While growing up, I didn’t even know there was a Disneyland, being on the east coast of Canada, Disney World was all the buzz. I have since learned that Disneyland is actually the original, and Disney World only opened about 15 years later. Goes to show when you’re a kid, you only know what your own little world is about. I was actually an adult by the time I made it to Disney World myself, and now, have finally had the opportunity to experience the original, Disneyland.
My day at Disneyland was amazing. I loved every minute of it. I was first surprised to find out there is actually 2 parks, California Adventure (where the new Carsland is located) and then the Disneyland Park, which both happen to be right within walking distance. I must admit, I loved the convenience of going from one park to another, I can really see the benefit of a Hopperpass between these 2 parks. I was surprised as to the size of the castle at Disneyland, compared to Disney World, it was quite a bit smaller, but it didn’t affect my experience at all… this is just more of a side note.
To help us get the full experience of the park in as little time as possible, we had a guide with us, Emily. She was just as sweet as any Disney character in the park! We were able to jump on rides quickly without having to wait in line. I Highly recommend a tour guide! Look into it, you wont regret it, in 3 hours, we got on 8 rides.
Being pregnant, we went on some of the easier rides, Pirates of the Caribbean (which was actually created before the movies ever were)
Alice in Wonderland
the train, Buzz Lightyear
Racers, and Aviation – which was by far my favourite ride, I cried when it was done. I’m emotional, I’m pregnant, and The Little Mermaid.
The newest rides at Disneyland are in Carsland. This looks and feels just like the movie cars, we all know Disney takes pride in their attention to details and of course, they haven’t fallen short when it comes to Carsland (does Disney ever disappoint? I don’t think so). We had a chance to get a fastpass onto the ride Racers. This is like a ride through Route 66, with mountains but with Lightening McQueen and all his friends.
The ride starts off pretty mild, but don’t let it fool you, it picks up speed and you’re in a one on one race against another speedster right next to you. Normally, I’d love the thrill of these kids of rides – I LOVE roller coasters, so a nice fast ride like this would be right up my aisle, but being pregnant, I wouldn’t really recommend it. The height restriction is 40 inches tall, and I’m sure the little ones will be begging for a re-run, but Moms, if you’re expecting a baby, the quick dips and turns might just be a little too much for you.
Overall, my day at Disney California Adventures & Disneyland was fantastic. What I really loved about it, and will make me want to return with my family, is the hotels are right on site, no need for buses, you can actually walk right to the hotels and come and go as you please into the parks! Can’t wait to return.
For all my East Coasters who have only thought of Disney World (just cause it’s so much closer), Disneyland is awesome too! I LOVED it!
