Melissa and Doug Kitchen ($250) – CLOSED

I am completely in love with Melissa and Doug! Their products are all natural (as in wooden), and eco-friendly, but they are just as fun as any other plastic toy out there.  Melissa and Doug really pride themselves in having the best quality toys with no compromising.

I received the Melissa and Doug kitchen for review.  This kitchen is made completely out of wood (with one plastic container for the sink, but I am positive it must be recycled… it’s a Melissa and Doug toy).  This kitchen comes complete with a stove, microwave, fridge and cupboards, all out of wood.

As usual, my husband put this together.  It took him nearly 2 hours!  It’s not difficult to put together, there are just a lot of pieces.  So many in fact, that the kitchen comes in 2 boxes.  When my package arrived, I thought I  was shipped 2  kitchens by accident.  It turns out that the one kitchen comes in 2 boxes, so don’t be alarmed when UPS drops off the boxes!  The instructions were very detailed.  So detailed that it even explains which way to put on the back splash.  If anyone were to put the back splash on backwards, I would say they are pretty stunned (sorry!!).  So be prepared to spend a little bit of time putting this together.  My husband is a seasoned pro at putting things together, so it might take a little bit more time if your not used to putting furniture and other things together.

I’m so impressed with this Melissa and Doug Kitchen (as I am impressed with all Melissa and Doug toys).  It’s the perfect height for toddler and everything is miniature.  My daughter can play make believe kitchen, preparing and cooking food.  I do wish however that the kitchen came with dishes and accessories – so make sure to purchase those separately, because they are not included.  So for now, my daughter is playing make believe.

The kitchen is fairly detailed with elements, a dial for the stove, a turn table for the microwave and you can even seen through the glass to see how well your items are cooking.  The fridge has a “to do list”, a water dispenses (not functional), and some “magnets”.  All the the items are painted on and are not functional, but it does add to the fun of playing with the kitchen to make it more realistic.

Overall, Melissa and Doug has done it again!  Their toys are so realistic and they pay very close attention to detail while keeping the environment in mind.  I am a huge Melissa and Doug fan and would recommend this kitchen to anyone!  Way to go Melissa and Doug!

  7. I love M&D’s play food. We had several of their sets and my kids enjoyed playing with them for hours. I love a company that delivers fun play time where the kids get to use their imaginations!

  8. I’m a fan of the playfood sets–like the Cupcake Design Kit. I also have a few of the M&D puzzles and my daughters love them!

  9. It’s hard to choose one Melissa and Doug toy – I love them all! Last year we bought our daughter the wooden dollhouse, and it was a HUGE hit. The puzzles are also great and we just bought the “cupcake” making set to put away this Christmas.

  19. On the Melissa & Doug website, I don’t know how you could pick just one thing that you love, but I really am in love the dollhouses for my little girl. They look like the one my grandparents built for me when I was a little girl.

  20. What a nice kitchen. I also like the Multi-Activity Table. My older boys had one and it was the best thing ever!
