Christmas Gift Idea for Women

It’s not a secret that I can’t dance.  Although I love to dance I think I would give Elaine Benes from Seinfeld a run for her money (ok – I’m not that bad, but you get the picture).   Dancing with the stars is a huge reality TV hit, I can count on a few people each week to let me know what has been happening on the show, without even having to watch it regularly.  When I was given the opportunity to review  Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds and Dancing with the Stars: Dance Body Tone, I couldn’t pass up the chance to get myself back into the groove.

Here is a synopsis of the DVD:

One of the top fitness brands in the industry returns to DVD with two new energetic at home workouts – Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds and Dancing with the Stars: Dance Body Tone.  Timed to coincide with “Dancing with the Stars” ninth season finale on ABC, the program features three of the show’s professional dancers – Kym Johnson, Lacey Schwimmer and Dmitry Chaplin – demonstrating conditioning dance routines inspired by the show including Swing, Jive, Quickstep, Freestyle, Latin and Tango. It’s the most fun you’ll ever have losing weight and toning your body – without a partner!

The DVD’s are well organized into groups and are mostly 15 minute intervals, so if you are terrible at the Tango, not to worry soon enough you will be trying out another dance move.  If you are already a dancer and think  you can get the steps without the aid of Kym, Lacey or Dmitry, you can put the DVD on music only, and get your butt shaking by following the moves of the professionals.  Myself on the other hand, I chose to use the instructions while learning the dance moves.

Like I said, I am not by any means a good dancer, but I really did like learning the cha cha cha, and other Latin dance moves.  The pace is first set slowly and repeated a few times, and gradually more and more moves are added to create a full dance at the end.  In some cases, no matter how hard I tried, some steps just wern’t going to happen, but it was fun trying and my heart was pumping – which is the ultimate goal.  I don’t expect to be a professional tv dancer anytime soon, but I do figure if I continue with the DVD, I will get to the point where I can dance in public and will probably lose a few pounds getting there.  The DVD works different parts of your body, legs, core, bum – all the important parts.

If you are a fan with Dancing with the Stars, you will enjoy putting yourself to the challenge to see what the dancers endure.  It is amazing to see how well they can preform, and gives a true appreciation for how difficult dancing is.
