What to do in Ft. Myers Beach

Each winter, my family and I go south for a week.  This year, we went a little extreme, we went for a month.  Week one was in the Orlando area, and then the next 3 weeks were in Ft. Myers Beach.  During our time here, we accomplished a lot!  Not only have we spent time at the beach and the pool, we have also put many miles on our rental Ford Escape.

Here are a few things we’ve enjoyed at Ft. Myers Beach and area…

Sunset at the Doc House.  Although the sun doesn’t set until after 6 pm, you have to show up to the Doc House after 4 if you want to get a good seat.  Grouper (Fish) sandwiches and pizzas are on the menu, nothing too fancy, but pretty yummy.  While you may think the sun set is beautiful wherever you are one the sun officially goes to sleep for the night the sun set here was amazing, one of the best we’ve seen during our stay.

Dinner and a movie at the Beach Front Theatre.  We watched the movie War Horse while having dinner and drinks.  The theatre is rather small, but has dinner tables and servers so you can eat a full supper or just get regular popcorn.

Dolphin tours.  Whatever you want to see the dolphins, either on a boat, seadoo or just standing on the beach, keep your eyes out cause they travel in pairs all around the Ft. Myers Beach area.

Time Square.  We hit up time square in the evenings, bands and other entertainment are there each night.  There are also restaurants, shopping and the best fudge ever at Kilwins.   It’s so yummy, and if you buy 1 pound of fudge, you get 1/2 a pound free.  (We may or may not have done this…)

We also did some sighseeing and day dreaming.  The homes close by are incredible.  This house is to be rumoured to be Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s old beach home.

The beach.  We went to the beach never even single day.  If you are not living beach side, make sure your condo is close to a public access area.  Just to get to the water once we started walking on the beach took nearly 5 minutes – it’s THAT wide.  This was really the highlight of the trip for me.  The sand was power white and very fine, almost like flour (or snow…).  If you are looking for a great beach, Ft. Myers Beach is where it’s at.

Overall, our vacation was amazing.  I’d return to Ft. Myers Beach in an instant.  Not that I have much to complain about, but when leaving the island it could sometimes take an hour or even longer due to traffic.  Sometimes, I thought it would be quicker to walk, and if I was left to walk anywhere, it would have been to the beach anyway.
