Happy Canada Day to all my Lovely Canadian Readers! I hope you enjoy the day off with family, friends a nice BBQ and of course some fireworks. To help my family and I celebrate our country just a touch more, Cold Stone Creamery sent us to their store to test out their festive red and white Berry Happy Canada Day Creation!
The delicious hand paddled ice cream includes:
Cake Batter ice cream
DD and MR. My Wee View enjoyed the dessert (I went for something chocolate – surprised?!?, I didn’t think so). They didn’t have the exact ingredients at my local Cold Stone Creamery, but they made something very similar. My husband would suggest getting straight up vanilla ice cream rather than the Cake Batter. But as you can see the Whipped Cream was a huge hit with miss DD. But let’s be real here, anything with ice cream, berries and whip cream is delicious, only the bowl was left at the end of the evening.
There are plenty of other all red and white creations to can enjoy at Stone Cold Creamery for Canada Day and throughout the summer as well, including Strawberry Shortcake Serenade and Raspberry Soirée or of course you can make your own special ice cream creations!
It’s hard to believe that nearly 2 years have gone by since The Baby’s Bundle has been featured on my site. Last time around, I had the opportunity to review one of their luxurious baby minki blankets, which is incredibly soft and silky and just the perfect small size for tiny hands.
The Baby’s Bundle is a company from Arizona that has grown over the past years and now carries a number of new products for Moms, Dads and Babies to enjoy. One such item is great for the summer months. It is called the Cold Seat. I’m sure we have all had one of those moments when we enter the car and it’s way to hot to breath and the seat nearly burns our bums while first sitting down. As an adult, we know to be careful and make sure that our bum is properly covered before taking a seat. Kids on the other hand, are still learning.
To protect your kids precious behinds, there is a very neat product with a great concept. It’s called the Cold Seat. Essentially this is a freezable car seat cover that fits on top of your child’s car or booster seat. When you child takes a seat in the car, their bottom will be welcome with a nice cool seat rather than a scorcher. The seat comes off before the child is buckled in, so there is a bit of pre planning involved, but it seems like a simple thing to do to keep your kids protected for a burn (or just a cranky drive).
Here in Nova Scotia the hot weather is just around the corner. We have had a few days here and there which have been really hot, but so far it’s been fairly mild. However, in places down south (especially the Southern States), each and every day can get over 200 degrees in the car – that’s HOT! In those areas, the Cold Seat would be a must.
Along with the Cold Seat, the Baby’s Bundle has also added Moby Wrap, Snuggin Go, Baby Legs, Hooter Hiders,Bebe au Lait Nursing Covers, Baby Necklaces, ties and one of my favourites – hair clips.
From June 30 – July 15 Shipping for the Cold Seat is absolutely FREE! (perfect for the summer months). Use Coupon Code “weeviewcs”
On May 3rd, Dora the Explorer: It’s Haircut Day! was released on DVD. Dora is very popular in our home, not only does my 2.5 year old “watch” it, she dances, claps and helps her friends get to their ultimate goal.
Here’s a Synopsis:
Dora’s Hair Raising Adventure
Boots really wants to give his mom a picture of himself for her birthday but he’s having a bad hair day. Thankfully, Dora knows who can help, El Peluquero (the barber). Dora and Boots set out on a Hairy Adventure to solve a riddle at the Troll Bridge by matching poodles with cool geometric-shaped haircuts, help Señora Gigante brush some birdies out of her hair, and sing a “corta el pelo” song with El Peluquero as he gives Boots a new haircut.
Happy Birthday, Super Babies
It’s the Twins’ 1st birthday! Abuela’s making Guillermo a banana cake and Isabella a strawberry cake – her favorite! As they wait for the cakes to bake, Dora tells a Super Babies story! Once upon a time, there was a cake-snatching bear who stole everyone’s birthday cake. This was a job for the Super Babies! They bounced across the Bouncy House, caught a ride with Tico through the Piñata Forest, and made it to the Bear’s Castle to get back the birthday cakes and save everyone’s birthday.
Baby Winky Goes Home!
Dora and Boots find a lovable little space creature named Winky. He came to visit with his family, Purple Planet’s Inky, Dinky, Plinky, Flinky and Al, but he got lost! Winky must get back to his family before their spaceship takes off. They set off singing a Spanish hopping song over Hopscotch Bridge, blow giant rocks into bubbles, and float all the way to the top of the Tallest Mountain.
