Shoe Secret Exposed

by Mommy on January 22, 2012

Are you are shoe fanatic? Yea, I like shoes too, but the price – not so much. For all you shoe fans out there, have I got some news for you.

On Saturday, we took Princess Ballerina to buy ballet slippers. While there, it was imperative I also get my feet squished by that shoe measuring machine. My foot was nearly a size 7 – no surprise there, they’ve been that size since I was in Junior High.

The sale associate took me over to the kids section and told me to try on a size 5 girls shoe. I kind of chuckled, doubted her and then took one of my shoes off. I slipped on the size 5 girls shoe and started to laugh, it was TOO BIG. Yes, you did just read that right, girls size 5 shoe was too large for my foot. So, I tried on a girls size 4.5 and it fit – perfectly! What?!? The small hamster in my mind was running overtime and was extremely tired by this point. Poor little fella.

If your ladies shoe size is 8 or below you’re in luck. Here’s the scoop:

Ladies 7 = Girls 5

Ladies 8 = Girls 6

Kids shoes are way less expensive and there is only 5% tax in Nova Scotia. Most of the larger kids shoes are the same styles we ladies would be buying for ourselves anyway. I know, I know, you are all thinking “this is impossible”, but I promise (at least to all the Canadians), it’s not impossible.

Happy Shoe shopping, while you are thanking me, your husband will be cursing me (Sorry guys, kinda… well not really). Not only because your closet will be over flowing with shoes, but also because the same doesn’t hold true for men’s and boys shoes (for that I truly am sorry).

I wear size 5 and bought kid’s size 3 boots while my daughter wears the size 12 of the same style, so yes it is an awesome way to save $. Petite girls normally shop at junior section for clothes as well. I got a H&M maxi dress size 13-14, fit perfectly :)

What??? I’m an 8.5 so I may attempt to squeeze..but I think I may just be over the threshold. Will share this with my sis/mom, they’re both 7′s.

Jen – you might be able to… and they might even go up higher for kids… depends on the place :)

Good luck

It’s the same thing w/the NorthFace jackets and football jerseys! My boyfriend bought me a kids large LSU jersey for $60 LESS than the adult small a few years ago! The other day at Dick’s Sporting Goods I found a Northface jacket that was a kids xl for $90 and all of the “adult” sizes were $160! Crazy!

Thanks for the shoe tip. Shoe store, here I come!

Sadly my boat feet won’t benefit from this little tidbit. My oldest is a 4.5/5 in girls though and wears a size 7 shoes too.

Well my feet are too big. But I did get a tip at a sneaker store that women looking for active sneaks should consider mens, I was told they often have more support. I bought a mens Addidas running shoe, was the most comfortable I’ve had to date.

Yeppers. I’m a 5 1/2 and girl’s size 3 fits me great. I bought my new winter boots in the kids’ section while I was getting my son’s size 11s. You’re not going to find heels, but for casual shoes & sandals, boots, sneakers, kids sizes are a steal. (Though my friends do mock me, they have also given me hand-me-downs from their growing girls)

That’s so funny! I doubt I’d fall into that category now. I used to be a 7 1/2-8 before having my first child. Then I was an 8, sometimes 8 1/2 in active shoes. I’m in the third trimester with my second now, so who knows!
I’ll pass that info on to my small footed friends. They are making girls shoes much more trendy these days. You wouldn’t even tell!

WHAT??!!! the last shoe store we were in convinced us that my Emma, my 11 yr old, was now a ladies 6. I guess he was just “upselling” us. I’m going out and trying this, I’m an 8. Oh the savings that will be had…..
