The Lion King Diamond Edition on DVD & Blu-Ray Giveaway – closed

For the past 2 weeks The Lion King has returned to theaters after nearly 20 years, but in 3D this time.  I had the opportunity to attend the “red carpet” premier in LA at El Capitan theater last month. This epic movie made an impact on my life as a teenager and now here I am as an adult gushing all over it again.  The diamond edition is roaring into stores on October 4th in Blu-Ray & DVD.

Here’s a Synopsis:

An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters and award-winning music sets thestage for “The Lion King”, a Disney classic that follows the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who “just can’t wait to be king.” But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba’s exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of “Hakuna Matata,” Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the “Circle of Life.”

Since DD first heard I was going to LA for the Lion King premire, she has been repeatedly begging to watch the movie.  Thankfully, we had the special opportunity to watch it this evening for family movie night (not sure how much more begging I could have taken).  With popcorn in hand (in the special bowl I took home from El Capitan Theater), the whole family made the trek to the basement to see the movie in our theater like room.

We all enjoyed watching the movie, my husband and I have seen it plenty of times before, but for Geneiveve it was her very first time watching this epic film.  DD bopped along during “Hukuna Matata” and laughed at Timon and Pumbaa.  I think the movie was a touch deep for her, but she did understand when Mufasa passed away and she knew that Uncle Scar was bad.  Great opportunities for parents to talk about these hard subjects.

I am very aware and cautious of anything scary, and since I have seen The Lion King about a zillion times before (and still love it), I knew the exact moments when it was necessary to fast forward to the next scene.  The Elephant graveyard scene, “Be Prepared” and the final fighting scene are probably a little bit too scary for a 3 year old.  But the rest of the movie should be fine.

The Lion King is a hit for kids of all ages – yes adults can still be considered big kids too – I’m one of them.  It is one of the top movies for Disney of all time and has won numerous awards.   On October 4th you can pick up the Diamond edition in stores on Blu-Ray and DVD.

This movie is pure genius!
