Keep Them Busy This Summer

by Mommy on July 23, 2012

Summer has made it’s way to Nova Scotia.  The mercury has been sky high and there hasn’t been a single drop of rain to be seen in weeks.  This is going to be the summer to compare all summers to.  Princess I Love Spending Every Minute of Everyday Outside has also been thrilled with the beautiful weather, and so have I.

So, what do you do with a kid that ALWAYS wants to be outside, but it’s not always possible to bring her around the city to always explore new things?  Luckily enough, my Mother takes care of Princess My Granny Loves Me, so they are on the go around the neighbourhood quite a bit.  Bike rides, picnics, and the park are some of their favourite activities.  Living on a cul-de-sac has it’s perks, one of them is that there are always kids gathered to play soccer, ride on their toys and just run around aimlessly until they are completely exhausted.  Watching the kids run around for hours, makes me jealous of their energy levels, it’s non-stop full force, full tilt.  They play hard, and then crash hard.

On the weekends, it’s up to hubster and I to keep Princess I Need Constant Stimulation occupied.  We try our best to get the boring stuff (groceries and shopping) on Friday night, so we have Saturday free to have some good summer fun.  Last weekend we went for weekend trip to the waterslides.  Princess I Never Want to Leave loved the day of non-stop, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down on the kiddie slides.  Even her Dad got in on the fun. We actually all had a wonderful vacation, and to make it even better we went with 3 other couples.

Summer is such a short season here on the East Coast, we get 3 months of really nice weather so we have to make the best of those 3 short months.

What do you do with your kids in the summer? Camps? kick them outside?
