Disney has one more princess to add to their list of famous, lovable ladies. Princess and the Frog will be hitting stores on DVD & Blu Ray on March 16th.
Here is a synopsis:
Magic, music and romance are waiting around every corner of the legendary Big Easy as Disney’s newest princess sets out on an exciting adventure through a magical new world. Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) is a beautiful and hardworking young woman determined to fulfil her father’s dream of owning an elegant New Orleans supper club. When Naveen (Bruno Campos), a handsome prince arrives in town looking for romance, the evil Dr. Facilier (Keith David) hatches a nefarious plot and turns Naveen into a frog. A kiss from Tiana should return him to his true form, but in a hilarious twist on the classic story, she is instead transformed into a frog herself! The pair must travel into the heart of the mysterious Louisiana bayou with only a trumpet-playing alligator and a love-struck firefly as guides to find the priestess who can reverse the curse in order to find their “happily ever after.”
I am highly anticipating the opportunity to review this movie. I will be receiving my copy in the mail this week, and will update this post with my thoughts after the show.
In the meantime, take a peek at the trailer!
UPDATE:
I just finished watching the Princess and the Frog (I just got it in the mail today)! This is for sure a Disney classic. There are great characters, great music and some great laughs. However, this movie also stands true to the Disney classics of villains. I would say if you have little ones at home, they may be afraid of the “Shadows Man”. There were many dark scenes. The Shadow Man also reads tarot cards – just as a warning to some of you who would not want your children to see such things.
What I loved most about this movie was the Orleans culture, which included things like gumbo, the bayou, Tabasco sauce and some frog catchers (for the tasty legs of course). My favourite part of the movie was when Ray the Cajun Fire fly passes away – sounds pretty grim, I know, but I truly was surprised with the outcome, it brought a little tear to my eye.
Although this is a “Princess” movie, both girls and boys will like it, as most of the movie is about frogs, and not princesses at all.
