Waking up in the morning is something that I wish I could do without! Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up at your own pace and just bounce out of bed after a wonderfully relaxing 8 full hours of uninterrupted sleep? If you have kids, pets, a phone, a job, parents or anything of the sorts, we all know that the 8 hours of sleep is just a fictional thing that we hear such good things about.
The rest of us need something a little more concrete to drag our behinds out of that warm cozy place we call “bed”. We received a rather interesting product from Phillips that helps make waking up a little more natural. The Wake up light is a combination, clock, alarm and a bedside lamp.
This is more than just your ordinary lamp and or alarm clock, it actually slowly increases in brightness to help you have a more natural wake up. I was able to set the alarm clock up by myself in about 8 minutes start to finish. (Because I had to set the time, I knew how long it took me to get all the programing complete). On top of picking my alarm time, I was also able to pick an alarm sound.
With the dreary spring we have been having there are no birds that are going to want to sign when the sun is up ( because there really is nothing but clouds and very little to sign about). But if you like waking up to birds chirping away, you can program the Wake Up Light to have singing birds for your alarm. This is actually the feature that I have been using. If a bird is singing at 5am, I might not be too happy about it, but if I can program a bird to start singing right at the same time that I have to be awake – there is no better way to be awoken.
I must admit there are very few mornings that I am actually woken up by an alarm like this. My morning “sleep in” is usually kiboshed by a hyper 2 year old. But on the days when she is a little bit later at plowing into the bedroom, I did notice the light slowly get brighter and brighter, and then right at 6:30 the birds start and then I know it’s time to get out of bed.
During the winter months when the mornings are very dark I can definitely see the major benefit to the Wake Up Light. It won’t feel as though you are getting up in the middle of the night. The gradual brightness of the lamp makes it feel like the natural sun rising for the day. And once the light is completely up to 20 (yes there are 20 stages of brightness), it is ultra bright, just like morning time.
We also use the lamp in the evenings when winding down for bed, I put it on one of the low settings and will perhaps check email one last time on our iPhones and then with a simple push of a button turn off the light for the night.
We’re loving the Lamp/alarm combo (it is actually on my night stand) it means one less item on my night stand and anything that is dual function works for me. I just have to remember to click on the side button at night and hope that it’s my alarm that is waking me up in the morning and not a jumping bean.
If you are looking for something a little bit more natural to get your hubbies out of bed in the morning to get all those morning chores done, try the wake up lamp, there is something natural about it that makes you more awake at the crack of dawn.
