HEXBUGS Nano – $200 Pack

Number 1 Christmas Gift Idea for kids

My number one pick for Christmas Gifts this year, without a doubt, is HEXBUGS Nano! These little guys are great for kids 3+ and will be just as exciting for girls as it is for boys.

When the package of HEXBUGS arrived, I was a little overwhelmed.  There were instructions to follow, however they were vague.  I thought this contraption must be for Dads to tackle – they get this “stuff”!  However, with no Dad insight (away for work) it was left up to Mom and Grandma to get the set complete.

Once the pieces were out, we just started at it (and here’s the great part….) there is no wrong way up set up the maze.  Pieces fit together easily, I was even able to make the spiral ramp and a second level. When I started building, I had little confidence in myself, however once I got going and noticed how easy it was to design a full track, it was lots of fun.

We created a full circuit without any open spaces, and then let our HEXBUGS go at it.  We placed the go/stop peg in one of the sections and made it a competition to see who’s bug would get there first.  DD was so excited to see her bug make it through the finish line first.  She loved watching the HEXBUGS jiggle their way up, down and around the maze (yes, they can even go up ramps).  The batteries can last a few hours a day non stop, slowly the bugs do lose their juice.   I would suggest getting extra bug food (batteries) as the kids will undoubtedly play with them until they run out of steam (again, and again and again).

We’ve really enjoyed building the track, making it larger and then watching our little bugs zoom around!  I truly believe this is DD’s favorite product for Christmas!  Heck – I even enjoy spending the time playing with her.  The nice part is, she can even play with them by herself, or with friends.  The bugs are different colours so each kid can have their own bug and match as they spin around.

If you have children 3 or older (I’d say right up to 7ish…) HEXBUGS is my number 1 choice for a present this year!  The kids are going to want to collect these.

WW – You know Christmas has arrived when (W linky)

Although December is not yet here and it’s going to be 14 degrees out tomorrow, it is now officially official that Christmas is just around the corner!

I had my very first Festive Special from Swiss Chalet (complete with Lindt chocolates).  This will be one of many trips to Swiss Chalet throughout the season.  The Festive Special is an annual tradition for my family and I and is a sure sign that Christmas will be here before we know it.

We also decorated our Christmas tree this weekend! This too is a sign that Jolly Old St. Nick will be making his annual world wide apperance.  (notice about 15 balls all on one poor branch? This is what happens when you let a 3 year old decorate a tree as she wants)…

If you have a Wordless Wednesday, please link it up and leave a comment below.

What are you family traditions that are sure signs that Christmas is here?

Sonicare EasyClean Electric Toothbrush – Closed

Christmas Gift Idea for Him or Her

I am in love with my electric toothbrush.  I never thought my teeth could ever feel as good as when I leave the dentist, but in the comfort of my own home, but I do – every single day.

There are plenty of electric toothbrushes to chose from, in my own experience I have tested out at least 3 different models.  From my personal experience, the most pricey brushes have been the absolute best.  However, if you are new to electric brushes, any model will do a better job than your own manual brushing.

Although I love electric brushes, I have to pay close attention to ones that have a sensitive setting.  The Philips Sonicare EasyClean does not have a sensitive option, however the toothbrush itself slowly makes its way to the highest setting for those who may not be used to an electric brush. However, just a quick word of advice for those of you (who like me) are a little bit sensitive.  I’d suggest getting a brush with a sensitive setting.

The Sonicare EasyClean comes with a small recharging stand.  I actually really like this feature.  Some other electric brushes have larger stands that take up a good portion of the counter top, the  The Sonicare EasyClean has a very small base leaving room for plenty of other junk cosmetics on your counter top.

Although I am completely in love with electric toothbrushes, they are not for everyone.  I have been on the hunt for an electric brush for my husband since last Christmas and at this point, I have given up on him.  I think electric brushes are just not for him.  He likes the control of brushing his teeth with his own motion and finds the buzzing too strange for his mouth to handle.  Although I can agree that it does take some getting used to, once you start with an electric toothbrush, you will never go back.

An electric toothbrush is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving all year ’round.  It’s a gift that your receiver will use everyday (twice a day), and the enjoyment they will get from having slick, clean teeth will be priceless.

Chuggington – Wooden Railway

Christmas Gift Idea for Girls or Boys

While trains may be seen as the perfect Christmas gift for young boys, there are plenty of girls that enjoy train sets as well… including one very special little lady in our house.

DD has recently had the opportunity to review the newest wooden train set by Chuggington called Chuggington Wooden Railway Calley’s Rescue Set!  This set comes with reversible railroad ties, makes a complete figure 8 and has a train elevator!  How fun is that?  For a 3 year old, the answer is very fun!

DD enjoys setting up her railway mostly in a semi straight line rather then the original figure 8.  She can use all the pieces of the train set and make them go left and right, up and down and all around!  She takes her magnetic Chuggington trains and pushes them around the living room picking up passengers and dropping off cargo along the way!  DD likes to take the head engine and drag all the cars behind with the magnets.

What I love the best about this classic wooden train set is when the men come over to our home, they enjoy playing trains with DD as well!  So, she gets to spend quality time with her uncle and grandpa and they are both doing something they enjoy.  While I may not be able to get the train set back to it’s original form, the men in my life would have no problem.  I think they like the challenge more than she does.

This set is very sturdy, I much prefer the wood over plastic any day – I suppose that also makes it eco-friendly… even better.

Sentimental Christmas Ideas

Christmas Gift Idea for Everyone

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping; and while you’d like to get everyone on your list a meaningful gift, it’s hard on the pocket book.

A number of years ago a special aunt started a mini tradition that has turned out to be very touching each and every year at Christmas. While I’m sure my aunt would have loved to buy me CD’s and gift cards for clothes, with nearly 15 nieces and nephews, it was impossible. What she did do however was much more special and sentimental than any hat, lip balm or New Kids on the Block CD could ever offer.

Each year at Christmas – probably starting around the year 2000, she bought me a darling Christmas tree ornament.

For the past 8 years my husband and I have had our own Christmas tree and each and every year while decorating the tree, I think of my special aunt who was thinking of my future! These ornaments are something I cherish and will have for years to come. They are only small, not expensive, but they are very special, and I truly appreciate my aunts forward thinking Christmas gifts. I would have never expected these little ornaments to mean so much – but they do.

This is a simple, easy and meaningful gift that I truly cherish.
