Although I am not an overly crafty person, I do like to attempt some projects.  A few years back, I made a few doggy jackets for my little toy poodle.  It was quite a simple project, that included a little bit of sewing.  The project was not too complicated, and I must say that I really enjoyed making them.  The satisfaction I received from my dog wearing something that I had created far out weighed the amount of money I spent on screwups unused material.   The best part of making the jackets myself was that I could pick any materials I wanted, and tweak it just enough to fit my dog perfectly.

I would also like to create some outfits for my daughter, although my skills aren’t really up to snuff with making anything too spectacular.    Whimsy Couture, is an Etsy store that is meant  for a person like me – wants to be creative,  but doesn’t quite have the skills.  The patterns at Whimsy Couture are simple and adorable, and include things like knot dresses, skirts, pillow case dresses, pants and more.

The pattern is more than just a simple layout of pieces of material you are suppose to cut out, it is a full tutorial with real pictures that explain in simple language how to create your masterpiece.  The tutorial is a step by step guide that is very detailed so even the most novice sewer would be able to get through a project.  Every single step along the way has a picture, and an explanation below.  This is my type of sewing.

The patterns are very inexpensive, especially for the beautiful outfits you will be creating.  I have seen many of these same types of outfits being sold for 5 times more than the cost of 1 pattern.  So, with the purchase of one pattern, you could be saving yourself a lot of money and make an outfit just the way you want to.  Also with patterns you can usually go a few sizes up or down, so as your child grows, you can simply make a new outfit using the same pattern – once again saving you money.

So, here is my favourite part of Whimsy Couture, Denise, the creative designer behind all the patterns will also make something for you – if you ask REALLY REALLY nicely!  This is what she did for us, as much as I want to make an outfit, I simply do not have the time – that’s what happens when you have a toddler, full-time job, and a blog.  She made Genevieve a beautiful blue and green skirt with polka dots, along with a matching Alpha Tee.  The best part was, that Denise sent me a cut out “G” appliqué, and I could put it on any t-shirt or long sleeve shirt I want to.  All it takes is a little press of the iron, sewing around the applique and it will stick to anything. Despite not “making” the outfit, I can take some credit.

whimsyWhimsy Couture has a huge assortment of patterns to choose from, and they are very very affordable (and adorable).
