HEXBUG – The Hive

Last year, HEXBUGs were my number one pick for a Christmas Gift Idea for the kids.  Throughout the year, I’ve given HEXBUGs to many kids as a birthday present and have received rave reviews from the parents and kids.  So, once again, I’m going highly suggest these vibrating little bugs as a Christmas Gift for kids – boy or girl, it doesn’t really matter.

The HEXBUG line is expanding, but all the pieces are are still compatible with whatever package you buy.  Your whole living room could be a HUXBUG haven if you wanted it to be (and somedays ours has been).  The latest HEXBUG addition is “The Hive” – this is a self contained bug zone that comes complete with (as) it’s own carrying case.  With other HEXBUGs each little compartment comes apart and needs to be stored in a container of some sort.  The Hive is self contained and simply opens up to hours of fun and then closes for quick and easy clean up.  The Hive includes some new accessories such as a seesaw, pegs and flags for your little bugs to have lots of fun.  I like The Hive for how compact is it, however I enjoyed being able to make our own maze with the original pieces better, it allows for more creativity.

These are a huge hit with kids (young and old – I have a couple of cousins in their 20’s that have enjoyed playing HEXBUGs with Princess when they come to visit).  This is truly a unique toy that is lots of fun and anyone can and will enjoy.  My only suggestion would be to make sure to get a few extra bugs and some bug food (batteries), cause these will be played with for hours.

Enjoy, you wont regret getting these for the special kids on your list.

  1. I was thinking, although the kids do love Legos, this looks like maybe the pieces are not so tiny? I know my 5 year old grandson Hunter would love this. I dont get out to shop much so have not seen them yet. Nice they keep expanding so you can add to them.

    thanks for review!
