I am a self proclaimed chocoholic. My daughter has an app book called Princess Chocolate, she loves everything chocolate, veggies, toothpaste, you name it, if it can be made of chocolate, she loves it. I thought the book was written after myself and my love of chocolate. Interestingly enough, during this pregnancy, I don’t really crave chocolate much at all… don’t get me wrong, I still love chocolate, but it just doesn’t do “it” for me. My new love? Chips… yup, I’m crazy over the saltiness of chippies.
I recently had the chance to test out a huge basket of Lays chips – it’s a hard life. Thankfully, lots of family were around to help me devour all of them. My favourites? Well, it’s a tie between the classic Regular flavour and Salt and Vinegar. Last year, I had the opportunity to visit a Lays farm in PEI, I learned all about how the potatoes were made, and why Lays chips are always so crispy with a beautiful yellow/whitish colour. Only the best potatoes are chosen and it’s obvious by how delicious they are that no potato that isn’t up to par isn’t thrown into a bag for processing.
I recently learned something about Lays that I kind of already knew, because I had seen it before, but never put 2 and 2 together. Lays chips are gluten free. I know a few gluten free people, and have seen them chomping on Lay’s chips. I it is extremely difficult to find a meal that will not upset their tummies. Special menus are required at restaurants, it’s very rare that they can participate in social events that include food, because there will often not be enough food choices; they are often left to bring their own meals.
So, for all of you out there that have gluten free friends, believe it of not, they can have a bag of Lays Chips.
Or for those of you who just can’t get enough salt (like me now), Enjoy! I know I am.
