Zellers goes out with a bang, not a whimper

by Mommy on November 2, 2011

Zellers has been an iconic Canadian store for years.  But shortly they will be closing their doors.  Although  you may think they are sad about this event, their latest YouTube video shows anything but tears.  And to makes things even better, this Holiday season they are leaving it up to us – the consumers to make choices on deals and coupons.  Check out the Facebook Page to get in on the deals.

Zellers has really kicked it up a notch this season – and the revamped excitement makes me sad to see them go.  Check out the video to see what I mean.

For your holiday shopping this year – don’t forget about this Canadian store – they wont be here much longer so you will likely find lots of deals!

Lol! I know… Where did this creative, funny side come from??

I wish we had stores like them in the US. This was a really funny video. Sad to see them closing their doors.

Target is going to be coming here! this is the first time I have seen Zellers be so fun!

Pip444 November 3, 2011 at 7:21 am

Target bought them out.

Marjorie November 3, 2011 at 8:20 am

Okay, now where will I buy Gloria Vanderbilt jeans.

Josee November 3, 2011 at 8:29 am

I thought Zellers sold only some stores to Target not all ??????

hippie4ever November 3, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Sad, another store closing. Gloria Kohls sells Gloria Vanderbilt jeans.

hippie4ever November 3, 2011 at 1:14 pm

I mean Marjorie… Kohls sells Gloria Vanderbilt jeans :)

Mommy November 3, 2011 at 9:12 pm

do we have Kohls in Canada?

hippie4ever November 3, 2011 at 10:23 pm

Sorry, I live in the US. I don’t know. :)

Mommy November 5, 2011 at 9:37 pm

I don’t know either – Kohls might only be American. I love shopping there when I visit my southern neighbours :)

I certainly hope Target treats their shoppers better than Zellers does. They refuse coupons on sale items, the prices on the shelves are always wrong, and even the cashiers will tell you most of the employees are rude. Even the cute creative doesn’t change my opinion on the company as a whole (and I once worked there, no less.)

Mommy November 5, 2011 at 9:31 pm

you’d probably know best seeing as you worked there. i have had very little problems with them ever. Their pricing isn’t always comparable to other big box stores, I think that is what did them in.

Each location is different, but I’ve heard even worse horror stories from other locations (like fire escapes in the warehouse area being blocked with boxes!) I think Walmart was the death knell for Zellers, their locations are just too poorly staffed and not as attractive as far as the layout, prices, and product are concerned.

That is pretty sad actually. I shopped at Zellers for years, as did my mother & until this post, I had no idea they were closing. Nor did I know of Target coming to Canada. You truly do learn something new every day…I think Target is a pretty good company is it not? I don”t recall reading anything negative about them. I suppose that everything is in flux and remains changing so I guess it is time for Zellers to depart. Thanks for the heads up!

Mommy November 5, 2011 at 9:33 pm

Sorry to be the bearer or bad news Jeannette :( i think Target is very similar to Zellers – even the colours are close. We may not see much of a change!

I have some fond memories of Zellers growing up – shopping there for school supplies, lunch at their restaurant, etc.. I’m looking forward to Target coming, but will still miss the quaint style of Zellers!

Mommy November 5, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I grew up with Zellers too… it’s kinda sad.

Jeannie November 4, 2011 at 11:20 pm

I love their Alfred Sung line. I will be sorry to see that go.

I think it’s pretty cool that the store would create a You Tube video. Thank you for sharing!
