When travelling south, one would never forget a swimsuit. Just as important but not as high on the “fun” list is sunscreen. I would highly suggest over packing sunscreen because when you are desperate to cover up, $30 a bottle is the price you may have to pay. The other option includes looking like a lobster and being barely able to take a shower or laying down in bed – both outcomes that are not desirable while on vacation (take my word for it, been there – done that – years ago as a younggin’ – lesson learned).
We received a number of products from Hawaiian Tropic to protect us from the sun so we could all enjoy the nice weather without consequence. DD had the Kids Continuous Spray with SPF 60. We drenched her with this spray first thing in the morning and reapplied a few times throughout the day (after swimming or after a few hours of playing on the beach). The spray came out with a fairly strong shoot, so many times we put it into our hands first then rubbed her down – especially for her face. I even put the spray on her head just in case she lost her hat. By the end of the vacation, we had used up nearly all the spray (6 oz), so I would suggest getting 1 bottle per child so you don’t feel that you have to be stingy (sun screen is NOT a place to be frugal). The good news is, she barely got a tan, yet alone a burn. I know how cranky a 30 year old man can be with a burn, I can only imagine how terrible it would be for a 2 year old – thankfully, we were spared!
For the adults, we had the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch SPF 45. It was obvious that the sunscreen worked well because my husband missed a spot on his chest and did end up with a burn (note to hubby, and others – sunscreen only works if you use it all over). Other than this slight mishap, the rest of us remained burn free and happy. We still were able to get a tan, but by the time we left to come back home we weren’t mistaken for one of the locals.
We also receive the After Sun Lotion in Lime Coolada – this got major brownie points from all of us! It smells absolutely fantastically delicious and it feels soft and cool on the skin. My husband was the only one who really needed it, however once the rest of us got a whiff, we all had to use it – it’s that good. Despite being home for nearly 2 weeks, we are still using it just as a regular cream – it smells that nice!
Unless you plan on spending your Sunny vacation inside or completely clothed from head to toe, sunscreen is an absolute must! We were very happy with the products that we received from Hawaiian Tropic, it kept us safe (and smelling nice too).
