Since I received my first wall decal last year, I have become a bit of an addict. I have them in quite a few places in my house. I love wall art because it’s easy, inexpensive and can really spruce up your home. There is one thing that makes me a little bit sad about all the wall art in my home. I plan on moving shortly and I won’t be able to bring all the lovely art with me. Not being overly creative, I thought that I was stuck, but after some thought, I figured out how I could use this wall art in my current home and then transfer it to my new home as well.
The fantastic wall art that I had the opportunity to review this time is from Wall Quotes. I received some of the most beautiful wall decals from them, and there is one particularity that was so adorable there is no way I wanted it to stay on the walls for the next owner to use – I want to take it with me! The wall quote says “Wash your hands. Use soap. Mom” This quote is perfect for the bathroom. If I can’t be there in person to remind my child to wash her hands, the next best thing is putting it up on the wall for her to read.
Rather than putting this straight on the wall, I went to Michaels (my favourite craft store) and bought a frame that was long enough to put the quote in. I then searched the store for a background to put the quote on, but was unable to find anything. When I got home, I started thinking -if I put the quote on the glass, I could change the background as I pleased, so there was no real worry if I couldn’t find anything “perfect just yet”.
My husband and I lined things up and did some fancy measuring to ensure the quote was in the center of the frame. It was a little difficult to figure out because we actually had to tape the wall decal to the glass backwards (the side without the cheat squares to line things up perfectly) so that when we took it off the glass the words would be forwards. We were perplexed, but eventually, we figured it out between the two of us. Along the way, trying to get things all straight I ended up cutting off a bit off the end of the word “Mom”, I was disappointed in myself, but the wall art is so forgiving that I can’t even tell where I merged the two peices back together perfectly.
Once we got the decal taped onto the glass, we simply pressed down with the scraping tool that came with the Wall Quotes package. I would suggest to anyone to get this little tool, it really made it easier to scrape the decal. First I scraped to make sure the decal was on the sticky part of the paper, then when I took off the backing I scraped once again to ensure that the decal came off the sticky part of the paper onto the glass. I know this sounds confusing, but it’s so simple. If I can do this – a monkey can do it too. It only took a few minutes to get the decal onto the glass and then we put a white background in the frame and there we had it. Now I am able to display my beautiful wall art in my current house and it can now come with us to our new house too. I just wish I would have though about this for the other wall art that I have in my home.
