Kinder Surprise for Boys & Girls

Kinder Hot Wheels

My poor husband lives in a house full of estrogen.  There’s myself, our 2 daughters, my Mom and even our dog is female!  He’s surrounded by all things pink, shiny, and a bunch of hormones.  While my princess looks like a girly girl, always dressed in the most amazing dresses, wears a crown, loves jewellery, wants to wear makeup, and plays Mommy all the time, she still had a lot of tom boy in her.  She loves all things sporty, playing hockey in the spring (in a dress) and it doesn’t end there, she also likes to play on the ice with her dad in the winter (in a pink snow suit of course).

Whatever type of child you have at home, Kinder Surprise has something special for them!

Hockey Girl

Kinder Surprise has added something new to their already amazing chocolate and toy line, they teamed up with Barbie and Hot Wheels.  There’s been a bit of controversy online about this latest partnership, the good old fashion Pink vs Blue.  But here’s my take on it: There’s no need for toys to be gender specific.  My daughter has played with the Hot Wheels toys more than the Barbie toys.  And to encourage my daughters independent and creativity, we don’t call them boy and girl toys, we call the toys by what they are: a bracelet  a monster, a car, a ring and we let her play with whatever toy is inside the Kinder.  If I eliminate the gender, there’s no need for her to see cars as boy toys or Barbie’s as girl toys.  She can play with whatever toy she thinks is fun.

Do your kids love Kinder Surprised, and Barbie and/or Hotwheels?  Check out their Facebook Fan page to win 1 of 40 Prize Packs.

These little chocolate treats are a special way for myself and my daughter to enjoy a little moment throughout the day.  There doesn’t have to be a specific reason, just a way for a Mom and her daughter to enjoy a little break (with some chocolate – yum) and then a little surprise.  We both enjoy Kinder Surprises, although for different reasons, there’s always smiles when we have a Kinder Moment!

OVERtired

Oh The Joys of Motherhood!  Isn’t it wonderful being a Mom?  Over worked and under appreciated, but all it takes is a smile, a kiss, a “I Love You” and all those late sleepless nights and temper tantrums,  are wiped away from our memory (or it might be the lack of sleep).  There is nothing that will bring more joy in our lives than our children!

Starting next month, Fisher Price is launching their OVERjoyed campaign, it’s all about the REAL joys of being a Mom!  So you can expect a post about my Motherhood “joys”  Over and Over again each month!

New babies are not born with watches or the ability to tell time, so lately, we’ve been “OVERtired”.  Here’s Princess Awake at 3 something in the morning.  Big Yawn.  When she’s awake, it also means I’m awake.  So, “OVERtired is probably the most fitting to start off this campaign.

What’s your “OVER”?

Tax Tips for Families with Children – (4 Winners)

HRBlock logo

With 2012 behind us, it`s time to start thinking about taxes!  If there are 2 things in life we can be sure of, it`s “death and taxes”.  Taxes don`t have to always bring on the blues.  It can mean money in your pocket if your plan your year, deductions and purchases right.

Here are a few things families with kids can claim on their income taxes:

Having a Baby:

We certainly lucked out in 2012 – we had a baby.  In December I gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and although she hasn`t been with us for a full year, we still get to claim her as a dependant, a full $2,191.  I guess there was a huge benefit for her early arrival.  If one parent can`t claim all the benefit, the other can!  (Of course, you also claim any other child living at home)

HRB2011Digital-ENGBeing Active:

We signed Princess Activity up for all kinds of sports: soccer, skating and swimming.  Parents can claim up to $500 per child (16 years and under)  for physical activities.  And for my local readers in Nova Scotia, there is also a provincial credit for being active as well – bonus.

Paying for Child Care:

Who takes care of your kids?  Did you know that you can claim up to $7000 per child for day care (assuming you’ve paid at least that much).  This is a huge expense for families, my friends and I were talking about some years paying nearly $20,000 in child care per year, so every deduction counts.

Being Artistic:

This one is brand new.  If your kids take artistic classes, like language, Girl Guides, Scouts or ballet, you can claim up to $500 on your taxes.  I love this option, specifically because not all kids are “sporty”, and would rather focus on the Arts.

Taking the Bus:

That’s right, if you or your kids under the age of 19 buy bus passes, you can claim it!  As long as there are 4 weeks in a row of bus passes.

Saving for Education:

While you don’t necessarily get a tax benefit for saving for your kids education with an RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan), the government will add a maximum of $500 to each child’s plan.  This is basically like free money.

Ensure you save your receipts when claiming each of these family related tax deductible benefits.

You have until April 30th to complete your taxes.  If you owe money, and send in your taxes after the April 30th deadline you will be charged interest.  But hopefully with a few of the tax tips mentioned above, you’ll have extra money in your pocket!
