When I used to think of organic clothing, my mind used to wander to images of burlap sacks sewn into formless shapes, with itchy built right in to the construction. “Cute” was not an adjective that would have come out of my mouth, nor would I have ventured to actually put one of these things on my baby’s delicate skin.

For review, I received a long-sleeved thermal shirt with an owl graphic (pictured here) from Apericots. Both the graphic and the pre-washed shirt are available in a beautiful selection of calming colours. The owl has been applied to the organic cotton fabric using water based eco-friendly inks. Traditional inks and screening is harmful to our environment and our health, containing such hazardous material as phthalates, PCBs and PVC.  After a few washes and just as many wears, the shirt is holding up very well and the graphic hasn’t gotten tacky or lifted from the cotton shirt; it looks as new as the day we got it (minus the small sweet potato stain on the arm).

The first day my daughter wore her shirt, a friend of mine was visiting. DD began lifting her shirt and pulling at the owl graphic; something she hadn’t done before. After several minutes of this, I finally clued in and asked my friend to comment on DD’s new shirt. Once the friend made a big deal out of the owl, my daughter was pretty pleased and was able to get back to her day!
