Last month, I announced to all of you that I’m pregnant. I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of activity lately, that’s cause it’s hard to type with your head in the toilet.
To get Princess I Don’t Want to be a Big Sister excited about becoming a sister “that’s older than her new sybling, but still just a little girl” we decided to get her involved with the big pregnancy announcement.
Rather than myself or my husband spread the news to family and friends, we had Princess I Don’t Really Know How to Use the Phone Yet call our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and spread the good news.
It went something like this:
Person on the other end: “Hello?”
Princess: “Mommy, haws a new baby in her tummy”
Person on the other end: “Hello? Who is this?”
Princess: “Mommy, um… haws a baby”
Person on the other end: “Hello? I think you have the wrong number”
Me *Grabbing the phone*: Hello? Hi, it’s us…. I wanted to let you know we’re pregnant, that was Princess Can’t Quite Talk on the Phone on the phone…..
….
Ok, so we tried! It was a lot easier for Princess I want to Tell Everyone the Good News to spread the word through Skype or in person because everyone knew who they were speaking with.
If you’re looking for a way to get your older kids involved in the big announcement, I highly suggest this method, it is 90% successful! And your wee one will feel like they are part of the excitement too. Afterwards, she was sharing the news with her friends and people on the street and in grocery stores. So, just make sure you’re ready for everyone to know the news before your little one starts spreading it with strangers.

We got kiddo a shirt that says Only Child and it’s crossed out and under it says BIG SISTER. Took a pic…still have yet to announce on FB
That’s so sweet!! LOVE IT!
Great idea Nicole. I wanted to tell people personally (family in particular) before making the FB announcement!
Congratulations!
Thank you
GREAT GREAT GREAT idea, Lynette! TOO Cute!
Thanks Raylene! She’s been having fun, and so have we
That’s so cute!! We just called our family and friends then announced it online for everyone else to see. Dd also goes around telling EVERYONE even strangers lol so funny!
Yippee!! That’s so great Alyssa!! Congrats, we will go through this together.
I’m glad the little ones are excited.
That is SO cute! Congrats
Haha, that first line had me on the floor!!
I’m pretty much on the floor as well…..
Laying flat!
That’s fun!!!
In order for Mica to be ready for the big day I got him a doll. Sounds crazy, but we roll played. He got me diapers. I pretended to burp the doll and so on. He was still not very good about having a baby around. I always wished my kids were switched around. Isaak’s much more into babies than Mica is. There is nothing I can do about that.
That’s a great idea. We were talking about that as well, and learning to swaddle and such… My daughter is a very good helper, I hope she will be a great sister.
There’s not a whole lot you can do is there?
I was almost 12 weeks along when we gathered for DS1′s first birthday. Luckily all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins were there to celebrate the big day. We gathered everyone in the back yard under the pretense of getting a group photo and when our friend was about to snap the photo I said to the group “everybody ready? everyone smile and say “Luke’s going to be a big brother”…they all said “Luke’s going to be a….WHAT!?!?!?” and they all looked at us…it was PRICELESS and we have it all on video

That’s amazing!!! What a great way to capture it on video
GREAT idea! My youngest is 3 and I think she would smack me in the face if I had another baby. She rules the house and sometimes she scares us. Glad your daughter is getting used to the idea of the new babe.
lol! that’s funny!
Congrats!!!!!!!!
Skype wouldn’t have been an option for us. Our first son was only 2 when our second was born, so we couldn’t ask him to spread the news for us. We ended up getting these darling pregnancy announcement cards with a big brother pushing a baby carriage that had a pair of little blue booties sticking out: http://www.babycachet.com/Big_Brother_Carriage_Boy_Pregnancy_Announcements_p/bmip0009.htm
In the annnouncement itself, we worded it so that it was big brother making the announcement.
Congratulations!!
