Nesting – Learning to Crochet

by Mommy on September 17, 2012

So, I’m in my 5th month of pregnancy and am taking on some tasks that I never thought I’d ever do.  I’m learning to crochet.  Thanks to YouTube and some Free Crochet patterns, I was able to whip up a hat in an evening.  I picked up a crochet needle for the first time on Saturday morning, starting with just straight lines and by Sunday night, I could already make a hat. I think I’m going to like this hobby!  To all the professional crochers out there, please don’t look too closely at my work, remember this is my very first project.

So, over the next 4 months, I will probably be whipping up a few more hats, booties and maybe even a little sweater.  If I’m MIA, you can bet that I’m crocheting!

(sorry about the pic, it was impossible to get a decent one on Princess Can’t Keep Still)

If you want to find some good free crochet patterns, check out this website.

**THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST, JUST THOUGHT YOU’D LIKE to do some nesting as well.

When I was expecting, I started knitting a blanket. I knitted and knitted but it just looked so awful in the end, I gave up. What a sad story. I hope yours turns out better than mine ;)

I tried knitting years ago and it didn’t work out well. If you mess up, it’s very obvious. I think crocheting is a little more forgiving – you should try it!

Thanks for the encouragement :)

Really? I’ve always wanted to be crafty but with knitting, I couldn’t get the hang of the tension so the scarf was all wide, skinny, wide, skinny. Though I guess I could have went “I did that on purpose”. lol.

I’ve attempted to learn crochet, and have been unsuccessful so far. Kudos on teaching yourself, and making a hat!

start off easy… a cloth or something. YouTube instructions really helped as well

I really want to learn to crochet! I just don’t know if I have the patience to teach myself

Youtube really helped. I never picked up a needle before Saturday and I just now finished my first baby bootie… it’s slow going for now, but soon enough I’ll get faster. go for it! Never hurts to try

What a great job for your first one. Very proud of you. I have tried to crochet but no luck. For now I will stick with knitting.

Thanks Tracey. I tried Knitting once – it wasn’t overly successful. So far, so good with crochet. I guess there’s something for everyone.

This is awesome!!! You’ll have to make your kiddos matching hats!

When I was a beginner I liked crocheting best because I could easily fix my mistakes. Some people find knitting easier because of the grip.

Have you knitted before — you’ll have to try that next!

That looks much more experienced then a first timer! Looks like you have a natural talent. Crocheting is becoming such a lost hobby. It’s awesome to know people still do.

My mom can crochet on auto-pilot while she watches TV, ha! She has tried to teach me at least a half a dozen times, but it just won’t stick yet. It looks fun, though, and you can really make some adorable things! (she makes beautiful scarves, and amigurumi toys)
