Anything that makes my life easier gets major brownie points in my books. The latest item that I received for review that makes my life easier (and everyone else in my family) is the new Hoover Floormate.
When I was first asked to review the Floormate, I wasn’t really sure what made it so special. I thought it was just an upright vacuum cleaner. After a little bit of research, I realized that it was a hard surface floor cleaner (could this mean no more getting down on hands and knees to wash the floor?!? I was intrigued). The day the Hoover Floormate arrived, my Mother and I took it out of the package and put it together. There are very few pieces to assemble and it was rather quick to put together. There is one piece (the bristles) that is in the very bottom of the box under some cardboard, so don’t throw out the box before it’s completely assembled.
The Hoover Floormate cleans hard surface floors, in my house, I have tile, hardwood and lino. The Floormate can go from surface to surface without having to change attachments or cleaning solution. To get the Floormate going, I added an ounce or so of cleaning solution (which is included) to a quart of water in the canister. Each amount needed is easily measured off with a line.
The fun part was putting the Hoover Floormate into action. With each forward motion the Floormate releases fresh cleaning solution, and when you pull it back over the same spot it picks up all the dirty water and puts it into another container. This is the best part about the Floormate. I could never understand how a mop and water can clean a floor. It seems to me, once the water is dirty the mop is washing the floor with dirty water. How is a floor suppose to get clean this way? This is what makes the Floormate work so well, it only releases clean water with the pull of a trigger. I was surprised at how much dirt and grime it pulled up from the floor. I used 2 buckets of clean water to clean the dinning room (hardwood) and kitchen floor (tile floor).
With the new Hoover Floormate there is no need to cry over split milk. It’s super easy to take the Floormate out and just wash the little area that is dirty. My Mom loves the new Hoover Floormate. She uses it everyday (yes, not joking – everyday) on the kitchen floor. I love you Mom! (Update – My Mom is now using it 1 – 2 times a week, which seems a little bit more reasonable.)
The Floormate has made cleaning the floors very easy. In fact, we rarely cleaned the hardwood floors before because it was so frustrating getting on our hands and knees to wash it. The important thing to remember when using the Floormate is to slowly pass over the same spot in a forward and back motion. Unlike a regular vacuum where you typically maneuver in a vertical line back and forth, with the Floormate it is important to pass over each spot forward and back so the water that was released is also picked up. Once you get that motion under control, it’s rewarding to watch the Floormate in action, because you can directly see your hard work paying off (to the tune of a jug full of dirty water).
