Applecheeks – CLOSED

by Jennifer on February 17, 2010

The newest diapering kid on the block comes straight out of Canada.  Designed and manufactured in Montreal, Quebec, Applecheeks™ proudly proclaims that their products “are NOT your grandmother’s cloth diapers.”  No kidding.  AppleCheeks™ is a fresh spin on old diapering ideas, with a vibrant colour selection and practicality screaming from every resin snap.

For review, I received an Envelope Cover, 2 bamboo inserts, 1 bamboo liner, a storage sack and 6 bamboo wipes.  The “Raspberry Sorbet” Envelope Cover is the first pocket style diaper we have had; it fit my daughter very well.  The double row of resin snaps and Velcro tummy closure ensured a non-bulky appearance.  The inserts were easy enough to put in the cover and I really like that they were primarily made of a bamboo, a material known for its sustainability, absorbability and anti-bacterial properties.  We did not need to use the liner (yet), but I was happy to have it on hand in case we needed extra protection.  The diapers wash like a dream – I hung them to dry and the microfleece lining the interior of the diaper remained soft.  AppleCheeks™ says you can leave your insert in the diaper when you wash and they will come out on their own while in the washer.  These diapers are available in two sizes, accommodating babies from 7 to 40 pounds (NOTE: this is a unique weight range for cloth diapers).

I used the Storage Sac this past weekend on a trip to the pool.  This chocolate coloured bag is lined for waterproofing, so I decided to really put it to the test.  After our swim, I loaded a used reusable swim diaper, wet baby towel, wet adult towel and both of our swimsuits in the bag and secured it with the double toggle system to close.  No leaks (yippee!).  The Storage Sac is available in two sizes.

Eventhough we really liked these AppleCheeks™ products, our favorite item was the Bamboo Wipes.  They are tough, soft and durable.  You would expect a piece of cloth that is intended for wiping bums to get a little… messy, but we have had no staining.  These wipes are a must have item!

AppleCheeks™ is a ptpa Winner (Parent Tested Parent Approved).  AppleCheeks™ offers MiniTests to those of you who are looking to try their product or needing a much-loved shower gift.  It includes: 1 AppleCheeks™ Envelope Covers in size 1 or size 2 and the colour of your choice, 3 One-size inserts, in either hemp OR bamboo, print care instructions and certified lead-free, reusable and recyclable PVC bag.
