Interactive and educational toys are all the buzz this Christmas season. On November 16th, Disney and Home Entertainment Studios are introducing the Mickey Mote – an interactive remote control for kids. This special remote allows kids to participate in mini quizzes while they watch their favourite movies.
How It Works:
The Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes Discovery Mode™, the interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD! All parents have to do is program the remote control – there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select theDiscovery Mode feature on the menu screen. Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched (such as “What color is Goofy’s hat?”) by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device — a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses. Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.
My Husband set up the remote, it took less than 5 minutes, the instructions are very easy to follow. To play with the Mickey Mote, you have to choose the Bonus Features on the main menu. There are 2 options for levels, 1 and 2. We chose level 1 (easy).
While watching Mickey’s Roundup, there are about 10 – 12 opportunities for kids to interact with the show. The DVD completely stops, (similar to what happens when a movie is scratched – but not tow worry, it’s just going into Mickey Mote mode) and kids are asked questions about the show and using the Mickey Mote, they select an answer. If your child picks the wrong answer or doesn’t pick anything at all, the movie still continues.
I don’t think my daughter is quite old enough yet to really know how to use the Mickey Mote. She could point to the TV may times to give the right answer, but didn’t have the skills to pick the right answer via Mickey Mote. As she gets older, and understands more, I’m sure she will really enjoy it.
The Mickey Mote is not like a video game where the kids are constantly playing with the remote, there are only special parts to the movie which are interactive. Also, there is only 1 interactive show on the DVD. If your child does not want to use the Mickey Mote, there are 4 shows in total. Another thing to note is that if you already have Mickey’s Round up at home, it wont work with your Mickey Mote, so you will need to repurchase the DVD over again. The Mickey Mote also does not come with Batteries, so make sure to include them.

Hey this is a great idea to have them break and not get all ZONEd when
watching TV. do they have one for husbands to take a break and get
answer OUR questions? LOL! My kids are too old for this now, but have
grandson who is 4 that would love it AND the titles shown!
This is adorable. Thanks for the info. I think I just found a new item for my grandson for Christmas. I love this.

This is such a wonderful idea.
I sure wish we had something like this when my kids were little.
Great idea, my kids would love this!
This looks like a great toy! I’d like to watch Handy Manny. I’ve never seen it and my 5 year old talks about the show all the time.
