Baby Genius – Whack-A-Ball & Old McVinko Musical Farm – CLOSED

I don’t expect that my daughter is going to be part of Mensa or anything, but I do think that she is pretty darn smart at only 21 months old. I speak French to her as does my mother and my husband speaks English. I can already see the positive influence of speaking to her in two languages has had. Although she isn’t talking a whole lot, she does understand both French and English and she does say a few words in both languages. It’s really quite cute. I think it’s very important to give children a push in the right direction to help them in the future in any way possible.  Baby Genius is a brand that is helping children and babies at all stages of development.

For review I received a few products. The first is the Whack-A-Ball. This toy helps children develop dexterity. It did not take my daughter very long for my daughter to have fun with this toy. She was smacking away at the coloured balls and watched as the rolled down the tubes and make the little star twirl around in a circle. The little mallet is pretty hard and she definitely gave the balls some good smacks and laughed about it. I like that all the balls can be stored in the side tube, so they are not left laying around the house between uses. The toy is also pretty thin so it’s easy to store. One thing that I did notice about the Whack-A-Ball is that sometimes things other than the balls got hit with the mallet, so I really had to watch my daughter (and the dog), to make sure the mallet was put in a special place and that it was only used with the Whack-A-Ball.

The second item that we received for review was Old McVinko’s Musical Farm. This toy has the classic old red barn with a few farm animals including a cow, a pig and a hen. Although my daughter really likes this toy, there is no “shut off” for the Old McVinko’s song, so over and over again all you hear is “Old McVinko had a farm EIEIO”.  My husband finds it annoying, but  it doesn’t bother me much.  It shuts off on its own after about 2 minutes.  I really like that my daughter now says “IOIOIO”, I think it’s adorable listening to her sing. She really enjoys playing with the farm and watching Old McVinko go around and around in a circle inside of the barn.   This type of toy encourages creative play and at only 21 months old my daughter has already started “playing” and imagining things with her new farm from Baby Genius.

Baby Genius carries toys, CD’s, DVD’s and Books which all encourage and help babies and toddlers at different stages in their development.  Although I am not sure if there is any proof of such toys helping children, I would rather give it a shot than not at all.
