Top 3 Way to Get Your Dishes Cleaner (Giveaway) – Closed

What do your dishes look like after they’ve been put through the dishwasher?  Do they get really clean? White filmy stuff left on them? Forks and knives with crud left behind?  Do you wash BEFORE you wash?  As a Finish Blogger, I had the chance to get the inside scoop from the Finish’s dishwasher technician trainer, Diane to get to the bottom of all our dishwasher woes.

My question would be: “How can I get the dishes to wash themselves and put themselves away”….

But looking for serious questions, I turned to my readers and received the following, more appropriate question: “Why is it my new LG leaves white filmy stains… and yes, the jetdry is full”

I sent this question forward, and this is the answer I received:

Types of Glass Corrosion (Etching) – Caused by soft Water

  • How do you know if you have corrosion? Do the vinegar test:
    • Rub white vinegar on glass with a soft tissue and cloudiness goes away it’s hard water build up.
    • Using a good detergent will help.
    • If vinegar comes back, it’s soft water etching (permanent).
  • Partial corrosion: damaged in production of glass, flame too high when attaching stem, same with Line corrosion – damage in the mould.
  • Iridescent: rainbow-type look, cheaper/lower grade of sand used to produce glassware.
I always thought it was the quality of the detergent used, not the type of water and quality of the glass.

I also received questions such as:  “Would anyone like to do my dishes this week” and I can be pretty sure the answer is, only if you want to do mine.

If you’re having problems getting your dishes clean, here are some Tips from Diane:

  • Check your temperature – the water should be at least 120 degrees
  • Load it properly – make sure each dish will have a clear path to the water spraying around
  • Use a quality product – powered detergents are activated by water.  Under the sink is damp and your detergent could already have used it’s magic before it ends up in the dishwasher.
  • 80% of dishwasher repair calls are false alarms – check these simple things before you call a techie.
Also, on the Finish Facebook page, if you missed it, they are giving away free boxes of Finish.

  1. I don’t have as many dishes since 4 of the 5 children are out of the house. The fifth does a lot of his own dishes. Not too many problems for me.

  2. Finish Tabs are the only dishwasher detergent I will use in my house! They clean my dishes better than anything else I’ve tried!

  3. I have a lot of mismatched blue and white dishes paired with mismatched mexican blue glassware. I have tried lots of different dishwasher detergents but always come back to Finish.

  4. My husband always rinses dishes before putting them in the dishwasher because he wants to use the smart cycle. If he uses the regular cycle he wouldn’t have to rinse them, because they come out clean. Which uses more water? I know what uses more time….

  5. My dishes sometimes has tea stain left on the cups in top rack, I found only the powder won’t have this problem.

  6. I seem to get a sandy residue on my glasses that I have to reclean. Perhaps due to our well water?

  7. My dishes…well, they are for the most part white or at least they used to be. In the house we used to live in, it was in the country and had a well so full of iron that everything turned yellow or at least a tinge of yellow. As time has gone on, I have been able to get rid of most of it. Thank goodness! I do have an older dishwasher now that I rinse every dish thoroughly before putting it in the dishwasher which sort of defeats the purpose of having a dishwasher. I would love to win and try Finish to see if it is able to clear the rest of the yellow tinge and minimize the amount of rinsing I must do.

  8. I used to hate doing dishes because I could never find anything that would work really well in my dishwasher so I would have to rinse them all anyway. However finish works AWESOME!! I never have to pre rinse or anything love it!

  9. My habit is to rinse off my dishes before loading. Once in a while they have a white residue on them after going thru the cycle. I haven’t tried the Finnish tabs but have heard some positive reviews.

  10. I wish I could do ALL my dishes in the dishwasher but with a 2 & 5 year old that still use plastic cups I can’t. The chemicals in plastic leaches out when exposed to high temps like in the dishwasher (even the BPA free) so washing by hand is my only option.

  11. My glasses and containers always come out wet. I set them on the dish rack to dry completely. That means I practically have to empty my dishwasher twice.

  12. We have 2 sets of dishes. Kids and adults. Plastic for the kids. I think I broke more dishes than my kids over the years, lol. I guess I should be in the category with the kids.

  13. I dont’ have a very good dishwasher so I do alot of re-washing in the sink especially glassware

  14. We have a hard time getting our dishes clean. I am always embarrassed when people use our glasses. They look gross.

  17. I never seem to stop creating and scraping and unloading and reloading the dishwasher with DISHES 🙂

  18. My glasses come out of the dishwasher with a white film on them so I end up washing them again by hand. 🙁
