Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Thanks to my new favourite site Pinterest, Princess Valentine and I made personalized Valentine’s for her friends.
I could not find any pink lollipops, so we had to compromise.
I also found putting a sticker on the back helped the sucker stay in place.
Rather than buying Valentine’s this year, get the kidlets to make something special for each of their classmates and friends.
These were very easy to make!
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, you can get your little ones one of Disney’s First Love stories, Lady and the Tramp on Blu-Ray & DVD on February 7th, 2012.
Here’s a Synopsis
A classic love story unfolds in the best Disney tradition as a lovely young pedigreed cocker spaniel named Lady, who lives a pampered life, finds herself falling romantically for Tramp, an amorous street-smart pooch without prospects. Although they have fun together on several dates, including a sentimental spaghetti dinner by moonlight at Tony’s restaurant, their relationship is strained not only by Lady’s loyalty to her human family and their newborn baby, but by Tramp’s devil-may-care attitude that eventually gets Lady in trouble and tossed into the dog pound. However, good-hearted Tramp redeems himself by saving the baby from potential harm and thus wins Lady’s love and the affection of her human family.
It’s amazing how time can change the definition of a word. I almost feel guilty writing the word Tramp on my blog and especially saying out loud to a 3 year old. However, back in 1955, I doubt the connotation was the same as it was today. Despite this minor set back, Princess I Love Puppies and I sat down to watch the movie together.
The story of Lady and the Tramp (Can’t believe I just typed that again), is one that hits very close to home. Our own dog was once the the princess of our home and stole the hearts of everyone. For a full five years our little poodle was the “only child”. Then came along Princess I Need Your Attention All the Time. There were few moments left over for the puppy that was once the centre of our universe. Don’t get me wrong, I still love her doggy breath and she’s a very important part of our life, but she doesn’t get as many handmade dog coats as she used to.
Princess I Want a New Puppy for Christmas and I enjoyed Lady and the Tramp. There were very few “scary” parts, a dog fight and a rat attack, but overall, it’s just a good wholesome story of a couple of young pups that have entirely different lives and fall in love. I had completely forgotten classic songs like “We are Siamese” and “Bella Notte” are from this classic film. And I’m also sure this has defined the way we all eat spaghetti today – who hasn’t tried that famous kiss with their loved one?
Every morning, I hurry out the door to catch my ride to work. Hubster and I carpool, and he’s always rushing me out the door for 7am. I usually grab an apple and zip up my coat at 7:10 while running down the stairs. My alarm goes off at 6, I usually fight waking up for 1/2 an hour, check my email, Facebook and Twitter and then of course Princess Early Bird wakes up so there is little sleeping actually taking place during that precious 1/2 hour.
Once I’m showered and dressed, it’s time to get my makeup on. I’ve recently been asked if the dark circles under my eyes was actually just my mascara, I wish the answer to that question was “yes”, but unfortunately it’s not. Needless to say, I put lots of cover-up and makeup on each and every morning to try to hide the fact that I’m completely exhausted and literally look and feel like a zombie.
While I put my makeup on, Princess I Wanna Be Just Like You also wants to have her face done. So each morning, I spend a few precious minutes putting makeup on her as well. I try my best to use as little of my make up I can, but there always seems to be something left on the brushes. And the worst part.. she wants to put the makeup on by herself. That means my makeup gets ruined by a 3 year old. Which means I can buy new makeup (bonus), but heck, that stuff can be expensive.
So, what’s a Mom to do? I recently came across a super cute idea – fake home made makeup.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- old makeup containers
- different colours of nail polish
Simply remove the old makeup and add in nail polish. It can take a few days to completely dry out.
Now, Princess Dress Up can play with her own makeup (and I hopefully will no longer be late for work).
PS. I didn’t think of this myself, I got it online – somewhere…. someone with way more imagination than I have. The good news is, it’s super easy to do.
Today’s Parent is one of Canada’s largest parenting magazines, I’m sure you’ve all read it in Doctor offices and in the grocery store line up (if you don’t already subscribe and it shows up at your door every month). In November, I received an email from one of the editor’s doing a piece on Mommy Bloggers and they wanted to interview me!
Here we are just a few months later and the issue is out. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up the February issue of Today’s Parent, please go check it out. This is a very exciting experience. While online blogging is taking over main stream media, there is something still very special about printed material. Having those tangible pages in your hand, flipping through the magazine and seeing my name and site in there is amazing.
