Old El Paso – Make it a Mexican Night!

Last month, I had an amazing opportunity to visit Mexico.  I love Mexico.  I studied there 10 years ago and there’s a huge place in my heart for that country.  There’s no way I’d ever be able to replicate the food, but thanks to Old El Paso, I can get a small taste of some Mexican cuisine to bring back good memories.

I had the chance to test out some of their brand new on the shelf products.

The first product is the new Extra Mild, Super Tasty Hard Taco Dinner Kit! I’m not really a fan of hard tacos, I like soft tacos the best.  But what I did enjoy was the sauce.  Being pregnant, I have to really be careful what I eat, and spices are pretty much a “no no”.  The sauce was light and not spicy.  I was also surprised to see it was more creamy than other sauces.  I wasn’t able to get Princess Picky Eater to have any tacos, but she really enjoyed the shredded cheese.

We also tried the The new Hot & Spicy Fajita Dinner Kit!  I LOVE fajitas!!! And I especially love saying the word fajita with a “j”, it sounds so funny.  These were the hot and spicy flavour and yup, true to their name they sure were hot and spicy.  I used a lot more water than the recipe called for to try to water it down, and didn’t even use the salsa intended for the kit.  I actually used other mild salsa and still found it to be spicy.  In my non pregnant days, this would be fine, but right now my heart burn is like fire.  While the fajitas tasted really yummy going down, later in the evening, it was like there was a Fiesta in my esophagus.
