I loved painting as a child, next to doing gymnastics in the house, painting was one of my favourite past times. I am allergic to dirt, so when playing outside I always had to stay clean, but playing with paint meant I could get dirty and not have to pay for it later with bottles of calamine lotion.
When Noodlehead asked me if my daughter would be interested in reviewing a painting set, I more than jumped on the opportunity, it brought back lots of great memories of getting dirty, being creative (which I have lost as an adult), and having some good old fun.
The Young Picasso Art Kit comes with all the necessary products for a great day of painting. We have had a beautiful summer here in Nova Scotia so far, but there have been a few rainy days – this is when the art kit came in handy with my busy toddler. The kit comes with one very large canvas, 2 small ones, red, blue, yellow, black and white paint, 2 paint brushes and a paint tray. The kit is suppose to be for children ages 4+, but my 2 year old had no problem using the paint and putting it on the canvas, some of the paint did make it onto her highchair tray, but it washed off really easy.
I enjoyed watching my daughter paint her masterpiece, it looks like some of those art pieces that sell for 1000′s of dollars that are abstract. Next time we paint, I will give her less black because I found that it took over the rest of the colours. My daughter really enjoyed herself while painting, and my husband and I enjoyed watching her. It’s just amazing to see how creative and carefree kids are when it comes to that kind of thing. She was using her paintbrushes, and her hands to make just the right mixtures and textures. The acrylic paint can be placed on the canvas pretty thick at some areas giving the art piece a textured look.
The canvas is mounted on a wooden base so it’s ready to go to be displayed on the wall. The painting took no time at all to dry and I am proud to display my daughters first work of art in our home.
I look forward to the next time it rains, so we can spend some more time painting, maybe this time I will join in.
