Creating flattering lines for the post pregnant body is a mean task.  What was once beautiful and taught now hangs around the knees, waiting to be picked up and wrapped in by tight clothing and bed sheet sized supportive undergarments.  For those of us in the not-so-blessed-body-shape group (otherwise known as flat chested), these supportive garments are… interesting.  Gone, gone, gone are the days of freedom from straps, hooks and underwires.

Comfortable (and stylish) nursing dress from ExpressivaOr are they gone?  The piece of clothing that made me think twice about this was the Nursing Smock Dress I received for review from Expressiva Nursingwear.  With adjustable straps, this dress is supposed to fit just below the knee but for me it at the knee (this happens with many things I wear).  The smocked bodice is very comfortable – the pressure of the smocking and the cups on the inside keep me very well supported.  And guess what – I do NOT have to wear a bra with it!

The smock dress has a piece of material at the bodice that lifts, exposing the material cups.  The cups themselves are each constructed with two panels of fabric that separate to reveal your breast so that you may breastfeed discretely and in style.  Because the top panel lifts from the belly towards your neck, it offers more covering over the top part of the breast while you are feeding.  The dress is made to look like a normal piece of clothing, so you cannot tell it is for nursing (i.e. you can keep it after the babe has weaned).

The smock dress is mostly made of cotton; perfect for the summer.  The damask print is stylish enough on its own for a casual look, or would be very sweet dressed up with black accessories (including a light black shrug or sweater) for a dressier look – great versatility for a very reasonably priced dress.  If you are still trying to lose baby pounds, I think it is important to note that when I wear the dress, the material flows away from my body and you can’t really tell where my hips and butt is in it (yay!).  Definitely a great feel-good piece for when you need it most.  I would also think that this dress would be great when you are hiding a newly pregnant belly and needing to gently support tender breasts.

Expressiva Nursingwear carries a great collection of nursing tops, bras, swimwear, sleepwear, slings, covers, accessories and clothing in plus sizes.
