Pregnancy and birth were transformative times for me. Not just emotionally, but physically too. I know through talking with other moms that I am not alone out there when I say that although you can lose the baby weight, the body certainly changes and shifts; getting your pre-baby shape back can be a losing battle. This new redistribution surprised both me and my wardrobe and I began to see a change in the clothes that I needed.
When I received the Momzelle nursing hoody for review, I immediately noticed two important things about my clothing. One, it was just about the only thing I had that fit me properly (more on this in a minute) and two, it was probably the first splash of colour in my otherwise drab winter clothing that I have seen in a long, long time. This ethically made cotton spandex hoody was designed to cover the postpartum body by being longer in the body (read: to cover tummy flab), wider at the hips (read: to accommodate post baby bootie) and designed for a slimming look in mind (to help you feel better when you need it most). At a time in my life when I feel a little less than toned, this nursing hoody is perfect paired with jeans and yoga pants. Because the hoody has an athletic look and feel to it, I have also used it as a layering piece for colder days.
The Momzelle nursing hoody is soft to wear and to touch, which is great for my little one, who loves a good snuggle. It has a front panel that lifts to reveal two breast openings in the underlying material; the holes are generous in size and allow me to undo the snaps on my nursing bra without fighting with the material. Essentially, you can easily breastfeed in public (or at a family event) without exposing yourself or your tummy. The hoody does not look like nursing clothing; I would never have guessed just looking at it that that is what it is. I wash the hoody in cold water and hang it to dry – the colour did not bleed and the fabric feels soft even without fabric softener.
Momzelle offers a great selection of nursing wear, including tank tops, tees, sweaters, turtlenecks (which I have pictured here because they look versatile and beautiful), long sleeved shirts and a dress.
The Momzelle website also features breastfeeding help and advice. This information is made available from some experts in the field. Dr Jack Newman shares his articles and videos, which are full of valuable breastfeeding information.
