I get questions like this all the time:
“I was just wondering if you would be able to help me out with my new blog and how to get more followers (or just readers) to it. I would really appreciate the help.”
Today’s question was from Insane Mamacita from Canada and I thought – I should write a post about this! I usually take the time to respond to each and every question with a heart felt effort – cause you know what, I too was once a newbie blogger!
Here are a few tips for a new blogger to build their audience and their traffic!
1. Get friendly
Make friends with other bloggers, comment on other people’s blogs, get to know the people behind the blogs so people can know you! (and remember to leave your link).
2. Tell ‘em who you are
At the bottom of your email, as a signature block, put your blog site, Twitter, Facebook and every other link possible to your site and who you are. This way, each and every single one of your emails will have a link to your new blog.
3. Tweet others as you want to be tweeted (Thanks Raylene, at It’s Ok to Be Weird for that adorable quote)
Get active on Twitter! Tweet, retweet, engage and repeat! I have to admit, I am not the best at keeping up with other people on twitter! This is one area that I am working on – so for anyone reading this saying “practice what you preach” I’m sorry, I’m not perfect! Twitter is a huge tool for getting known, so get your tweet on! For people like me who are not great at keeping up on Twitter, join a Tribe on Triberr (who are your friends) and then you will be giving your bloggy friends some RT love!
4. Patience young grasshopper!
It takes time – a lot of time… A lot of time! Building brands doesnt happen over night, but it will happen. Soon enough traffic will come, through all different forms. The more posts your write, the more your site will rank in Google and the more traffic you will get. The more you are active on Twitter and make other bloggy friends, they will want to know what’s going on in your life and they will visit. But it all takes time – a lot of time!
So, stay at it! Keep your chin up and go forward… There are many blessings that come with blogging, it’s an outlet and it’s fun too!
Thanks for the question! Congrats on your new site and enjoy your new journey.

Hi Lynette!
Thanks for the great tips! I’ve been blogging for over a year now and a lot of what you said makes perfect sense – I’m in a bit of a “reader rut” right now and I think your point about taking time to comment on other people’s blogs and getting to know them on Twitter and chat make a lot of sense!
Hey Maggie,
sorry to hear you are in a rut
If you visit new sites and tweet them the owners will want to know what you are all about! Try it… some people have build their entire following this way. By going beyond just the regular people they speak to!
comment about their post on Twitter too @ them, with a link back… they are sure to answer
I also wonder that, good thing you answered my questions as well. I am glad i am here. Hope you could visit me back. I also add you in my blogroll. Hope you do the favor.
