Playskool – Alphie – CLOSED

My Wee View

I know it seems that computers have only been around for the last 15 years or so, but actually they have been in our homes for a lot longer.  I remember as a child having a computer like learning game.  I loved this hand held device with different cards, each with a new thing to learn.  I don’t remember what it was called, but I spent hours learning with this little computer, it was loads of fun.  But it was nothing like Alphie.

My daughter recently received Alphie by Hasbro for review, and it brought me back to my younger years.  Alphie is just like my old computer, complete with different learning cards.  However, Alphie is a little more high tech, he talks and lights up too (my toy is from the 80’s – so you can imagine that it was pretty basic).

DD just turned 2 in the summer, she is just on the cusp of being able to use Alphie.  There are a few learning cards that are perfect for her right now.  Those include the counting one and the ABC’s.  She can listen to these ones over and over and over and over and over and over,,,,,, again.  What I like about Alphie is that while she is listening to the Alphabet or numbers, Alphie’s face lights up with each letter and number.  So DD can hear and see both the letters and numbers at the same time.  She can already count to 10, but I have noticed that her ABC’s have improved since she started playing with Alphie.  She has known the ABC tune forever, but wasn’t 100% sure about what letters go where.  Some were close, others were not, it’s really cute.  But now, she almost has all her letters in the right spot – what a smarty pants.

There are some cards that are too advanced for her right now, but as she gets older she will grow with Alphie and these advanced cards will be perfect for her.  There are matching games and sound games.  DD knows some of the matching games already.  She can match clothing with each body part.

Although Alphie is suppose to be for ages 3+, I’d say the younger kids can have fun with him as well.  This is a great educational toy that is fun too, my daughter really loves Alphie!
