amazing, just with a single and simple “foot kick” the truck opens and then kick it again and it closes. You’re probably thinking why would you need your foot to kick the trunk closed after you put everything in the trunk. Well, when you get home and have to take all your goodies into the house, you have to grab them in your hands and closing the trunk with your foot is a lot easier than with your hands full of bags. Now if I could only get the same technology for my front door life would be really good!
I also love the rear camera when the vehicle is in reverse, not only is this functional it’s also a great safety feature. I’m not the best driver, and it’s even worse driving backwards so the camera is a treat. Not only does it visually show me what’s going on but it also beeps (faster and faster) when you are close to hitting something (not that I know from experience or anything…. ).
I also like the auto assist parallel parking. Years ago when I was in university, I was a pro at parallel parking, but having the ability to just push a single button and have the car park itself, is incredible! Especially in small spaces.
After realizing that we absolutely needed a second vehicle after we had 2 cars for 2 weeks, we went on a car search. There were a few things that were important to us, and the first and most important was space. We are now a family of 4, and my Mother lives with us 5 days a week, making it 5 people. We also go on a few trips in the year and it’s nice to travel in comfort. While we loved everything about the Ford Escape, it just didn’t have enough room for our needs. Do you know how much space Christmas presents take up? You need a decent trunk for presents along with all the luggage if you plan on a trip.
So, in the end, despite all the amazing features that Ford has to offer, we went with a minivan … I know, I know. It’s official, I’m a soccer Mom and yes, Princess is starting soccer in January. It’s been wonderful having a second vehicle, so thank you Ford for the chance to have the second car for a few weeks, it made us realize we needed it!
