Earth day is just around the corner! It’s too bad that we limit only 1 day to really looking at the importance of taking care of the earth, but unfortunately just like most holidays (the birth and death of Jesus, celebrating our veterans, celebrating our country), it is all limited to only 1 day. However, just like Church and the Lions Club, there are ways to celebrate these special days throughout the year and keep their importance fresh in our minds.
Lavish & Lime is a homegrown Canadian company that features plenty of non-toxic and eco-friendly products that help keep this world green. DD and I had the opportunity to test out one of their “green” games – it’s actually made from wood, called the Bug Balance game.
This is a very simple and easy games for the little ones. It’s a simple wooden tree with some branches and the bugs have to balance on the branches. Once the branches get overloaded with bugs, they all fall off. Although the real game involves a dice with colours, DD and I play a modified version. We just take turns putting the bugs on the branches and laugh when they fall off. There is some strategy required as some bugs are bigger than others and will fall off the branches. As she gets older we can play with the dice, but for now we just have fun taking turns with the adorable little wooden ladybugs.
Lavish & Lime also has some products for adults and your home too! A few of the products that are easy to make your home a little more eco-friendly include things like shower curtains. The ones at Lavish & Lime are made with a plastic that are actually made with an environmentally friendly plastic called EVA, it’s made without any chlorine – who would have ever thought there was chlorine in shower curtains. (Apparently this is what cases the off gas smell – those are some major chemicals)
Another really neat product that is eco-friendly and good for your hygiene is compostable floss packs both for adults and kids. I’m not the best at flossing, but I do find that the best way to get a good floss is with these picks – if you haven’t tried the picks before, I highly suggest that you start. It makes flossing super easy (and well since flossing is a bit of a chore, it may as well be an easy chore). As DD gets older I think this will be the best way to get her to floss, I don’t even think I will bother with the traditional strings of floss. The only down side to these little miracles would be that they are a one time use only products and the garbage would really start to add up. So these compostable ones make lots of sense. They become organic soil in just 180 days!