Thanks Today’s Parent for the interview. It’s an honour to be included in this month’s issue.
As parents, it’s easy to forget yourself, your husband and the two of you as a couple.
We go through the regular everyday routine of life as zombies. I love my husband, he’s my best friend but with a young child taking all our attention, it seems the only thing we say to each other throughout the day is “Did you brush her teeth?” “Let’s go we’re going to be late for gymnastics” “Can you pick up some milk at the store”. None of these regular saying are romantic and rarely remind me of why I married my husband.
Last weekend, The Delta Halifax gave us an amazing opportunity to reconnect as a couple. We had a night out (as in the whole night out) alone with no agenda, other than relaxation and connecting with one another. Oh… this sounds like it’s going to be a juicy post doesn’t it? We’ll I’ll keep some things a secret and you can just let your imaginations run wild… I know we did (ok, ok, too much info I know… I’m joking… or am I?)
Delta set us up in one of the large suites. The first room was huge – way too big for just the two of us, but perfect if you have a group of people or wanted to conduct a meeting. Sure there are plenty of things hubby and I had to discuss, but it didn’t require a 10 person meeting table, laying in a King bed was good enough (wink). So, we quickly called the front desk and asked to be moved to another room that was more our style, and just a few minutes later we had a smaller suite (still 2 rooms) with a large bed, a view and we were happy.
Delta didn’t fall short on ensuring our romantic evening was one to remember and desperately pray for another night alone again shortly. Our evening started with a sensual massage by Eve at Sore Spots (which I happen to have plenty of). Unfortunately, the massage room is only for one person at a time, but the relaxation before our night began was wonderful. We each had 1/2 an hour to get ourselves greased up, our muscles relaxed and had our endorphins stimulated by using the most wonderful essential oils. It was fabulous. I love massages, hubster isn’t overly fussy about them, he finds they hurt. I asked Eve to take it easy on him and to also give him a few massage pointers – so he can practice on me. He enjoyed his session as well, and I’ll soon be interested in seeing what he learned. (I hope he took notes).
We then had dinner, and more dinner and even more dinner. The last time we ate at the Delta Halifax hotel, the restaurant was called the Crown, it has since been renovated and is now called The Harbour City Grill. There were couples (probably on a date night like us), hotel guests and all kinds of people enjoying their evening – the place was packed. The cuisine is mostly local. The chef, Les Stevens, came to visit us personally and made sure to let us know they use local whenever possible, but to say 100% local is nearly impossible. Les was on cloud 9 as he just had served the best and most exciting meal of his career the night before! Needless to say, he was energetic, and talked about making connections with the guests, and that, he did.
Seafood sampler, veal, beef and apple crisp, Hubster and I enjoyed a lavish and delish meal that was absolutely incredible. Each and every guest at the Harbour City Grill gets a special little Hors d’oeuvre as well, it’s something different made especially by the chef. We loved our meal and I actually could not get the last bite of the Parade of Sail (chocolate Cheesecake) into my mouth – I was absolutely stuffed and very happy. I can see why the Harbour City Grill has won both restaurant of the year as well as dessert of the year. I was so excited to eat dinner, I forgot to take pictures of some of our meal before we devoured each course.
After a few hours of a wonderfully romantic evening, it was time to retire to our room to get a full nights sleep – completely uninterrupted. Although the massages and meal were fabulous, sleeping straight for 9 hours without being woken up by Princess Early Bird, Rise and Shine was the highlight of my stay. I valued a full nights sleep more than anything these days – shocking I know, but yes, even more than chocolate cheesecake.
Sure enough, like every morning, the sun rose and it was time for our romantic get away to come to an end. We enjoyed breakfast (eggs benny – my favourite) and then we headed to swim class for Princess Swimmy fish.
Our night out was so fantastic. We were so fortunate to have this special time together. I really have to Thank my Mother for watching Princess Never Sleep so Hubster and I were able to get this special time together. Although I know I love him, it’s nice to have these special moments to rekindle and see it point blank why I love him. I often forget that he can be so much fun, when he’s not wiping poopy bums. But sure enough, he is fun and loving. Thanks Delta for giving us this opportunity. We loved every minute of it.
If a full fledged vacation isn’t in your future, consider a night out in your own town to get away for a day or two. I’m so glad we had the opportunity – Delta, what are your plans for this weekend? Mind if we stop by?
Enjoy making these with the kids – easy and yummy.
