Wordless Wednesday: PSA Elevator (Linky)

by Mommy on July 17, 2012

Hi Everyone,

So, Wordless Wednesdays tend to be a large traffic source, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you a Public Service Announcement about young kids and elevators….

I know, I know, kinda odd, but this past weekend a dear young boy I know very well had his tiny fingers caught in an elevator while the doors opened.  Believe it or not, kids fingers can get trapped/stuck/squeezed between these tiny spaces if they keep their hands on the doors as they open.  I saw it happen, it was dreadfully scary and if writing this posts keeps even one childs little fingers off of elevator doors while they open and out of the cracks then I deem this post successful.

Please let everyone know about the dangers.  Thankfully his fingers were saved, but it was extremely scary non-the-less and could have ended much worse.

Thanks for listening.

If you have a WW, please make a comment and link it up below.

Thanks so much for sharing! It’s surprising where little fingers can get caught!

That is scary and a very good reminder. Always a good idea to have them stand back.

and it all happened so quickly too…. I was panicking to find the open door button! ugh… I never thought such a thing could happen. Stand back and don’t face the door!

Lynette: Darn elevators are a big hazard. My girl jumps in because her grandma has freaked her out over stuff like this. That is scary and legitimately so. Poor kid.

I know… so afterwards everytime we went into the elevator… Princess was warning EVERYONE about the hazard, it obviously affected her very strongly as well.

yikes. that is insane!

We are just dealing with elevator safety now living on the 7th floor of a building… good reminder.

oh my, that is terrifying! I have always worried about that :(

Thanks for this warning. Kids sometimes do things that adults don’t expect :) .

Very scary and an important reminder to all!

I never thought about that one. I do fear escalators! I imagine a kid falling down one of those and their head hitting the metal edges again and again. It freaks me out when my kids go down them!

Deborah / Mom2Michael July 18, 2012 at 9:35 am

Oh my! I had never thought of this. So glad he is ok.

caught while the doors opened? wow, I am always careful about the door closing but I never worried about them opening as much. good to know

Adelina Priddis July 18, 2012 at 10:37 am

OH that is scary! Elevators scare me. I always worry that my kids will run on, and the doors will shut before I can get on with the baby in the stroller, or that they’ll get their fingers caught in doors. Or they’ll push a button and get us stuck.

Nolie July 18, 2012 at 10:52 am

So scary. I always make sure mine is standing far away from the doors.

Wendy [mapsgirl] July 18, 2012 at 11:44 am

Yikes!! I never even thought of that! I’m going to be very careful with my kiddies little fingers.

Anna at Mama Writes July 18, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I always worry about that because my daughter loves elevators and she has often reached for the door as it closes or opens. I have to be on the alert the whole time to make sure her hands stay put! Great advice.

Jody @ Mommy Moment July 18, 2012 at 3:58 pm

That is so scary :(
Thanks for the linky.

Cheryl July 18, 2012 at 11:56 pm

I always worry about that too. The sensors on most elevators (unless you’re in a hospital) isn’t strong enough to detect little fingers. :(
