You’ve Been Sentenced – Closed

I love playing games, any type of games, board games, card games, puzzles, you name it, I find playing games is a great source of entertainment.  I recently received a new game to my collection called You’ve been Sentenced.  I pulled out this game last time we had company over to test it out.  At first, I don’t think the company was overly excited to play a game, but to humor me, they agreed.

The rules of the game are pretty easy, pick 10 cards, and make a sentence with them.  But following the rules isn’t always as easy, this is what makes the game fun.  Trying to make a grammatically correct phrase that makes some sort of sense can be difficult when none of the words are related.  After a few trial rounds, we started to get the hang of it and had some really good laughs at some of the sentences that we came up with.  Some were absolutely brilliant, they made sense and would be a phrase that I would use in everyday language.  Other’s on the other hand, were ridiculous and down right hilarious.

Each phrase (or perceived phrase) can be disputed and put on trial for the jury to give a thumbs up or down.  Thumbs up means the phrase is a good one, and the player gets points, thumbs down means it’s no good.  Each word used has a point value and an approved phrase gets the total amount of points awarded to the player.  The first player to 200 points wins.

This game can be very hard depending on the 10 cards that are received each time.  If you get no joining words, it’s like trying to build a word in Scrabble without a vowel (pretty much impossible).  But that’s what keeps you guessing, you don’t have to use all 10 cards, your sentence can be as short as 2 cards, but the more cards you use, the more points you will get.

Overall, we were pretty surprised at the fun evening we had playing You’ve been Sentenced.  Children young and old can make sentences, so this is a fun, family game that everyone can enjoy.

  1. This game looks like a lot of fun. I think my husband and daughter would also enjoy the Sci-fi and Fantasy add-on deck.

  2. I laughed when I saw their wheel of chore-ture! It’s cute but it also makes me wonder, why should chores that our children should already be doing be turned into a type of punishment?

  3. I checked out their site and read this:

Founded in 2004, we at McNeill Designs have never considered ourselves an ordinary game development firm. In fact, we prefer to title ourselves a “Think Tank,” where creative ideas are allowed to run wild and innovation isn’t a request, but a requirement.

  4. This game looks like a lot of fun! I’m very much a game playing person!
I would enjoy the Gourmet Cuisine add on deck. 🙂

  5. The Twisted Fish game also looks fun. It takes a traditional standby and casts it into the 21st century. Thanks!

  6. I love the Wheel of Chore-ture – I could definitely use this with my grand kids.

  8. The Wheel of Chorture is hillarious! I need one for me — nevermind the kids! What a great way to make housework fun! Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. I love the idea of the Wheel of Chore-ture although it may not be good to associate chores with torture! It would have been great in my college living situation though 🙂

  10. Twisted Fish? What a great idea. That game gets boring for kids after about 3rd grade and now it can last longer! Cute.

  11. Wheel of Chore-ture sounds fun. What a way to get your children
    involved in helping.

  13. The Twisted Fish Game also looked interesting. It seems to be based on the old game of Go Fish, but with a “twist.”

  14. I saw that they also have a game called Wheel of Chore-ture that
I would also like to try out with my kids !

  15. I learned that “You’ve been Sentenced!” is the first game in history to really turn making sentences into a very funny, playable, and challenging game