Dora’s Pegaso Adventure
Dora and Boots are playing a game of hide-and-seek with their friends Little Star and some animal constellations: Pegaso (the flying horse), a Baby Bear, a Lion and a Whale. Suddenly, a meteor shower rushes by scaring all of the animals away! The sky goes dark except for Little Star and Pegaso. If the constellations don’t come home to the moon before the sun comes up, they’ll never find their way home! They race against the sun and take a Pegaso ride to find the animal constellations.
I think any young child (girl or boy) will fall in love with Dora and her best friend boots (and in this episode – poodles – which we also have a very strong connection with). Dora is interactive and keeps the kids entertained. I’m so surprised to see my daughter pointing at the TV, and helping all the characters get to their final destination. I don’t recall many shows like this as a child, and as a grown adult I always wondered if kids would actually talk to the characters as if they were really there with them – I will be the first to say “yes, yes they do”.
Not all the episodes included on this DVD are about Hair Cuts (despite the title). However, I’m sure this episode will get you and the kids talking about getting hair cuts (and first hair cuts too). We had a few conversations in our home.
Dora and her friends are pretty much guaranteed to entertain my daughter, and in times of desperate need (those times when I question my sanity), it’s easy to pop this DVD in and have a few minutes to relax and let myself know that it’s not that bad. She enjoys it and so do we.
We have a 3 large bedroom house and all the bedrooms are currently being used. So, what to do we when company comes over? Well, we have an old futon that is placed in our playroom and that is where the guests stay – they are surrounded by play kitchens, baby pianos and dolls. My husband and I are always contemplating if we should keep it, or get a new Modern Bed Sofa.
As much as I love the convince of the old futon, I think it has seen it’s day and shortly we will have to get it replaced. Futons are one of things that were super popular back in the day – because of how convenient they are. Who doesn’t love having a bed and couch together in one? However, they are not the most stylish things (thank goodness ours stays hidden in the basement). Those old styles are a thing of the past and there are plenty of nice Sofa Beds that don’t even have the dual function look.
My husband and I are on the lookout for a new home, and I am sure that the futon will not be coming with us, we will however get another sofa bed that probably looks a little fancier and is a touch more comfortable.
There is one thing that my husband and I did consider however, if a guest bed is too comfortable, your guests may become a permanent resident. I love company so I suppose I would be totally ok with that. Heck what am I saying? My Mother lives with us full time, I am really ok with having permanent residents, especially when they clean!
With the excitement of Cars 2 opening last week there is plenty of buzz online, on TV and in stores about Lighting McQueen and his friends. DD has seen the mini clips on Disney Junior and has been talking about Cars regularly. She has yet to see the original, but the short clips are enough to get this Tomboy excited about the latest Disney movie which raced into theaters on June 24th.
Hasbro has a whole new line of Cars 2 games for kids of all ages to enjoy. We received a number of them for review including, Trouble, Monopoly, Operation, Sliders and Memory! Once receiving the games, it was apparent that some were quite beyond a 2 year old’s comprehension level.
One game that we were able to play is Memory. This is the classic game of memory with a new twist. Along with the game pieces that need to be matched up while upside down, there is also a race track, matching board and 2 cars. The object of the game is to get your car to the end of the race track first by making the most matches. It’s a pretty straightforward game, but with the extra little competition it brings some new excitement to a classic game.
DD and I played this together and she enjoyed the game in many ways. First she liked to match up the game pieces and put them all lined up in the matching board. She was able to place them all into the little slots and then admire her work once it was completed. She also enjoyed zooming the cars along the track. Together we matched the game pieces and had fun together. DD is nearly 3 and although she is good at matching, we still leave the pieces flipped up, making the game a little less stressful and more fun. She is really good at finding the matching pieces.
I remember playing the other games as a child, my favourite was Operation, hearing that loud buzz used to scare me while concentrating so intent on getting the parts out of the body. I’m looking forward to the day that I can play this with my daughter, which I am sure is just around the corner.
Update: My husband tried to take DD to the theater and unfortunately, she wasn’t able to stay more than just a few minutes. I guess we will have to wait for this one to come out on DVD and watch it in our basement – which we enjoy as well.
